Why isn't alcohol treated like a class A drug?

It makes people drunk and violent, many people become alcoholics/unable to function without drink, it causes liver failure and alcohol poisoning on some occasions.
Yet it's perfectly fine compared to stick drugs like MDMA (I'm not talking heroin or cocaine here) under the Class A category when they don't cause nearly as much harm.......

However there are frequently studies showing low levels of alcohol reduce stress and stress-related illnesses including heart disease and strokes, Alzheimer's, and even various birth defects. You can look these up online very easily and follow the references back to the source publications. I have read all of these research papers myself and the abstracts at least are available for free.

Sure. The problem is that many (most?) people do not consume alcohol in "low levels" as defined by this or any other report. I have no idea who these superhuman people are who drink 70 ml of red wine and then stop.

And you're quite right that there are no reports on the effects of illegal drugs, so the comparison isn't reasonable. It's not hard to imagine that some small dose of pot or E or opium or heroin might have similarly helpful medicinal qualities.
