to ask you about vapeing

So, I have tried to give up smoking numerous times.
Succeeded last year on patches and mouth spray. However, I became very depressed. Thought about smoking all the time and eventually gave in.
My neighbour (a heavy smoker) has started vapeing (sp?).
He raves about it.
But would I be replacing one bad habit with another?
I want to eventually quit, do you think this would help?
My friend used e cigarettes and seemed to 'smoke' more as she hcould do it inside.
I would be really grateful for your opinions, thank you.

I have vaped for two years now. I went from smoking 40 a day to nothing a day as soon as I picked it up and much prefer vaping.

I love it. I have no plans of every quitting it either. I don't need the nicotine anymore but I sometimes buy juice with it in for the throat hit.

You should really check out the stop smoking board as there is loads of information out there.

Don't bother with using e-cigs that look like ciggies they are crap. You want one you can pre-fill with juice yourself.

I am now using a MVP200w but you can get good starter kits online.

timeforacheckup · 27/02/2015 17:49

Dh has been vaping for a fortnight now from a 30 a day habit and he raves about it. He is working his way down the nicotine levels and says he feels free.

wlrg14 · 27/02/2015 17:50

I started vaping just over a month ago and haven't smoked since! Not even a hint of a craving Grin it does all seem confusing to start with but if you have a local shop they are normally incredibly helpful in helping you find the right set up, I started with a corner shop cheapie (truvape) and just bought the kangertech evod started kit as the truvape broke.
Have reduced my nicotine intake from 18mg juice to 6mg the next is 0mg... Good luck if you decide to take the dive! Smile

TheFecklessFairy · 27/02/2015 17:55

I stopped 2 1/2 years ago - I vape. But not a lot (usually a bit when I am reading the news and having my first cuppa). After that I don't usually bother. I rolled my own for 45 years - I wouldn't be without my E-Cig for all the world. I've saved a fortune, can now breath, have stopped coughing and all round feel better. Good luck with it benefoots.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 27/02/2015 17:59

I use mine loads :) I prefer it to smoking, no smell, no tar, no constant hand washing and changing clothes, no going outside in the cold/rain. Its great!

winsomewitch · 27/02/2015 18:05

I gave up my disgusting 27 year habit just over 2 years ago thanks to Vaping.

Dh finally gave up 6 weeks ago thanks to his MPV E cig and creamy custard E liquid!

What more can i say Smile

whothehellknows · 27/02/2015 18:05

I quit smoking 10 years ago, but a couple of weeks ago I got a vaping kit (non nicotine) just because I miss the hand action when I'm driving. It's nice and doesn't make me crave cigarettes at all.

Optimist1 · 27/02/2015 18:07

I agree with U2 that the cig-a-likes are useless. I started vaping 18 months ago with a view to reducing the level of nicotine in the juice and eventually weaning myself off. I really enjoy it, though, and haven't reduced the strength. As Baby says, the lack of smell etc is brilliant, I haven't had a cough all winter and the bank balance is significantly healthier too.

Would suggest you all research the health implications of vaping, especially you long termers.

FarFromAnyRoad · 27/02/2015 18:22

35 year habit stopped dead in it's tracks here OP. Stone dead. I vaped with highest strength and slowly reduced to zero nicotine and then didn't vape any more. Now I do when in situations that I might find tricky - when I very rarely go out drinking or when on holiday - quick vape takes care of any residual cravings. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

CrazyCatLady13 · 27/02/2015 18:27

4 months off roll ups now thanks to vaping. My chest is clear now, my sinuses are better and I just feel much better generally. I smoked both side by side for a few days, then just stopped the roll ups and never looked back!

benefoots · 27/02/2015 18:33

Thank you all so much!
I used to find it strange when people said that they had stopped smoking but vaped.
Associated vaping with the same as smoking I suppose
I do worry that there are other hidden dangers in vaping, but I guess they can't be as bad as cigarettes?
I have a shop near me and think I will pop in and give it a try.
Thanks everyone

I have. I found nothing to worry me.

PrincessPilolevuofTONGA · 27/02/2015 18:42

I have researched. There's been a huge amount of investigation into vaping and nothing has yet been discovered that would discourage me

I think it's fantastic. I'd advise finding your local shop and getting a lesson. It's baffling to start with and sort of high maintenance but you'll soon get the hang of could and tanks and batteries

I've not had a cigarette for over a year after relapsing after having given up for 6 years. All of which I spent missing cigarettes. Now I'm so over them, they stink and are vile

Didn't realise that there was a stop smoking thread Blush.
I'm really torn in trying the patches again or trying vapeing.
Like I said I don't want to swap one habit with another.
However, I think the thing that I missed most was the hand to mouth action, so maybe vapeing is the way to go.
Did anyone else feel like crap when they gave up? Everyone said I would feel better and have tons of energy but I just felt awful!

Dragonfly71 · 27/02/2015 19:05

My husband and I have been vaping for about a month now and love it. We have gone down from 18mg to 11mg strength and will be on 6mg soon. It is a practically painless way of weaning ourselves off the nicotine. I love it because I still get my fix but don't stink/ cough/ feel guilty. I have given up smoking before but this time I actually feel it will work because I can vape if I get stressed rather than go back to the fags. I don't worry about swapping one habit for another because vaping will hopefully just be a transition habit iyswim.
The stop smoking thread has loads of vapers who will give you more info.
Good luck! And your energy will return I promise, I feel alot better already.

MeganChips · 27/02/2015 19:14

I have quit smoking so many times in the past and never stuck to it (except while pregnant but it's a bit of a drastic solution), and yes, I felt crap too.

I felt sluggish, tired, depressed and hellishly constipated.

I lurked on the vaping Vipers thread for ages and they really inspired me and are hugely helpful. I have now been vaping only for 8 weeks and really enjoy it. I've had none of the side effects.

Corygal · 27/02/2015 19:20

Where o where does one get the e-liquid with nicotine in it? I'm in Clapham and cant find it anywhere.

Allbymyselfagain · 27/02/2015 19:21

Can I hijack and ask a quick question? I have a vape (I think it's a ego) but I find it leaks a lot unless im very careful with it, obviously that not great when throwing it in my bag. Does anyone else have this problem or should I get a different system?

ginmakesitallok · 27/02/2015 19:30

I went from 30 a day to none, 19 months ago. Vaping is the best thing that's ever happened to me in terms of improvement to my health.

ginmakesitallok · 27/02/2015 19:33

Corygal, I mostly get mine on line, but loads of shops do it here. There are specialist vape shops, home bargains, the co op, virtually every corner shop. Where are you?

All by myself, an ego is the battery. Cheaper clearos can leak, I use a smok aro from nature vape, it never leaks.

MeganChips · 27/02/2015 19:35

You need to find a vape shop for the e-liquid, or order them online. There are tons of sites, just google e-liquid.
