To hate it when people use the words "lad" and "lass" when talking about adults?

I know this isn't really a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I can't stand it when people use those words when talking about men and women, both in reference to themselves and about other people.

I had an ex who used to refer to himself as a lad constantly...he was 27 years old and he would call himself a lad FFS. I couldn't help but constantly think "no you're not a lad, you're a fucking man". He also referred to me as his "lass" even when I told him that I didn't like it. I am not a lass. I am a grown woman.

I've heard other people do it so I guess it's a thing but I hate it.

I also realise I'm probably biased as I dislike the words anyway, but it just seems even worse when it's used to describe adults.

Salmotrutta I live in the north east. Women and men are referred to as lads and lasses all the time here too. I haven't moved away yet.

Stay away from the North York moors in that case.

Waving back Quiero

My uncle used to call me bonny lass and I used to love it.

Ummm. This is weirdly enough a bit of a friendship red flag for me! I'm from the north and I've had some bad experiences with northerners who look down on their past and the culture/area.

If I met someone from the north east who really hated pet names, I'd probably avoid them. But you'd HATE me too OP because I call EVERYONE hun/luv or lover.

The only time I hear lad and lass is when people are referring to a "lads night out" or they say "ahh he/she's a good lad/lass". I'm in yorkshire. I haven't been called a lass since I was a child though and I don't hear either being used very much. "Are kid" usually means younger sibling, my uncle calls my dad that.

The pet name I hear the most here in Yorkshire is love. I'm not keen on it but I don't give it too much thought tbh.
