I can't believe this is still a month away but already the BBC is full of it. Most of these are freelancers and I suspect a large amount do what they can to, legally, minimise their tax bill while asking PAYE people to donate.

OP posts:
Nomama · 07/02/2015 10:48

Oh... another target at last... or are these freelancers old ?

ghostyslovesheep · 07/02/2015 11:04

and ugly - are they uglier than you - is that the real issue?

Andrewofgg · 07/02/2015 11:05

We've all dreamed what we would do if we were as rich as Bill Gates only more so. Here's one of my fantasies:

ANDREW: How much did Comic Relief raise last year?
BBC Bod: £x million.
ANDREW: Here's five times x million, now give us three years off.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 07/02/2015 11:15

Well don't read about or watch Comic Relief if it riles you so much.

If it's legal and I could minimise my tax bill I'd do the same as them.

No one is forced to donate, PAYE or not.

partialderivative · 07/02/2015 11:16

I can't believe this is still a month away, and yet the moaning threads have started.

HappyAgainOneDay · 07/02/2015 11:47

It would be interesting to know exactly where the donated money goes - geographically, how much and for what purpose.

somewheresomehow · 07/02/2015 18:50

The trouble with comic relief is that you can't avoid it , it gets added everywhere like the flamin plague.
I would also like a more open approach as to where all the money goes
If the 'celebs' or whoever actually gave some of their money instead of urging nagging us to donate they might raise a lot more

BIWI · 07/02/2015 18:56

Oh look! Another lovely goady thread from the OP.

ilovesooty · 07/02/2015 19:07

Watch ITV then.

CobbOnn · 07/02/2015 19:12

You can very easily avoid it. Just don't watch BBC.

Wander what OP will be bitching about next. Had a little chuckle when I put table salt in my eggs this morning. I'm such a troglodyte.

Notrevealingmyidentity · 07/02/2015 19:31

Oh it's you again.

mrsmootoo · 09/02/2015 11:32

I was going to agree that you can always switch off on the night, but then I realised it's spreading out into other parts of the schedule - Comic Bake Off etc. Oh please, can't the slebs just donate some of their vast income, put their egos away and leave us alone. Maybe on the night there are kids watching who find it all funny, but are they really watching Bake Off?

DrDre · 09/02/2015 11:46

I hate Comic Relief, along with all the other BBC run charity stuff like Children in Need. I know it's for a good cause(s) but it is just naff. A bit of rubbish comedy, then a clip about some worthy cause, repeated ad infinitum. Yawn. I never watch it, but it still annoys me when the trailers / spin offs appear.
I do give to charity, just don't expect me to have anything to do with Comic Relief. Vanity project for celebs.

SoupDragon · 09/02/2015 11:49

A "vanity project" that raised £75m on the night in 2013.

DrDre · 09/02/2015 11:59

Sure it raises a lot of money. But I imagine a big reason some celebs get involved is because of their public image. I'd happily pay more on the license fee not to be subjected to all the hype around it.

SoupDragon · 09/02/2015 12:02

I don't give a shit why the celebs get involved.

JoanHickson · 09/02/2015 12:02

I don't rate the celeb begging either, donate your money and stop your tax avoidance. It's no different to chugger at the door or on the phone.

Nancy66 · 09/02/2015 12:05

just don't watch telly that night. it's pretty easily done. I do it every year. Only so many times I can watch Dawn French snogging some movie star or One Direction playing football with Africans

Icimoi · 09/02/2015 12:56

Oh, for goodness sake, how does it hurt anyone not to have exactly what they want on TV all day every day? And does it really matter what celebs are doing if it raises money? I suspect a lot of the people complaining have a very inflated idea of what celebs earn anyway.

BIWI · 09/02/2015 12:56

It wouldn't work without the celebs, though, would it? Who all give their time for free to Comic Relief.

Icimoi · 09/02/2015 12:57

Also, why "BBC luvvies"? In my experience most of those appearing aren't contracted to the BBC and are to be seen on commercial TV regularly. OP, have you been reading the BBC-hating Daily Mail (with its financial interests in commercial broadcasting that it keeps forgetting to mention) by any chance?

SoupDragon · 09/02/2015 13:05

I'd happily pay more license fee not to be subjected to football etc. as it is, I simply turn the TV over.

specialsubject · 09/02/2015 13:52

Comic Relief is quite nauseating and financially questionable.

fortunately there are DVDs and recorder boxes and it is easy to ignore.

DuelingFanjo · 09/02/2015 13:53
