To think the rich shouldn't have to pay for their children with SEN?

Seems I'm alone here.

Katie price evidently went on BB and said her son with SEN has a taxi and escort paid for him (she says £1000 day)paid for him.

I say fair enough. Friend and DH say its not fair.

Happy bubble: it's not uncommon for taxi and escort to cost £56k/year

I haven't heard of this at all?

If it is the same bog standard care package that everyone gets then she is perfectly entitled to it. I highly doubt it is costing £1000 per day though.

She wouldn't have had to fight for it. A child is automatically entitled to transport to their nearest suitable school however much it costs. A local authority never provides more than they legally have to. When parents 'fight' for provision, they will never receive more than.

it won't be

If you have a child who needs a specialist school it doesn't matter how rich you are, the funding is provided by the child's local authority. You can not pay it yourself, the school won't accept the pupil.

Samcro · 08/02/2015 22:19

parents have to fight to get their child into the right school
that is not always the nearest one.

cestlavielife · 08/02/2015 22:25

East is right. You cannot privately fund most specialist schools.

Taxi and trained escort does not cost 1000 per day. Councils have contracts so it's cheaper. Tho eg a half hour journey for my son 16 miles with escort would cost £80 as a one off.
