to think there are no discos anymore in Solihull / Birmingham

Used to love having a dance - used to go to the Tower Ballroom, Barbarellas etc.

Now I'm much, much older I'd still like to go somewhere for a bop. Don't want to do ceroc or whatever, Just want to go to a disco, but not one with young lasses who look as though they need to put a cardi on before they catch their death.

AIBU to think there is nowhere for me to go?

Marking place. I yearn for somewhere to go dancing to indie music in Brum, but am far, far too old for Snobs.

MarigoldSimpson · 15/02/2015 16:37

The bierkeller was inthe basement under Bogarts.

Is Snobs still there? Shock If so, any one been recently?

Snobs has relocated to smallbrook queensway opposite the Dome.
I'd like to check it out- maybe we should have a MN boogie meet up?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/02/2015 16:44

I spoke to somebody recently who had been to the new Snobs. He said the music was good but he felt old - he's 25!

ChicosGirl · 15/02/2015 16:58

You should go to snobs. You'll be grand once you find yr way upstairs. It's the same as the big room always was. Same music. Same dj. Some same older faces. Not just children honest

Won't feel like that when you first walk in tho!

ChicosGirl · 15/02/2015 16:59

I'm loads older than 25 btw

espressotogo · 15/02/2015 17:08

I had some fab nights at the bierkellar, we'd get a minibus and pile in with trays of cans of lager - also loved the powerhouse, bobby browns and Ronnie Scott's - them were the days - started going when I was 15 :)

OneInAMillionYou · 15/02/2015 17:24

Marigold, I went to Bogarts, with the obligatory Afghan wearing boyfriend!

Then I got more sophisticated, lol, and Faces became my second home, God I loved that place.

Like Sparkling this thread is making me so sad, I would love to go back, just for one night....

OneInAMillionYou · 15/02/2015 17:26

I had my 18th party at Pollyannas in Newhall St. All of my friends did the same, I think it was free for non-exclusive hire!

OneInAMillionYou · 15/02/2015 17:27

I think there was another Bierkeller, as well as the one under Bogarts, wasn't there one in Needless Alley?

OneInAMillionYou · 15/02/2015 17:28

I need to calm down, am in danger of spamming this thread :-)

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2015 17:36

I don't remember the Bierkeller being in a basement, so maybe there were two.

Just one night would be fab one. Just everything about that time was the best.

OneInAMillionYou · 15/02/2015 17:44

Sparkling if you get the time machine sorted I am WITH you! The music, the clothes, girls were naturally pretty....
I had a part time bar job at Sam Wellers. Loved Libertys as well as Faces, plus Barbarellas for live bands.

OneInAMillionYou · 15/02/2015 17:46

The Night Out was a cabaret place with pretensions of grandeur!
Scampi in a basket and Tony Christie on stage...

PrincessOfChina · 15/02/2015 17:50

I'm up for a MN night out to Snobs. But can it please be after April? I am happy being an over 30 in there, less so sober!

EduCated · 15/02/2015 17:54

Snobs does food now. It's just not right.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2015 17:58

If we are going back in time everything needs to be the same as it was One. Grin

Broad Street, well and Birmingham needs restoring to factory settings IYKWIM.

OneInAMillionYou · 15/02/2015 18:01

Yes, very true. Maybe we can do that Cosmic Ordering thing? I am sure that works!
I am down south now but get SO nostalgic for Bham.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2015 18:14

I moved about about an hour South One. Just far enough away to pretend nothing has changed. Until I actually went.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 15/02/2015 18:24

How about July?

Giraffeski · 15/02/2015 18:28

My sister used to work in Bobby Browns in the early 90s!

Powaqa · 15/02/2015 20:00

I used to work in Snobs in the 80's

Went to Edwards No 8, Boogies, Faces, Sam Wellers, kaleidoscope, Rum Runner, Opposite Lock, Top cats, Barberellas, The Dome

Loved them all

OneInAMillionYou · 15/02/2015 20:10

Powaqa, do you remember the DJ Steve Dennis in Faces? Played all the great jazz funk tracks. I think the other DJ was Paul James?
Just remind me where Kaleidoscope was, it's driving me crazy!

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 15/02/2015 20:10

Who's up for a little bham party night then?
