To not go and see the film my mums chosen as her birthday gift?

It's my mums birthday and she has asked for us to have a meal out and go to the cinema as her birthday gift. So far so good. Except she has chosen to see The Second Marigold Hotel, which I really don't want to see. And I haven't even seen the first one (and nor do I want to!).

AIBU to suggest alternative or as it's her birthday her choice do I just go along and have a kip?

Go along and have a kip you miserable so and so. You might find you like the film. Light hearted nonsense.

knuckle dragging twats Hmm

I didn't really enjoy the first marigold film - thought it was just a bit flimsy and not a lot going on to maintain interest - but I think the above description is a bit harsh

krusty you never know you might enjoy it Grin

Marshy that was Racing Stripes. DS1 had the video and looooved it.

Sallygoroundthemoon · 06/03/2015 16:57

You are being a selfish twat. It's your mum's birthday fgs. Plus the first Marigold Hotel film was lovely Smile.

Marshy · 06/03/2015 17:01

Yep that was the one - sodding racing stripes. How lucky was I that she never had the video. You have my sympathies notquite

Nanny0gg · 06/03/2015 17:02

The first one was better, this one is still enjoyable.

It's nice to come out from a film smiling sometimes.

chimchimini · 06/03/2015 17:05

Saw the first film and it was really good. Take some malteasers, what's not to like!

AmyElliotDunne · 06/03/2015 17:16

Sounds like a perfect film choice for your mum, lots of interesting and fun older characters she can relate to my DP is a 36 year old man and he loved it Blush

If you have time (presuming it's not tonight!) why not watch the first one before you go, just so you know who everyone is.

Marshy · 06/03/2015 17:17

I agree nanny It's been a real sob fest at the cinema lately. What with Testament of Youth, Theory of Everything and Imitation Game, my tissues are all used up.

I caught the 1st marigold film on tv recently and thought I'd watch it before going to see the second one but was a bit underwhelmed. Probably still go though. Might make dd come with me Grin

I think you should def go op - it'll be fine.

Or what about American Sniper? I enjoyed that

Allalonenow · 06/03/2015 17:25

It will mean so much to your Mum, sharing a treat with her DD, and you will probably enjoy it too.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 06/03/2015 17:38

Well done for taking it on the chin OP Grin

The first film really was okay, it's quite a sweet, nice film. Maybe watch the first one before going.
