to ask if you think dangerous satanic cults exist?

Someone I know had been posting a few articles on FB lately re conspiracy theories. Found it a bid odd. Nice, intelligent, healthy living, talented lady in her 50s. Then recently, she posted this

MNHQ has removed a link because it contained highly identifying information about young children and their families

"A lot to take in....however, the biggest story of our generation is unfolding in the UK to near complete silence in the international corporate media."

It was a bit chilling as all the areas cited are very near where I live.

I'm shocked that so many people believe all this stuff. It's not as if it's just one paranoid teenager smoking weed and getting paranoid. But lots of functional adults, many with kids. What's behind it all?

AIBU to ask if anyone here thinks there is any truth at all behind these stories?

The child abuse scandals involving Jimmy Saville and MPs from the 70s & 80s

Letitsnow9 · 24/02/2015 15:41

Sadly I do, i knew someone with DID/MPD who grew up in a cult. There are cults in the world and have been prosecutions, whether they worship satan, God or anything else there are sadly always going to be people who abuse others.
The Witness wore red is the most amazing book about a woman who grew up in flds cult, escaped and helped prosecute those at the heart of it. Ghost Girl is a really interesting book about a girl who was being abused and the possibility it was a cult, peadophile ring or mentally she fractured her abusing parents into several characters

givemushypeasachance · 24/02/2015 15:42

Assuming this is related to the case that's popped up on several forums and facebook pages, then there are so many claims here that could be factually tested as being true or not - such as all the teachers at a school being involved in satanic rituals and bearing the same tattoos, a local McDonalds having a "secret kitchen" for cooking babies and selling human meat to unsuspecting local residents, a local shoe repair shop selling shoes made from baby skin - then it should be easy for the authorities to verify the claims. And since they are all over the internet they can't claim not to have been made aware of them - they've probably had hundreds of concerned people sending them links to the complaint.

It does all sound like complete bollocks though; very unfortunate that those poor children have apparently been coached into coming out with all this stuff on camera.

Dilbertdoes · 24/02/2015 15:56

I've read a very good biography of Jim Jones (of Jonestown massacre cult). Those who followed him were not just people on the margins, and included some who were bright, well educated and professionally successful. And look at the number of very rich and famous celebrities who have joined the Christian Scientists. We are probably more susceptible than we think.

ghostland · 24/02/2015 16:00

Yes, they do exist and can be found currently slaughtering thousands of Yazidis, Christians and Kurds in Syria and Iraq. They are otherwise known as ISIS or ISIL or Daesh.

What was the statement by the judge worksallhours?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 24/02/2015 17:02

Agree mushy. I think the allegations are pretty disgusting. There is a lot of pointing out the nationality and colour of perpetrators. It strikes me as someone who has a grudge. How on earth would they find out all of that information and not be found out by the cult who would surely have no qualms killing her to keep quiet.

She also accuses a load of local schools but the ones she has chosen seem to have been picked on proximity to the accused school. She couldn't even be bothered to find out the name of one just put location.

The most disturbing part is the accusation that children as young as 7 are committing rape on a regular basis. She even puts ther names and addresses.

Quietattheback · 24/02/2015 21:25

I think all the schools named are part of a church federation of schools but I could be wrong about that.

As bizarre as the alligations are, it's not the first time I've heard of a fast food chain being involved in the sacrifice and cannibalism of children. A few years ago somebody posted on FB a link to a recording of a radio show with two Rabbi's, the host began by introducing the other rabbi and explains that although they were both Jewish that the other ones God was not his God devout Jews would never worship in this way. The other one went on to explain how they kidnaped children, sacrificed them, drank their blood and then sold the meat on to fast food chains. He was totally Blaine about it and said we tell you that we do these things but you're so stupid you think we are kidding.

I thought it was fake when I heard it and put it down to anti semetic clap trap (which it may well be of course), but it is unnerving when the same story keeps being told.

Quietattheback · 24/02/2015 21:26

Blasé not Blaine.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 24/02/2015 21:29

at least two of the schools are private and definitely not part of the church federation as one is non-denom and one is catholic

I'm not saying things like this don't happen. I'm just saying in this instance the info given out is plain wrong. There was no need to name children and accuse some of committing sexual assaults. That's what makes it sound like a grudge. i think there is more to this than what has been released.

Hopefully the police will look into it (although a lot of people will shout cover up no doubt)

worksallhours · 24/02/2015 22:14

cakedup ... he felt the suspects enjoyed "serious protection" and "high-level plots" were employed to ensure the investigation failed.

The Telegraph covered it in 2004.

mimishimmi · 24/02/2015 22:23

Yes but they won't and don't look like your 'garden variety' Satanists with a goats head on the gatepost, dark scrungy clothes and long greasy hair. They are extraordinarily wealthy and powerful or on their way to becoming so...and very well presented.

