...the word you're looking for is 'BABY'.

I also have an eight year old bubba.

We can't stop calling her bubba even tho we've now got another baby.

Lil man/lady makes my teeth itch Angry

SconeRhymesWithGone · 26/02/2015 23:18

Have any of you heard of American golfer Bubba Watson? Grin

SconeRhymesWithGone · 26/02/2015 23:19

I may need to explain that in the US South, "bubba" is a nickname meaning "brother."

Eminado · 26/02/2015 23:23

Really sorry but i love my bubs! Just rolls off my tongue...sorry!

WheresTheHoneyMummy · 26/02/2015 23:24

I have an 11 year old Bubs - shortened version of her nickname Bubble, although I've no idea how that started!
My mum calls my youngest nephew lil man - yuk Hmm She has 6 grandson's and has only ever used it for the youngest. Think she's seen it on fb and decided to use it.

See, DH is my "bubs" sometimes, but this is short for bubbeleh which is Yiddish. Bubba for baby makes me want to punch. As does hubs, hubby etc

MaudeLebowski · 27/02/2015 00:10

DH called our babies 'babbits'

AcrossthePond55 · 27/02/2015 00:54

Where I come from 'Bubba' is an overweight man in jeans and an undershirt with a grimy baseball cap (backwards) holding a can of cheap beer.

Millyx · 27/02/2015 00:54

that was my ginger cats name

AfroPuffs · 27/02/2015 01:23

I know someone who calls her partner Hubba. That's far worse IMO....

Thumbwitch · 27/02/2015 01:26

YANBU because you can like or hate whatever you want - but an awful lot of people use it! Australians, for e.g.... there is even a lovely forum here called BubHub Wink

Gullygirl · 27/02/2015 01:51

I know a woman who calls her DH Hun.When he's not even there.
As in, "Hun is having a day off work"." I need to check with Hun."

I actually thought it was his name for over a year.Confused

Out0fCheeseError · 27/02/2015 03:57

When someone says 'hun' I always have to fight the urge to say 'Attila the...?'

Bubba makes me think of scary guys in US prisons. Hardly the association you want made with your pfb.

That's what I call my dog :D

MythicalKings · 27/02/2015 06:18

Awful, awful, awful. All of these.

And can I add calling a child "mate"?

"Put your shoes on, mate."

No. He has a name. He is not your mate.

BirdInTheRoom · 27/02/2015 07:13

Bubba, baba, mumma, mama - all horrible!

myshinynewusername · 27/02/2015 07:38

"When someone says 'hun' I always have to fight the urge to say 'Attila the...?'"

Me too. In fact I have nicknamed the mothers at our local community centre and their bossy ringleader 'Atilla and the huns'. Makes me laugh anyway, and you bloody well need to around that lot.

OTheHugeManatee · 27/02/2015 09:34

I used to call my brother 'Blubba' when I was younger. Until he retaliated by calling me 'Cyst' Grin

OTheHugeManatee · 27/02/2015 09:36

PS yanbu, OP.

pootlebug · 27/02/2015 09:37

Came across a family on holiday who referred to two-year-old as 'bubba' and themselves as 'mumma' and 'dadda'. Arghhh.

HermioneWeasley · 27/02/2015 09:38

It's revolting

As is any version of "hubs" "hubster" or "hubby" . And bring back hanging for "yumsk"

Invariably these people are offended when I use "cunt". Because I speak like a fucking adult.
