To think the rich shouldn't have to pay for their children with SEN?

Katie price evidently went on BB and said her son with SEN has a taxi and escort paid for him (she says £1000 day)paid for him.

I say fair enough. Friend and DH say its not fair.

Its a 50/50 split.

Fwiw she should claim disability care of Harvey, i would in her shoes.

I think you, your friend and your DH should use advanced search.

If she's paid into the system and not gone to silly lengths to avoid taxes (so using ISA's and paying into a pension, fine - complex tax avoidance schemes thought up by consultants, not fine) then I think its fair enough.

That's the whole point of a welfare state isn't it? Some people gain financially by it, others don't.

I suppose if I were in her position I'd be looking at putting a good chunk of whats she saved into an appropriate charity. Maybe she does?

There have been several threads about this already. Yanbu as Harvey is entitled to the money.

If I had millions in the bank I would likely cover the cost myself as I wouldn't feel comfortable claiming when I could easily afford it.

That said I have no opinion negative or positive on KP, she's simply using a service which has been designed for that purpose!

I don't know about anybody else but every time one of these threads possible up or another benefit program or anything else that looks into the neighbours pot to check they haven't got more than them I feel really blue in my guts.

We've really had a number done on us really. . Like a big fighting pit with those in charge putting bets on.

i cant remember,i suppose he pays tax so would be in a similar position,so im guessing many didnt have a problem with him either

As I said on the other thread I completely agree I also agree that if she claims DLA for Harvey she has every right too my son is also disabled and goes to a special needs school and therefore gets transport its about Harveys needs not Katie's!

Oh for Christ sake. This has been done to death.

Katie Price is a taxpayer - but even more relevant, Harvey is profoundly disabled and HE has been allocated the travel.

End of story.

It's higher rate taxpayers like Katie Price who help pay for such services.

And before I get flamed, all taxpayers are important but it has been proved that the higher rate taxpayers are absolutely needed.

Therefore Katie's family has as much right as any other

harvey has very complex needs. she deserves all the help she can get.

I don't know much about how the DLA or other SEN services work, but as far as I can see she is being a responsible parent ensuring that he has access to everything he is entitled to under the law. If her finances go down the swanny for some reason/she gets run over by a bus with no will in place, her son will still get what he needs as a child with SEN. And once he reaches adulthood maybe the transition to whatever adult entitlements he could claim would be easier if he has a record of his needs going back through childhood.

The only thing that shocked me about the KP revelation was that it costs £1,000 a day. When did taxi drivers and SEN workers start getting paid that much? I've obviously been to the wrong career advisers over the years. Even £1,000 a week sounds a huge amount. I earn £1,000 a month.

That aside, when people need help then we should help them. I can't imagine how hard it is raising a child with the same needs as Harvey.

For - she's a tax payer and has paid in but more importantly he is genuinely disabled and entitled to the support.

Against - I think the rich (I.e millionaires) should not be fighting tooth and nail for benefits. if they apply for what they are entitled to and are granted it then great. If it was a matter of arguing the case and appealing constantly (in the way that some parents have to with their SEN kids who need TA time but can never get a statement) then it is obvious that the resources are very limited. The parents who shout the loudest wins. Taking that resource away from another.

I have no experience with benefits, SEN, etc but the above is just my opinion. She has done nothing wrong and she may have not had to fight hard to get what he recieves but if she did then I cant see how she didnt turn around and think that someone else may be more needy (in terms of not being able to fund it themselves, not because they are less abled)

I'm Sure I read the whole £1000 a day thing as being a throw away comment Form Katie about how much it would cost her to hire a car, driver and nurse
not that that's how much it actually cost for the council contract taxi and chaperone

I didn't read the original threads. I guess the tax paid would just about cover (if it even does!) the cost of taxis, education and medical care.

As for Cameron, funny he should use the very system his party is trying so hard to destroy. He's a hypocrite. But then we all know that.
