to think there are no discos anymore in Solihull / Birmingham

Used to love having a dance - used to go to the Tower Ballroom, Barbarellas etc.

Now I'm much, much older I'd still like to go somewhere for a bop. Don't want to do ceroc or whatever, Just want to go to a disco, but not one with young lasses who look as though they need to put a cardi on before they catch their death.

AIBU to think there is nowhere for me to go?

Suze me and DS had a walk by the canal the other day and saw the wonder that was the engine house Sad

Ah you lot have bought back lots of memories of the 90s for me. Miss Moneypennys, Dome and DomeII, Bobby Browns. Also remember The Institute and Ritzys for disco cheese. Knew of Libertys but never went as I was a scruffy student who spent most of my time in Doc Martins.
LOVED Mr Egg!

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 15/02/2015 01:22

I walked down John Bright street recently looks like a ghost town. Used to love Bizzy Lizzie's Kaleidoscope Old Orleans and DNA

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 15/02/2015 10:01

Just realised I dreamt I was at Sam
Wellers last night! Good times!!

AWholeLottaNosy · 15/02/2015 10:51

Ooh I went to the Rum Runner in the eighties! Sadly Duran Duran weren't there tho...:(

AWholeLottaNosy · 15/02/2015 10:52

Does anyone go to The Jam House? That looks good for a boogie...

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2015 10:55

Sad Whole

I remember when The Dome was 'The Night Out' Blush

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2015 10:57

I hadn't been into central Birmingham for years and I went to the NIA a few weeks ago. driving into Birmingham and it's all unrecognisable. Made me sad.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 15/02/2015 10:58

I've been to the jam house a couple of times it's good but a bit pretentious

meandmymuffintop · 15/02/2015 11:06

Ooh I went to the Rum Runner with Duran Duran!!!

And I was in the club bit that used to be in the Planet Earth video. They took that bit out now so that's my two seconds of minor fame over still available on YouTube tho

bruffin · 15/02/2015 11:08

Think they are just called night clubs now.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2015 11:10

When these threads come up I get a bit wistful and teary.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 15/02/2015 11:20

So do I sparkling I feel really sad my misspent youth is a distant memory along with most of my haunts :(

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2015 11:25

YY sharon. I want to go back to Birmingham in the 80s for one night and really appreciate it. My teenage years and all the nightclubs are long gone.

That drive into Birmingham reminded me that I have changed as much as Birmingham has.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 15/02/2015 11:29

A friend of mine with a 20 year old daughter was telling me how hard it is for young people to get in places now and that she had no chance of clubbing before 18 as the door staff have really cracked down on checking ID.
Kids now will never know the delight of getting ridiculously drunk aged 16 at Sam Wellers...

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2015 11:30

I had my 16th birthday party at Millionaires. Grin

Things really have changed.

MarigoldSimpson · 15/02/2015 15:35

Anyone go to Bogarts in an afghan coat, beads, badly permed hair and with a druggy boyfriend in tow?

MarigoldSimpson · 15/02/2015 15:37

BuzzardBird · 15/02/2015 15:44

The Fox at Stourton was the place to boogie on down on a Thursday night. I loved Pagoda Parktoo.

My dinosaur DH went to Bogarts I believe.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2015 15:45

Don't recall Bogarts at all.

We used to drive past the Night Out on the way to my Nan's. I always thought it looked fab. was it like a cabaret?

BuzzardBird · 15/02/2015 15:45

Only clubs in Broad Street now are the ones you get a fanjo in yer face :(

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2015 15:48

Anyone remember the Bierkeller (sp) had some vv boozy nights there. If we wanted to pretend to be posh-Hawkins Wine Bar.

Eww BB, Birmingham has gorn to the dogs.

BullshitS70 · 15/02/2015 16:00

How about The Assembly in Leamington Spa? They do a classics night once a month I think , and it plays 70s through to naughties

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 15/02/2015 16:03

Yes remember the bierkeller never went very much though as not a beer drinker.
There used to be a bar in china town called Heroes which did lovely 99p cocktails!!!
