Sitting here thinking about mine when I should be working and thought I would throw it out to the MN masses. Grin

After much deliberation, it is a tie for me between:

'Jonnys in the Basement mixing up the medicine, I'm on the pavement thinking 'bout the government' - Dylan

And

'Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty'

Anything that pulls you up? Makes you laugh? Breaks your heart? Has great memories?

You can take all the tea in china
Put it in a big brown bag for me
Sail it right round the seven oceans
And drop it straight into the deep blue sea

Because

She's as sweet as Tupelo Honey.
She's an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet as Tupelo honey
Just like honey , baby, from the bee

Prof green about his absent dad who died

Dear dad,
As a kid I looked up to you,
Only thing was I never saw enough of you.
The last thing I said to you was I hated you,
I loved you and now it's too late to say to you.
Just didn't know what to do or how to deal with it,
Even now deep down I'm still livid.
To think, I used to blame me,
I wondered what I did to you to make you hate me.
I wasn't even 5, life's a journey and mine wasn't an easy ride,
You never even got to see me rhyme,
I just wished you would have reached out
I wish you would've been round when I'd been down.
I wish that you could see me now,
Wherever you are I really hope you found peace.
But know that if I ever have kids,
Unlike you I'll never let them be without me

Makes me cry as my son has a dad who just walked away never looking back

He said "hello, little woman"
She said "hello, big man"
That was when the wooing and the winning began ...

Carly Simon "Hello Big Man" the story of how her parents fell in love.

daisychain01 · 26/02/2015 07:33

That's a very sad lyric there, exMrs. And very sad indeed about your DSs dad.

I'm breaking my heart at the moment because I have just lost a dear friend to cancer and he bought his sons up single handed, so awful they have lost their Rock far too soon. isn't life cruel sometimes Sad

So how can you tell me you're lonely and say for you that's the sun don't shine?
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London, I'll show you something that will make you change your mind.

And

I crashed down in the crossbar and the pain was enough to make a shy bald Buddhist reflect and plan a mass murder.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 26/02/2015 10:24

Well, I'll be damned, here comes your ghost again,
But that's not unusual, it's just that the moon was full, and you happened to call...

And

Don't tell me of love everlasting, and other sad dreams
I don't want to hear,
Just tell me of passionate strangers, who rescue each other from a lifetime of care....

Both Joan Baez and both, clearly, about Bob Dylan.

If anyone wants to learn about BD, then read JB's autobiography. My, but she loved that man. And he was such a bastard to her.

This thread is awesome!

exmrs that's really moving

My favourite is:

I don't mean to be unkind but you'll just have to go and find something else to do.

And don't ask me what went wrong...the list goes on and on...

thatsucks · 26/02/2015 13:41

curlyweasel · 26/02/2015 13:57

Oooh - love this thread!

Do I love you ? Yes I love you
Will we always be happy go lucky ?
Do I love you ? Yes I love you
But it's easy come, and it's easy go
All this talking is only bravado yeah

The Blue Nile - Tinsel Town in the Rain

And for sobbing purposes...

I was bruised and battered, I couldn't tell what I felt.
I was unrecognizable to myself.
I saw my reflection in a window, I didn't know my own face.
Oh brother are you gonna leave me wastin' away
On the Streets of Philadelphia.

I walked the avenue, 'til my legs felt like stone,
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone,
At night I could hear the blood in my veins,
Black and whispering as the rain,
On the Streets of Philadelphia.

Ain't no angel gonna greet me.
It's just you and I my friend.
My clothes don't fit me no more,
I walked a thousand miles
Just to slip this skin.

The night has fallen, I'm lyin' awake,
I can feel myself fading away,
So receive me brother with your faithless kiss,
Or will we leave each other alone like this
On the Streets of Philadelphia

I can't even hum tears in heaven without weeping Sad

Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day,
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven.

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please.

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure,
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven.

I might be movin' to Montana soon
Just to raise me up a crop of
Dental Floss

Raisin' it up
Waxen it down
In a little white box
That I can sell uptown

By myself I wouldn't
Have no boss,
But I'd be raisin' my lonely
Dental Floss

Now the darkness only stays at nighttime
In the morning it will fade away
Daylight is good
At arriving at the right time
Its not always
Going to be this grey.

All things must pass by George Harrison

Born with the moon in Cancer
Choose her a name she will answer to
Call her green and the winters cannot fade her
Call her green for the children who've made her
Little green, be a gypsy dancer

Joni Mitchell, singing about giving her daughter up for adoption.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 26/02/2015 18:59

See I know she loves you,
I know she loves you,
so I understand. I understand.

I'd probably be just as crazy about you if you were my old man.
Maybe next life time. Maybe next life, possibly. Possibly.
Until then old friend your secret is safe with me

Fishandjam · 26/02/2015 19:05

Not actually my favourite, but - cheesy as it sounds, this chorus from "Damn Nation" by Lower Than Atlantis has resonated with me a lot lately. (Had a big decision to make about my life.)

Live life, love life while I'm alive
I've only got one chance, this time and it's do or die
I don't fear damnnation, I know what is right
I've got one life and I'm never gonna live a lie

fattymcfatfat · 26/02/2015 19:50

I felt the darkness as it tried to pull me down, pull me down
The kind of dark that haunts a hundred year old house
I wrestle with my thoughts, I shook the hand of doubt
Running from my past, I'm praying feet don't fail me now

falling in reverse the drug in me is you
