Hi,

I have been looking at inter web Tv thingys (on demand stuff) and wondered if anyone had any recommendations? Love film (Amazon on demand) and Netflix seem the most popular but Knowhow movies is much cheaper.......

Any pearls of wisdom? Smile

It will also put a load of spyware on your tablet Seefooddiet, no such thing as a free lunch.

I've just looked up Showbox, saw it was hosted in Russia. No thanks! Trojans and Viruses a go go.

I've read recent reports of Netflix blocking customers who have been accessing it via Hola unblocker etc. This worries me a bit, I don't want to be banned!

I used Lovefilm for over ten years - from the days when it was DVDsOnTap and it just began. Then we used both for a few months. Now I just use Netflix.

Lovefilm Advantages/Disadvantages:

  • Much wider selection of films, IMO.
  • Wider selection of the type of films I like - foreign, older films, independent and art house stuff
  • Always had good customer service and on lots of occasions been given a month/three months free service after making very minor comments on how it could be improved.
  • Can be used via a PS3 or Wii (use both here) attached to TV, very easy to use and find stuff.
  • Very few films/series with subtitles! V. annoying as I am partially deaf, and watch stuff with sleeping kids nearby so don't wish to wake them/disturb neighbours.
  • Not as good for newer TV series.
  • When broadband speed is low (have had probs with BB periodically for ages) it often will not even attempt to play, just gives an error message!

Netflix Advantages/Disadvantages:

  • Brilliant for kids stuff. Both kids have their own profile and even the toddler can use it to find what he wants to watch.
  • Great for TV series like House of Cards, OITNB, BB, Homeland, and lots of older series on there too.
  • Can be used with IP unblocker (at your own risk) to watch much more,
  • Most stuff has subtitles, which is ideal for me - films and TV series are fully subtitled in the main.
  • Different profiles so I don't get recommendations for Spongebob Squarepants in my lists!
  • Cheaper (not sure about now?)
  • Works well even when broadband speed is lower - it adjusts the picture quality/caching automatically for best/smoothest results.
  • Not so good for films - especially foreign films and independent stuff. Some newer films seem to take a long time to appear. Films often disappear just when I'd planned to watch them next weekend, with no warning (or is that just me?). Sure LoveFilm had a 'last chance to watch' section...

Hope this helps, obviously your wants/needs will be very different to mine though.

We have Netflix although mainly watch it for the TV shows (e.g. House of Cards, Breaking Bad, Better call Saul, Sherlock). I have had Amazon instant for a year (I got it for free via Amazon prime) but so far I haven't watched a single thing on it. It either doesn't have what I want to watch or it does but you have to pay extra.

Hola is fine, it's custom DNS they're blocking.
