To think that if I never hear Wind the fecking Bobbin Up again it'll be too soon!

I find that song whiny and beyond annoying but they sing it at every singalong I've ever been to with DS! Are there any other kids songs that irritate MNetters?

Oh no, I love sleeping bunnies - ds only learnt to jump about 2 months ago, so he does this one about 100 times a day - changed to sleeping pirates/firemen/sausages etc

toptomatoes · 07/03/2015 19:54

Wind the bobbin up was requested as a lullaby by DD today; it is very hard to make it restful when she is enthusiastically doing the actions.

The Grand Old Duke of York is the killer at rhyme time; there's far too much competitive chucking kids in the air. It will all end in tears one day.

Rightokthen · 07/03/2015 19:56

I hate it too!
It's the worst of them all.

My favourite is "hop little bunnies hop hop hop " or whatever is called.

My 2 yo prefers sam smith and taylor swift Sad

Rightokthen · 07/03/2015 19:57

Love that dinosaur version!

Bluestocking · 07/03/2015 19:59

Exactly, ZoomZoom, I always wanted to ruin the moment by shouting out "yes, they're in the final stages of death by myxomatosis!"

MimsyBorogroves · 07/03/2015 20:00

I privately changed the "they're so still, are they ill" line in Sleepy Bunnies to "still in bed, are they dead"

Much more fun.

findingherfeet · 07/03/2015 20:00

I'm actually a bit excited about the dinosaur version.

MimsyBorogroves · 07/03/2015 20:00

Great minds, Bluestocking Smile

GlitzAndGigglesx · 07/03/2015 20:02

CLAP CLAP CLAP!

Dd was singing Mary had a little lamb and I couldn't help but interrupt and say how tasty the lamb was on her 18th go at it

BrianButterfield · 07/03/2015 20:02

I hate it too, and both my DC have loved it as babies.

One day at work someone mentioned a dolly for some reason, and me and the other mum of two under-4 both started singing Miss Polly had a Dolly in unison. We got quite a long way into it before we realised it was not quite the thing to be doing. But you can't stop before rat-a-tat-tat, that's the best bit!

LaundryFairy · 07/03/2015 20:05

Oh, ZoomZoom, I hate those wretched bunnies too! In my mind I was always singing:

'They're so still...
They're road kill!
Splat little bunnies, splat splat splat!'

Disclaimer: I actually am quite fond of real rabbits, just can't stand this song!

ZoomZoomToTheMoon · 07/03/2015 20:08

I love Miss Polly had a Dolly, it's a brilliantly dark work of satirical genius.

"He wrote on a paper for a pill pill pill
'I'll be back in the morning with my bill bill bill' "

Bet it was homeopathic.

ZoomZoomToTheMoon · 07/03/2015 20:10

I love all the sleeping bunny horror versions! :o

You know what else I used to snurk at

"My beard is black, there's soot in my sack"

Bluestocking · 07/03/2015 20:13

ZoomZoom, are you me? (An MN phrase I never thought I'd use.)
My beard is black, there's soot in my sack - the achoo, achoo is obviously a rather strange ejaculatory exclamation.

TheSpottedZebra · 07/03/2015 20:16

I'm a right old mardy cow, but I hate ALL of these shitting songs. The stupid, twee lyrics make me angry.

WineIsMyMainVice · 07/03/2015 20:21

Yesterday I had an ear worm - Humpty blinking Dumpty!!! It droveme mad!!!

ZoomZoomToTheMoon · 07/03/2015 20:24

Bluestocking :o I just wish there had been a like-minded soul at these events (or maybe they were there, but I wish I'd known) to catch the eye of at those moments.

Tanith · 07/03/2015 20:35

Spare a thought for us childminders!

I run a playgroup. I have been singing these songs for 15 years!

One of our group has been childminding since the mid 60s - just think how many times she's had to sing Old MacDonald and the rest! ShockShock

ninetynineonehundred · 07/03/2015 20:43

Op yabvu to single one song out. They are all torture

I like five little monkeys but agree, wind bobbin up is cumbersome and heavy to sing, but it is good for them with action, I also HATE wheels on bus and head shoulders knees and toes.

I like, grand old duke, little peter rabit had a fly, sleeping bunnies, 3 little men , row row.

Flipchart · 07/03/2015 20:56

I have managed to get my lads to nearly 19 and 16 without EVER singing wind the bobbin, hockey cokey, wheels on the bus, I'm a little teapot.

In fact I'd only heard of Wind the bobbin two years ago when I started to work with young children. Never heard of it before then!

MissMogwi · 07/03/2015 20:57

I miss Wind The Bobbin Up and other mums n tots favourites like Wheels on the Bus.

I have blocked out the memories of toddler tantrums and sleepless nights now my two are hormonal divas.

Maybe one day I'll look back on pre/teenage strops with fond memories too.

BeyondRepair · 07/03/2015 20:58

sleeping bunnies is so cute, watching them all akwardly getting down, closing little eyes, they love it, how can anyone not like it. Sad

frankie001 · 07/03/2015 21:00

Great, I don't even have kids and now have Wind the Bobbin Up going round my head. Total ear worm.