Royalsighness · 24/02/2015 22:35

Quietattheback I heard that one too and it really made me think "what if?" It was horrible.

cakedup · 25/02/2015 10:41

Yes, I can understand the sense of entitlement and power that comes from being wealthy, as well as people who have been abused themselves in the past who end up being abusers. I just wonder what the Satanic stuff is all about...are they belief systems like religion, that 'empower' people? Is it just a trend amongst certain type of people? Perhaps it works a bit like porn in that for some people the 'thrill' of abusing children wears off and they have to go even further to get their highs.

I think the more it is exposed, the less 'scary' or powerful it will seem. The secrecy factor just gives it more power. When you remove all the costumes and rituals and whatever else it is they do, then you're just left with a bunch of sick fucks who hopefully end up behind bars and are despised by the majority.

But about this stuff going on in a secret kitchen in Macdonalds, I just find that hard to believe. Someone would have found out. Whether it's the people that work there, the health inspector or an undercover journalist.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 25/02/2015 10:51

What about the shoes made from baby skin apparently made by a local cobbler? That is quite a claim and quite a process to undertake. And how do you feel about them naming children accused of sexual assault and also giving names and addresses of potential victims?

Social services need to talk to those kids. They are clearly suffering some sort of abuse.

cakedup · 25/02/2015 11:26

It's insane, how did she even get all those addresses, emails and contact numbers? If they're real. The author has completely discredited anything she has to say by listing names of the abused IMO.

Baby skin shoes seems too far fetched to me.

OP posts:
BuildYourOwnSnowman · 25/02/2015 11:38

Her kids went to the school so she has the names. She will probably have addresses and emails of her kids classmates. One of the people she has accused is her ex husband (he is the alleged ring leader). It probably wouldn't take much to get addresses once you know the name.

Someone commented that the McDonalds looked creepy and wasn't decorated like other McDonald's. in reality that is because it is on a high street where the shops are old and have to stay within certain restrictions. It also closed down recently and was replaced by a high end chain. To some this is highly suspicious but in reality it is a wealthy area where people want fancy sandwiches rather than a burger and there are other larger McDonald's nearby that probably make more money.

I wonder if the new tenants have found the secret kitchen.

Fabulassie · 25/02/2015 11:49

Well organised cults? Probably very few, if any, have ever existed. A handful of very disturbed people who think they are "satanic" and do scary stuff? Sure. My father was a school teacher and he had a student who, with an accomplice, murdered a woman in a ritualistic fashion and mutilated the body.

Droflove · 25/02/2015 11:52

You would probably be surprised at the amount of satanic cult like abuse happening in the UK but it's not necessarily the way you imagine in an underground lair with everyone dressed in black. But there is plenty if children being exorcised in horrific ways. More than you would want to know.

pineappleshortbread · 25/02/2015 11:54

I suppose we do like to link horrific and unexplainable and ununderstandable acts to satanic because then at least there is a reason as to why they did it.
One problem with this is that people start linking satanic to witchcraft and then we have a witch hunt again and people get persecuted. Somebody mentioned earlier Alistair crowley and yes he had some bizarre ideas but he was not a satanic he was one of the fathers of modern paganism and witchcraft. It is important when discussing this that we keep modern witchcraft, wicca and paganism separate from satanic. With regards to the Africa witchcraft it is actually African Christianity which tortures and kills children that they think are possessed or are witches not witchcraft which hurts children

BabyDubsEverywhere · 25/02/2015 12:04

Could someone explain what the difference is between a cult and a religion? Is it numbers, or how long its been going? or is it something to do with involving 'sacrifice'?

Grewupinacult · 25/02/2015 12:07

I've name changed for this.
Organised ritual abuse does exist. I grew up in a family that was involved in it. I know they used "satanic rituals" but I believe these were merely like window dressing to number one, terrify us and ensure compliance and number two, to make sure that if anyone spoke out it would sound completely unbelievable.
The ultimate aim was to abuse children and to make money, from child prostitution and pornography as well as drugs. The "satanic" element was a handy cover for making it too crazy and terrifying to be discovered/spoken about etc.
It's all just evil people doing evil stuff because they can.
That's not to say that what this woman the OP was linking to is saying is true or that she isn't mentally ill etc.
But as a blanket "does it exist?"... Yes.

pineappleshortbread · 25/02/2015 12:10

Religion is an old cult and a cult is a new religion. Generally religion starts out as a cult until it is recognised by those in power as a religion

MonstrousRatbag · 25/02/2015 12:27

That's a bit unfair, pineapple! I'd say cults and religions are differentiated by their structures usually, and sometimes by the nature of the beliefs involved. They aren't always mutually exclusive: there can be cults within organised religion.

Cults I think feature most of the following things: a charismatic leader or leadership exerting great power over members, loss of autonomy by members in fundamental ways, exclusion from the outside world and/or unwillingness to allow interaction with non-members, extreme or irrational forms of belief (the world is ending, the aliens are coming, having sex with the leader/children/donkeys will lead you to enlightenment), and brainwashing techniques.

pineappleshortbread · 25/02/2015 12:30

Cult is believe or worship in a specific deity person or thing just like religion. Christianity and Islam were once considered cults until they became mainstream they are more similar than you think
