Sitting here thinking about mine when I should be working and thought I would throw it out to the MN masses. Grin

After much deliberation, it is a tie for me between:

'Jonnys in the Basement mixing up the medicine, I'm on the pavement thinking 'bout the government' - Dylan

And

'Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty'

Anything that pulls you up? Makes you laugh? Breaks your heart? Has great memories?

"You were better to me than I was to myself.
For me there's you and there ain't nobody else."
James Taylor and Carly Simon, How Sweet it is...

crackerjack00 · 24/02/2015 21:32

'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections

Can't hear it without thinking about DH.

inlectorecumbit · 24/02/2015 21:32

But if you can stand the test you know
Your worst is better than their best

Sangria had one of mine, the Famous Blue Raincoat lines.

Also
If you see her say hello

Bob Dylan. Simple and heartbreaking.

When I think more than I want to think
Do things I never should do
I drink much more that I ought to drink
Because I brings me back you

Northernexile · 24/02/2015 21:35

Another one I love is:

Never ever wanted to be with you
All you ever gave me was the boredom I suffocate in
Adrift in cheap dreams don't stop the rain
Numbed out in piss towns just wanna dig their graves

Motown Junk by the Manics, neatly summing up my 15 year-old life!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 24/02/2015 21:40

Why do you look so sad. Tears are in your eyes come on and talk to me now. Dont be ashamed to cry. Let me see you through cause I've seen a dark side, too. You're standing at the cross roads. You don't know which path to choose. Let me come along, cause even if you're wrong. I'll stand by you.
(I'll stand by you)

Where would I be what would I do if you never helped me through. I hope some day if you lost your way. You would turn to me. Like I turned to you
(I turn to you)

My instincts tell me I'll be here all night.

listsandbudgets · 24/02/2015 21:47

He's under rated IMHO but i love some of Chris De Burgh's lyrics.

This from The Son and The Father is wonderful just so simple and so real:

Now I'm walking with my boy through the place that is our home,
And the memories of his life are growing forever,
And I'm looking through his eyes at all the wonders of the world,
Then hand in hand we will make this journey together;
And we will talk of men and pirates, and heroes in the dark,
I will tell him of the hungers and the mysteries of the heart,
And I will always hear you crying, I will always dry your tears;

FuzzyWizard · 24/02/2015 21:47

Oooh- I forgot the postal service- awesome lyrics

I have to speculate
That God himself did make us into corresponding shapes
Like puzzle pieces from above - such great heights

You seem so out of context in this gaudy apartment complex
The stranger with your door key explaining that I'm just visiting
And I am finally seeing why I was the one worth leaving- the district sleeps alone tonight

And death cab for cutie-

If heaven and hell decide that they both are satisfied
And illuminate the nos on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

susiella · 24/02/2015 21:51

Why don't you close the door and shut the curtains
'cos you're not going anywhere.
He's coming up the stairs and in a moment he'll want to see your underwear.
You couldn't stop it now. There's no way to get out.
He's standing far too near. How the hell did you get here.
Semi-naked in somebody else's room.
I'd give my whole life to see it.
Just you stood there only in your underwear.
If fashion is your trade then when you're naked I guess you must be unemployed yeah.
Cos once it's underway there's no escaping the fact that you're a girl and he's a boy.
You couldn't stop it now. There's no way to get out.
He's standing much too near. How the hell did you get here.
Semi-naked in someone else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it.
Just you stood there only in your underwear.
If you close your eyes and just remember that this is what you wanted last night.
So why is it so hard for you to touch him.
For you to go and give yourself to him?
I couldn't stop it now.
There's no way to get out.
He's standing much too near and how the hell did you get here
Semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it.
Just you stood there only in your underwear.
Do, do do do do. Do, do. Do, do. Do, do, do, do, do. Do, do. Do, do.
Oh yeah I want to see you. Want to see you only in your underwear.

"we kid ourselves there's future in the fucking, but there is no fucking future!" - los campesinos. I love the play on words in that one

"Thatcher fucked the kids" - frank turner

"my fingertips are holding on to the cracks in our foundation, and I know that I should let go but I can't " - Kate Nash

"I think I better leave right now before I fall any deeper, I think I better leave right now, I'm feeling weaker and weaker" - will young

the whole of "wonderful now" by everclear, rings so true for a child of divorce

"all I needed was the love you gave, all I needed for another day, and all I ever knew, only you " yazoo

"cos you're the place my life begins, and you'll be where it ends, I'm flying without wings" - westlife Blush

Binkybix · 24/02/2015 21:51

I just typed out and lost lyrics to 'do you remember the first time?' by Pulp. Not enough energy to type out again.

Jarvis Cocker is a genius writer.

FuzzyWizard · 24/02/2015 21:54

Bean- I love that Kate Nash song. Genius lyrics.

susiella · 24/02/2015 21:54

Cut & paste. Although as Mumsnet is running extremely slowly it still took me about an hour to post.

HayDayRookie · 24/02/2015 21:56

Any Bob Dylan song. Man is he talented....

johngrady · 24/02/2015 21:58

While some sore heads will rue last nights endeavours
And make Sundays vow that they won't get so leathered
Dads shout at lads so they foul number 7
There's no need for fighting they're only 11
A little introduction to the state of things

What of the woman who stands by her fella
Despite the bruises brought on by the stella
To cook and to clothe and to clean and to screw
Is not the sum total of all she can do

The State of Things - Reverend and the Makers

Also

If you're not living on the edge
You take up too much room

beanlovesb · 24/02/2015 21:59

agree fuzzy! I swear that whole song could have been based on a previous relationship of mine!

Binkybix · 24/02/2015 22:09

I couldn't find a site that would let me cut and paste!

Pearl Jam – Elderly woman behind the counter in a small town

I seem to recognize your face
Haunting, familiar yet, I can't seem to place it
Cannot find the candle of thought to light your name
Lifetimes are catching up with me

All these changes taking place
I wish I'd seen the place
But no one's ever taken me
Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away
Oh, hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away

I swear I recognize your breath
Oh, memories like fingerprints, they're slowly raising
Me, you, wouldn't recall for I'm not my former
It's hard when you're stuck upon the shelf

I changed by not changing at all
Small town predicts my fate
Perhaps that's what no one wants to see

Well, I just wanna scream, "Hello"
Oh, my God it's been too long
Never dreamed you'd return
But now here you are and here I am
Hearts and thoughts they fade away

And so many other of Eddie Vedder's lyrics.

pineapplecrush · 24/02/2015 22:18

I'm dancing on the White House lawn
Sipping tea by the Taj Mahal at dawn
Hanging round the gardens of Babylon

Minnie Mouse has got it all sewn up
She gets more fanmail than The Pope
She takes the Mickey out of all my phobias
Like signing cheques to ward off double pneuomonia
"Life is a minestrone" 10cc

Elledouble · 24/02/2015 22:19

Rollon I adore Cerys!

"We will know, won't we/the stars will explode in the sky/but they don't, do they?/ stars have their moment then they die" - Are You The One That I've Been Waiting For - Nick Cave

Basically all of Please Please Please by the Smiths and I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen (almost anything by Leonard Cohen, in fact).
