Worra don't you mean go and of sex?

WorraLiberty · 17/02/2015 22:44

I mean go fuck yourselves! Grin

georgepigsdinosaur · 17/02/2015 22:44

Security guards have no more power than the rest of the general public. They can make a "citizens arrest" and detain for an indictable or either way offence same as anyone else can, and use reasonable force to effect that.

No obligation for them to do so however

SaucyJack · 17/02/2015 22:44

Just checked and they only have powers to detain until police arrive if they have genuine cause to believe a theft has taken place. Else they have no more powers than anyone else.

I believe a rabbit would be more use than a hamster Worra.

Kikiw123 · 17/02/2015 22:45

Yes he should have.

But then the mother didn't look like she done much either. I'd have rugby tackled her to the ground! She didn't even lift the baby out the pushchair immediately.

Or a hampster

That'd really get 'em going...

HedgehogsDontBite · 17/02/2015 22:46

Of course they are mind, what do you think they do with shoplifters until the police arrive?

I believe they can only detain shoplifters if they have actually seen them committing the crime. Anything else is unlawful.

WorraLiberty · 17/02/2015 22:47

Yeah you say that Kikiw and I'd like to say the same

But who knows how any of us would react when innocently browsing the shelves in Boots and something like that happens?

She instinctively pushed her hand away though.

Quiero · 17/02/2015 22:48

I now sigh when I see these thread titles because of the predictability of the replies.

Has it ever crossed any of your minds that some people might not be as good at English as you? Might have a learning difficulty, English might not be their first language, might have missed a lot of school, might just not give a fuck etc, etc.

It's deeply unpleasant.

TheyLearnedFromBrian · 17/02/2015 22:49

This hamster should HAVE had sex.
This hamster should HAVE had sex.
This hamster should HAVE had sex.
This hamster should HAVE had sex.

While it had the chance.

RJnomore · 17/02/2015 22:49

Look, I probably should start another thread but a serious note...

I make a very good living partly because people struggle with literacy. Things like of/have may not matter on a forum but they sure as hell do on a job application. I would never pick someone up for it on a thread where they are asking for help "should I of done this" for example, but where it's a general comment on a news story, if no one is prepared to point out that a poster is making such a basic mistake, how would you expect them to be aware of it in another written situation?

And yeah I know, uptight teetotal spinster yadda yadda yadda - bring it on.

Sigh.

What a horrible thing to have happened to them, it must have been shocking.

At least it's been taken seriously now with all the coverage, but a shame that shoplifting probably would have been observed more closely at the time.

It does look like he couldn't have seen what had gone on.

RJnomore · 17/02/2015 22:51

See above queiro.

I have dedicated my professional life and a hell of a lot of volunteer hours to exactly that realisation.

Yeah, dull of mind and tedious of personality, that's me.

Any more for any more?

Quiero · 17/02/2015 22:55

In my job I help people fill in job applications all the time. Some of those people have very poor literacy skills. I would help them and explain that although it sounds like we say of the correct term is always 'have' or 've. I would do this on a one to one basis and I would do it kindly.

I wouldn't ridicule or humiliate anyone as happens regularly on here.

Quiero · 17/02/2015 22:57

The insults aimed at you are not on either tbf.

maddening · 17/02/2015 22:59

Rj - you are not here in a professional capacity - if someone starts a thread asking for help with grammar then cool - you can dart in there and volunteer to your hearts content - here you are just lacking in manners.

RJnomore · 17/02/2015 23:00

No I agree, they is no need for ridicule.

That however cuts both ways.

Not everyone pointing out an error is attempting to humiliate, unlike someof the sadly unimaginative follow on comments.

Btw, if you do identify poor literacy skills, please encourage your client to allow you to refer them on.

RJnomore · 17/02/2015 23:01

Thank yon maddening, it's lovely to see how high you have set the bar with your own manners.

If you don't mind, I won't follow your example.

Carpetcrawler · 17/02/2015 23:03

What a bunch of up their own arse tedious pedants on this thread.

No wonder people think mumsnet is full of twats.

WrappedInABlankie · 17/02/2015 23:06

I have no defence. I should have written have but didn't.

Tis my fault but meh today is a day where no fucks can be given

Quiero · 17/02/2015 23:06

Anyhoo (I know that isn't a real word before anyone points it out Wink) back to the thread.

The woman Should have been stopped for her own sake. I'm guessing she isn't very well.

Another fucking thread derailed by boring twits.

Get a life, (as the lovely girls from Bewitched once said).

With regards to the security guard I bet he wishes he had done more, what a horrible thing to happen.
