to suggest that AIBU should be renamed 'Anyone up for a fracas?'

Or mêlée, or brouhaha, or contretemps, depending on taste.

Fracas should only ever be sprayed on your bush in an upmarket department store, before meeting a (married) sexy polo player for drinks....

derxa · 11/03/2015 16:56

marshy You're right. There are some genuinely funny posts. I'm too much of a coward to report anything or start fights with people...for the moment.
BTW the Scottish word for fracas is stramash

Carpetcrawler · 11/03/2015 17:06

Why are you scared to report? Or challange on the thread?

Nothing will change if you don't do anything about what you think are nasty posts.

Making veiled comments about other posters is not exactly pleasant either.

Marshy · 11/03/2015 17:11

The posters you are reporting won't know you are doing that unless you choose to tell them and there is absolutely no reason why you should. MNHQ will deal with it from there any will email you with the outcome which may be that they think the post or thread should stand.

Marshy · 11/03/2015 17:15

I'm not suggesting you should start fights btw. It's against talk guidelines apart from being unpleasant. If you do it may get reported and deleted, quite rightly.

assessment · 11/03/2015 18:00

I don't know why on earth you'd be scared to report someone on here.

I've reported threads where a load of posters were having a high old time. I thought it was bullying and reported, and the "fun" stopped there.

Mnhq obviously agreed with me so why would I feel bad?

Mintyy · 11/03/2015 21:06

If anyone is still interested have a look at this thread from 9 months ago link. There have been many more before that but as a result of that particular one HQ put a stickied thread up asking Mnetters what they wanted to do about AIBU. An awful lot of people replied. Nothing has changed.

Whatever you do, do not imagine that HQ are interested in the views of the average humble Mumsnetter. They couldn't give a shite. Don't bother giving them feedback, don't bother engaging at all. They are not listening.

BallsforEarrings · 11/03/2015 22:22

All things considered here - I agree with prettyfeet

And I am also up for a kerfuffle! Grin

ManOfSpiel · 11/03/2015 22:38

Sorry OP but a terribly (albeit unforseen) poor choice of wording so YABU.

You should know from the many recent threads that 'fracas' = punch in the face. Therefore you've no chance of renaming AIBU Wink

SaucyJack · 11/03/2015 23:36

Why did you say that ManOfSpiel?

I genuinely thought the OP was about Clarkson. Is it not?

ManOfSpiel · 12/03/2015 06:05

SaucyJack

Maybe you're right and I've been a complete do of us but thought the op was posted before the news of JC came out.

I hold my head in shame lol

TheFirstOfHerName · 12/03/2015 07:30

I started the thread after the news about Clarkson was made public. If he did "aim a punch" at the producer, then that isn't funny (because violence isn't) but (along with half the internet) I was amused at the spokesperson's choice of words.

OP posts:
antumbra · 12/03/2015 07:40

I thought the idae of the thread was funny OP.

Some people are reading far too much into it.

SaucyJack · 12/03/2015 08:26

Yeah it was all getting a bit Kafkaesque for a minute. Carry on as you were OP Smile

whothehellknows · 12/03/2015 09:04

This is one of the stranger threads I've read on mumsnet. That's saying something.

TheFirstOfHerName · 12/03/2015 09:51

This is one of the stranger threads I've read on mumsnet.

I aim to please. Grin

PrettyFeet · 12/03/2015 11:56

Hi everyone, just been having a good catch-up on the thread and it's heartening to think I am not alone in my opinion. I posted purely from the point of reading the title of the thread. I didnt even have a clue that Jeremy Clarkson had been at it again Grin

Apologies to the OP if my "rant" was misplaced, I just needed to "get it out there".

TheFirstOfHerName · 12/03/2015 12:57

This is one of the stranger threads I've read on mumsnet.

I would like to nominate the thread where the OP's DH might or might not have been bitten by a zombie, and then the OP went missing, presumably having been turned into the undead.

PausingFlatly · 12/03/2015 13:02

YABU to have a good rant, PrettyFeet! Grin

Hope today's a bit better. Thanks

@Mintyy

If anyone is still interested have a look at this thread from 9 months ago link. There have been many more before that but as a result of that particular one HQ put a stickied thread up asking Mnetters what they wanted to do about AIBU. An awful lot of people replied. Nothing has changed.

We'd have to disagree with you there Mintyy. We are interested, which is why we encourage folks to report as much as possible, about anything that concerns them. After the thread you're referring to, we asked people to report AIBU meanies. We checked out posters who seemed to be using AIBU purely to be pointlessly unpleasant, and took further action as necessary, which included banning.

But that after a flurry of reports for a few months it dropped off; there's been no let-up in our willingness to deal with unpleasant folk in AIBU but we do need users to tell us about it so that we can take action.

PausingFlatly · 12/03/2015 18:07

I definitely saw a difference after that flurry, Kate.

And have felt more empowered to tell people to wind it in, because you asked us to do so.

Still some wankers about, though, or people having a snippy day.

Marshy · 12/03/2015 20:08

As I said upthread, I have found the report button to be very effective

WeirdCatLady · 12/03/2015 21:50

FFS

If someone says something horrible then click on Report.
If someone is spamming then click on Report.
If you think someone has overstepped the mark...click on Report.
If you suspect a troll....yup, you guessed it.
It's not rocket science.

I've never known MNHQ NOT investigate when someone raises an issue.

There is no point bitching on threads about 'Ooohhh people are cruel' etc etc. If you don't highlight it to MNHQ how the fuck are they supposed to know?

MN has a certain style to it. If you don't like it, then bugger off to another site that is more to your liking. The internet is vast and there are many many different sites out their to explore.

I've never found MN to be anything other than a supportive, funny place to have a discussion (and occasional bunfight).

WeirdCatLady · 12/03/2015 21:53

'out there' obviously, not 'out their'

Fucking ipad!
