No nudity policy

At the swimming pool today I noticed a sign in the ladies changing room/showers stating that they had received "feedback" from customers concerned about nudity in the presence of children and so they now have a policy of no nudity in the changing rooms during lessons and minimal nudity at other times.

Now I'm not usually one to strip off in communal areas and generally feel more comfortable in a cubicle so I don't feel personally attacked but WIBU to provide my own feedback that I am happy for whatever level of nudity people require to change after swimming to continue and that I am happy for my children to witness naked women in this environment where applicable.

I didn't say anything but it has annoyed me all day. I have no idea if a similar policy is in force in the mens changing room.

I get naked after swimming. How else do you get yourself properly dry? It's just tits and a fanny. Who cares?

JohnCusacksWife · 05/03/2015 22:48

Rockin, so if a male stranger was showering naked in front of you and your daughter would you be ok with that?

ThatBloodyWoman · 05/03/2015 22:50

When on the beach, who gets naked and has a long hot shower before strolling back to their towel and drying off?

Gileswithachainsaw · 05/03/2015 22:50

I'm currently picturing that Mr bean scene where he's on a deserted beach but there's another man there. Instead of a quick strip he puts trunks on over trousers then struggles to take trousers off and pull.through.

guy turns out to be blind but most people wouldn't stare anyway or give a toss if a penis was exposed for 5 seconds whilst changing

Janethegirl · 05/03/2015 22:53

I prefer to shower naked. How can you get the chlorine off your skin if you shower in your cossie? Provide cubicles or suffer naked people in full view Grin
Note I have never used the hair dryer for hair not on my head Grin

JohnCusacksWife · 05/03/2015 22:55

Have to say I have never seen anyone, ever, shower naked in communal showers after swimming. And I swam competitively for years and trained 5 times a week so I've done a LOT of post-swimming showering. Perhaps I've just led a sheltered life....

Janethegirl · 05/03/2015 22:56

Johncusackswife...what man is likely to be in a female change with me and dd???

If DH had dd in a male change, she'd be too young to care!!

Janethegirl · 05/03/2015 22:58

Showers at local pool are totally open and most women strip off before showering.
No idea what happens in male showers though Grin

JohnCusacksWife · 05/03/2015 22:59

Jane, well, if you're in the female changing room I'd hope no man would be in there! But a previous poster was saying that it was ok to shower naked in the family (I.e. mixed) changing room and I just think that's a bit inappropriate.

JohnCusacksWife · 05/03/2015 23:00

Jane, your pool must be v different from ours! We used to have separate male and female changing and no one ever showered naked in the female showers. Now they are all communal and (thankfully) no one feels the need to strip off.

Janethegirl · 05/03/2015 23:04

I use 2 separate pools in very different areas and the vast majority of women shower naked.
What did surprise me was in a pool in Scotland they actually pranced around without a towel and the hair dryer was in use a lot of the time (for areas not normally dried !!)

itsbetterthanabox · 05/03/2015 23:09

Why is it not ok to be naked in mixed showers? It's fine if you don't want to take anything off but don't judge those that do.

itsbetterthanabox · 05/03/2015 23:11

Rockinrobin is obviously a bit confused on the meaning of political correctness. You don't need to be rude to her about that!

RandomNPC · 05/03/2015 23:12

No idea what happens in male showers though

As I said earlier, the helicopter. Three ranks deep, in line dancing formation. Synchronised.

No nudity policy
DinosaursStillExist · 05/03/2015 23:12

it's the showers. people have bodies. we wash bodies in showers. ffs getting naked for a quick shower does not equate to being a sexual predator like some of you seem to think. of you don't want to see other people's bodies then don't look!

EBearhug · 05/03/2015 23:15

My local pool has showers on the poolside. I wasn't used to this before - had had single sex showers in single sex changing rooms - and absent-mindedly started stripping off to shower... Realised before I was totally nude though.

On the beach, I reckon people are far less likely to notice a couple of seconds of nudity than if you make a massive fuss about having a towel round and trying to get dressed with just one hand spare while you try and keep the towel covering you with the other. Mind you, I usually go down at the end of the day for a swim rather than when it's really, really busy and there's no space.

EBearhug · 05/03/2015 23:16

the helicopter. Three ranks deep, in line dancing formation. Synchronised.

Now, that, I would watch. Just one bloke on his own, I'll probably just laugh, but if it's well synchronised, I might be impressed. Although I probably would still laugh as well.

Janethegirl · 05/03/2015 23:17

I really don't care if I'm naked in mixed showers.
Equally if I had Ds or dd with me it wouldn't matter. It's only naked bodies getting the chlorine off their skin.
You can't go through life thinking everyone is a pervertGrin

ouryve · 05/03/2015 23:22

The idea of no nudity in a changing room is making my tired mind boggle.

I remember visiting Germany in my tens in the 80s and getting quite a shock. I visited a lido as the concert band I was in was playing there. No one used the changing rooms. Everyone, of whatever age, just changed by the pool side!

The band we were doing the exchange with all changed into their uniforms on the coach together. We did girls then boys.

Quite the culture shock!

BigChocFrenzy · 05/03/2015 23:26

All the gyms I know have (single sex) communal changing rooms and showers, where nudity is expected - you'd look odd trying to retain your modesty under a towel Hmm Wink
However, they are all privately run and don't allow kids under 16.
I think anywhere in the UK that allows DCs is running scared.

In Germany and Scandinavia, I've been in mixed saunas where typically men, women and kids are naked together, then step under a shower naked and dive naked into the pool. Noone blushes or gives a damn.
The gyms there are like ours - single sex changing rooms and no kids.

JohnCusacksWife · 05/03/2015 23:27

Fair enough, perhaps I'm a prude. I just don't feel comfortable being naked around men I don't sleep with!

I just don't understand the concept of only being naked with my DH.
If I'm swimming and want to shower I just do it irrespective of it's it's mixed or single sex.
However one pool I go to occasionally, some women leave in dressing gowns and flipflops and go home to shower Grin

JohnCusacksWife · 05/03/2015 23:33

Sould just say I have no problem with nudity in a family context. We all wander about naked between bedroom and bathroom, share the bath or shower and have no locked on the bathroom door etc. but I draw the line at being naked with strange men. I mean last time we went swimming I met my boss. Can you imagine Shock!!

BigChocFrenzy · 05/03/2015 23:34

I've been to public swimming pools many times in Germany, Sweden, France. Nudity is normal in the changing room and there were DCs, so again adults and kids naked. There were kids in the mens changing rooms too.
Totally different attitudes.
