To let ds take a bottle taped to an egg box into school as his 'art homework'

Ds is 5.
Homework was to make something with a plastic bottle and other recycled objects. I gave him a bottle and a variety of boxes and junk and left him to it.

He has created a 'tank' by sticking the bottle to half an egg box so it looks like the tank's tracks. He's put some stickers on the tank for the controls and had a very poor attempt at colouring the egg box. Oh and shoved some red tissue paper in the front of the bottle which is meant to be what the tank is firing.

It looks truly shit. However after being at work all day Monday - Friday I just haven't got it in me to create a junk modelling masterpiece. I know I will regret this tomorrow when all the other parents show up with awesome creations.

Aibu to let him get on with it?

Fingers crossed, I hope it wins. Grin

VanitasVanitatum · 26/02/2015 17:11

Is this a stealth boast?! Is awesome!

Notmymuse · 26/02/2015 17:12

It's not a stealth boast honestly!

I just know the other parents will have put hours into making a glorious creation. Ds is very very proud of his tank. He did originally only have the red bit of tissue at the front - I suggested the smoke. That's the extent of my input I'm afraid ds.

Seriously the project I do help DS 9 with are much worse than this

SoonToBeMrsB · 26/02/2015 17:15

Ahhh it's brilliant! Definitely send it in!

RabbitsarenotHares · 26/02/2015 17:19

I think it's great! I love the camouflage design of the top!

Will keep my fingers crossed that he wins!

sparklepopsicles · 26/02/2015 17:22

I think it's really good for a 5 year old. He might win.

anothernumberone · 26/02/2015 17:23

Tbh it is shit........... For a tank designer, for a 5 year old it is fantastic. What were you expecting, design calculations.
I think you are unreasonable to think a teacher won't be impressed by that. Actually I think your biggest problem is going to be that the teacher now thinks you are shit at art since (s)he won't believe it was all done by a 5 year old.

Notmymuse · 26/02/2015 17:24

I know it's ok for a 5 year old.
But I also know it will look shit when put with all the ones made by people in their 30s and 40s!

Notmymuse · 26/02/2015 17:27

Oh god I don't know - a representation of the pyramids made entirely with bottle tops or something I expect!

BitchBags · 26/02/2015 17:28

Ahh op o think it looks awesome! He must be very proud

bettyboop1970 · 26/02/2015 17:29

That is really good for a 5year old. Tell him it's fantastic and that you're proud of his creation. I bloody hate theses projects! Yanbu

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 26/02/2015 17:29

I think he's done really well, bless him Smile

Charlie97 · 26/02/2015 17:35

My niece won an award at her school for her excellent construction!

Can't remember what it was exactly, something to do with a magnifying glass looking into an egg.

She got high praise indeed, it was displayed in the foyer of the school, she was given a personal well done by the head mistress, for the excellent effort she had made.

Truth be to,d my husband (her uncle) did it all while she watched the Tweenies.

Therefore the tank is a great effort in my opinion.

PunkrockerGirl · 26/02/2015 17:37

I think it's excellent. Well done your ds Smile

PamBagnallsGotACollage · 26/02/2015 17:41

That is a great bit if junk modelling for a five year old. As a teacher, I can honestly say that a model like that would instantly be given higher consideration in a comp than one that had clearly had loads if parental input.

Italiangreyhound · 26/02/2015 17:43

Notmymuse, it's his homework, his creation and I hope you praised it a lot! The fact he willing to do a six hour day and then come home and do more work at age five is a miracle in itself.

Mamafratelli · 26/02/2015 17:44

It's fab.

I sent ds in an Easter bonnet last year which he had liberally decorated with fish stickers. It was all his own work. He won the competition for best bonnet in his class. Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 26/02/2015 17:45

YANBU - start as you mean to go on - his homework is his homework.

You will be able to tell a lot about his teacher from who wins!

LineRunner · 26/02/2015 17:48

Love it.

You put a chick on it next month and double it up as an Easter bonnet. I would.
