To ask what jobs you hate that have ended up as 'your jobs'around the house

To be fair we have a fairly equal division of labour in the house but there are certain jobs that have somehow become 'mine' that I now detest.Plenty of others I don't love but don't hate to the same extent,my worst three are:
Cleaning out the kitchen sink (ie emptying the gunk from the gunk catcher and cleaning out any grime from under the basin etc.)
Cleaning the dishwasher filters and dishwasher (particularly winds me up as I seem to be only person who does not dump things in dishwasher still covered in
bits of food!)
Emptying the dishwasher (no real reason why for this one it's a bit of an irrational dislike,if I hand wash dishes instead I would also dislike drying and putting away over washing them.)
What are yours?

Litter tray and toilet cleaning are two jobs I seem to have ended up with and that OH rarely or never does.

SunsetSongster · 18/02/2015 15:46

There are lots that I do (and DH does) but the one that is winding me up at the moment is opening the curtains and switching off lights!

flippityflip · 18/02/2015 16:04

Yes cleaning the toilet is always me too.Yuk,but weirdly not so bad for me as sink.
We have lots of arrangements which work well, like DH does pretty much all laundry but I put it away which I don't mind.

Something which drives me mad though is I can't understand how I have taught my toddler DS how to use nesting cups but husband can't work out saucepans going away in the in order of size so they don't end up in a sort of precarious leaning tower of pans!(Also applies to stacking of baking dishes etc!)

Meal planning - its just so tedious.

Filing all of the household admin - not sure how I ended up with all of it, and probably wouldn't mind so much if I was actually handed it, instead of having to excavate piles of paper left all over the house.

I don't really mind any other jobs, except (as now) when DD and I are both ill and I just can't be faffed Hmm

PickledLilly · 18/02/2015 16:14

He walks the dogs because I can't handle two manic dogs and a toddler at the same time and I do pretty much everything else. He seems to think this is unfair and I should be able to do the dogs as well. Twat.

Changing the bin bag and putting the bins out for collection. Gives me the stabby rage Angry but he never does it and bin bags pile up in our garden.

halfwildlingwoman · 18/02/2015 16:54

Ironing. It bores me to tears. It's so boring I almost fall asleep doing it. DH only has two pairs of trousers and one shirt that ever need ironing, and I don't iron most of the DC clothes, so all the ironing is my clothing so it really is my job alone. I hate it so much that I leave it for weeks and then end up doing little bits of it in my underwear at 7am in the morning so I have something to wear to work. I really wish I could pay someone to do it. And I hang everything up on hangers as soon as it is out of the machine and everything, but nothing really reduces it.

weeblueberry · 18/02/2015 16:59

Wiping down the kitchen cabinets, cleaning the top of the manky bin, putting bleach down the sink, scrubbing the sink every so often, wiping the bottom of the fridge interior, wiping the scummy toothpaste rings from below the electric toothbrush, brushing out the crumbs from the larder, hoovering behind the bin where the horrid old bits live..., wiping down the kettle, soaking the microwave plate, sweeping crumbs out from under the sofa near where the toddler eats...

Basically all the things you'd notice if you didn't do them but don't if you're not the person doing them. Grin. I suspect he doesn't realise I do these things on a near daily basis. Most of the rest of the housework is pretty evenly split though but I don't think it's ever entered his head these things get done!

meandjulio · 18/02/2015 17:12

All housework because I loathe all of it.

Hoovering because although I hate it, dh hates it more and has not done any since he broke up with his previous girlfriend who was a lot stroppier than me in
Cleaning the bathroom because although I hate it, dh apparently has no idea that it is possible to clean a bathroom.
Dusting because I have never known dh to acknowledge dust. When I first visited the house, it was very tidy, but on closer inspection there was a layer of dust and grime on everything. DH still believes his tidiness trumps my slightly better than his cleanness.

On the positive side, he must be the only human being in the country who would find my cleanliness standards too onerous. And he deals with all rubbish issues this side of the tip - actually going to the tip is my job.

I have a long-term plan - we are slowly replacing all the carpets with hard flooring so there will be no more hoovering, and one day all our furniture will be off the floor so that we can have a Roomba. I may be 100 by the time we manage this but it WILL happen.

LeBearPolar · 18/02/2015 17:35

I forgive DH anything because he cleans up vomit and cat poo.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 18/02/2015 17:40

Cleaning the frigging oven

Fairyliz · 18/02/2015 17:45

Meal planning. I don't actually mind food shopping or cooking its just thinking of easy quick nutrious meals that everyone will eat. When I ask DH what he wants hes says 'I dont mind ' but then when a friend served up a dish he said 'we never get this at home'!
Well he should bloody ask for it then.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 18/02/2015 17:47

Throwing stuff out. I wouldn't describe DH as a hoarder but actually getting stuff out the front door once it's been identified as surplus to requirements seems to be beyond him. On the upside, he never notices that it's gone though [or pretends not to]

Cleaning up a cot filled with vomit, though to be fair he usually deals with the child when it happens which is brill as the smell makes me gag. Mostly he's great. He seems to have made a silent New Years resolution to help out more with the laundry mountain [mostly created by his gym/cycling habit admittedly] which is great and he always cleans the oven so I don't mind the fridge cleaning too much.

fuckingpamela · 18/02/2015 17:58

Everything is my responsibility unless explicitly 'handed over' as as a job for my dp to do at a moment that he deems convenient. Housework is not a necessity in his book apparently.

vivideye · 18/02/2015 19:09

Changing the bed sheets.

ginmakesitallok · 18/02/2015 19:15

Picking up dead stuff in the garden. True, doesn't happen often, but when it does it's me who gets sent out with the double bag.

ohtheholidays · 18/02/2015 19:31

Wouldn't it be great if we could all swap the jobs we hate with each other.I like meal planning and I love working out figures(yes I'm a nerd and proud)love gardening and cooking as well/But would like to swap with someone who likes to clean kitchens and bathrooms. Grin

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 18/02/2015 21:00

I do nearly everything except
car stuff, emptying and putting dustbins out, cutting grass
Sometimes done by oh
loading dishwasher(only sometimes,it seems putting the tablet in and turning it on is the complete job IHHO ),
Putting a wash on- his or kids only
washing up a saucepan (and leaving it on the hob with the colander, doesn't matter that the saucepan cupboard is below the hob)
doing breakfast for the kids.
He NEVER
pairs kids socks or puts their clothes away
Sheesh!

frumpet · 18/02/2015 21:05

All the jobs in this house are mine , with exception of sorting out computer type issues , everything else is apparently my responsibility .

ARoomWithoutAView · 18/02/2015 21:40

Having to operate PAYE on the domestic staff these days. The cash in hand days have long gone Sad
The cook, nanny, gardener, even the bloody gamekeeper have to go through payroll and we pay them weekly so it is so, so tedious.
