Sitting here thinking about mine when I should be working and thought I would throw it out to the MN masses. Grin

After much deliberation, it is a tie for me between:

'Jonnys in the Basement mixing up the medicine, I'm on the pavement thinking 'bout the government' - Dylan

And

'Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty'

Anything that pulls you up? Makes you laugh? Breaks your heart? Has great memories?

You're angry, I know this
The world couldn't care less
You're lonely, I feel this
And you wish you were the best
No teachers, Or guidance
And you always walk alone
You're crying
At night when, Nobody else is home
Come over here and let me hold your hand and hug you darling
I promise you that it won't always feel this bad. There are so many things I want to say to you, You're the girl I used to be
You little heartbroken thirteen year old me
You're laughing, But you're hiding
God I know that trick too well
You forget, That I've been you
And now I'm just the shell
I promise, I love you and
Everything will work out fine
Don't try to, Grow up yet, Oh just give it some time
The pain you feel is real you're not asleep but it's a nightmare, But you can wake up anytime
Oh don't lose your passion or the fighter that's inside of you
You're the girl I used to be
The pissed off complicated thirteen year old me

Pink Conversations with my 13 year old self

So late to this thread.

Welsh - I can't believe you chose 'At the age of 37'. Such an obscure line that I love!

And Norma - 'if fashion is your trade, then when you're naked, I guess you must be unemployed'.

Ditto!

I'm going to go for...

"She's a jar with a heavy lid,
My pop quiz kid"

by Wilco

And

"Leroy got a better job so we moved
Kevin lost a tooth now he's started school
I got a brand new 8 month old baby girl
I sound like a housewife
Hey Shell, I think I'm a housewife"

From Anchorage by Michelle Shocked.

'How come you've never said that you love me, in all the time you've known me? How come you've never said that you're sorry .... And I do?'

Sinead O'Connor - This is a rebel song

'Find a cure, find a cure for my life... Oh my god, oh you think Im in control, Oh My God'

Ida Marie - Oh My God

You are the only thing
in any room you're ever in

Beautiful lyric from Elbow

MrsCakesPrecognition · 27/02/2015 02:13

Every bit of clothing ought to make you pretty
You can cut the clothing, gray is such a pity
I should wear the clothing of Mr. Walter Mitty
See my tailor, he's called Simon, I know it's going to fit
Ian Dury & The Blockheads - Sex And Drugs And Rock & Roll

Lots of Ian Dury lyrics in fact - but this is my favourite short quote.

Then suddenly
Like a fly in a cup of tea
I'm stirred and no longer free
To fly away
The Damned - Is It A Dream

Always makes me smile.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 27/02/2015 06:22

LatinForTelly- I think Joan Baez resorted to one night stands with strangers because of Bob.

Have you read her autobiography? It is sooooo telling. She still has him on this pedestal and wants to smash his ugly little face in at the same time. She talks about mislaying a kimono, and never working out what had happened to it, and then going round to his house once he was married to Sara, and her opening the door wearing it, and Joan says "Oh, that's where it went" and you think you absolute tosspot, you gave her kimono to another woman!

YouBetterWerk · 27/02/2015 08:04

I'm broke but I'm happy.
I'm poor but I'm kind
I'm wrong but I'm sorry baby

AmIthatHot I heard that song the other day, its a beautiful lyric. :)

puthyjip43 · 27/02/2015 11:45

You will always be together, cos he gets you up in leather

RosemaryVonHerb · 27/02/2015 12:33

From Snow Patrol's Signal Fire:

The perfect words never crossed my mind 'cause there was nothing in there but you

And

In the confusion and the aftermath you are my signal fire

And all of "how long will I love you".

From Ellie Goulding's Breathe:
you are the risk I'll always take

And from the Rubberbandits' Horse Outside:

i don't need insurance, I don't need no parking space, and if you try to clamp my horse he'll kick you in the face Grin

seanbonbon · 27/02/2015 12:50

"She said I don't believe in any old Jesus, if there was a God then why is my ass the perfect height for kicking?" BellX1 - Rocky took a lover.
My favourite song lyric ever.

RosemaryVonHerb · 27/02/2015 12:51

And:
Just to be with you is having the best day of my life
From dido's Thank You.

Nomama · 27/02/2015 13:28

Crikey, can't believe I am so late to this one!

Much of Tom Waits floats round my head a lot.

But...

3 more inches of hair
Is a whole fucking world
Of rebellion
4 Minute Rebellion by Matthew Jay (I am so glad I saw him perform before he died)

Also

Spi - der has eight legs you know
Something in My eye - Ed Harcourt

And much of Elbow's Asleep in the Back album creeps through too

No! Babybird... the whole of I Didn't Want to Wake you Up... www.metrolyrics.com/i-didnt-want-to-wake-you-up-lyrics-baby-bird.html

No... oh I give in. I have a permanent sound track running through my head. so much so I don't always need to use my iPod! Far too much music in my life Grin

Nomama · 27/02/2015 15:42

And thank you. I have had a little saying going through my head for long time. It started when I was trying to screw up the courage to resign... all I could hear was 'and join the dots'... I could not place it.

Because of this thread I am listening to Matthew Jay again...

I put a dot next to everything that made any sense
And joined the dots, joined the dots

Remember this feeling
Remember this feeling
It will come again
But until it does
Remember this feeling
When everything makes sense
Everything makes sense

Without remembering the rest of the lyrics 'and join the dots' has kept me going for a while Smile

YouBetterWerk · 27/02/2015 16:07

FattymcFatFat - That Pink one is awesome, I'd never heard it before. I also love her 'Dear Mr President' written when Bush was in power:

Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me.
...What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 27/02/2015 19:32

I'm going to the darklands
To talk in rhyme
With my chaotic soul
As sure as life means nothing
And all things end in nothing
And heaven I think
Is too close to hell

Parklands - Jesus and Mary Chain

Lay me down gently, lay me down low,
I fear I am broken and won't mend, I know.
One thing I ask when the stars light the skies,
Who now will sing me lullabies,
Oh who now will sing me lullabies.

In this big world I'm lonely, for I am but small,
Oh angels in heaven, don't you care for me at all?
You heard my heart breaking for it rang through the skies,
So why don't you sing me lullabies,
Oh why don't you sing me lullabies.

I lay here; I'm weeping for the stars they have come,
I lay here not sleeping; now the long night has begun.
The man in the moon, oh he can't help but cry
For there's no one to sing me lullabies,

Oh there's no one to sing me lullabies.

Who will sing me lullabies? Kate Rusby

RosemaryVonHerb · 27/02/2015 20:08

Sorry need to correct myself, it's "hold my breath" by ellie goulding, not "breathe".

engeika · 27/02/2015 20:13

I have always liked Lola - Kinks - especially the last verse. Simple - but sums something up I think.

Well I left home just a week before
And I'd never ever kissed a woman before
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said dear boy I'm gonna make you a man

Well I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/02/2015 22:03

well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you when you think everything's okay, and everything's going right.and life has a funny way of helping you out when everything's gonr wrong and everything blows up in your face
(Ironinic)

YouBetterWerk · 27/02/2015 22:22

liveinalighthouse Ironic was a great shout, I think is stopped hearing it's lyrics long ago because everyone's heard it so many times but actually seeing them written down they are lovely.
