We are discussing these on another thread and I blithely stated that most people need medical intervention for them. Others have disputed my opinion how very dare they

So, how did your wisdom teeth get dealt with, if at all?

All removed together, off work for over two weeks because of a problem during the surgery. My siblings don't have any at all- lucky buggers.

Most people I know haven't needed them removed, or have only needed one of two and not been put under but a large amount have been on metradiazole at some point due to abscess/infection in them.

I had an impacted one years ago that required removing as there was a gap where an ulcer could've grown etc. Had to go to dental hospital and when anaesthetic wore off it was worst pain ever I took loads of painkillers barely ate for next week got infection about 2 weeks later. Luckily the others were fine apart from niggly pain as a teen.

To anyone re the pain or the poster re tongue nerve damage this is 2nd hand from my mum. She's had tons of dental work (Harley St and now nhs) where they also advised of problems re nerve damage but she bit the bullet (apt choice of words) and only now in her early 70s does she rarely get problems!

Re the pain of op I'd Google advice. I never had any had stitches etc and bone removed and thought it'd be a piece of cake. No the pain was in my top 2 of worst ever pain and as someone else told me no painkillers would touch the sides of it! Sad

Mine came through fine. I don't even remember them hurting. Husband and sister both had to have theirs removed. Together with various other teeth in the case of my husband.

Oh yes, and my dentist told me that they used to think wisdom teeth push your other teeth forward. But nowadays they believe teeth just move forward naturally. I used to have a gap between my front teeth and I don't anymore.

Top 2 came through absolutely fine.

Bottom left is severely impacted - it has grown through sideways and causing a hell of a lot of problems. Bottom right will be heading the same way in the next couple of years.

Scheduled to have them out in next couple of months, just waiting on a referral.

Had all mine out. Also had to have an additional tooth out because a wisdom tooth damaged it.

Mine came through fine but I had a few nasty infections, so had 'em whipped out.
