anyone that uses table salt in food is lacking in taste

IMO the only place for table salt is in salt dough or to dye. Was just round a friends and she was seasoning a "home made" soup and poured a load in. I did my best not to raise my eyebrows but seriously even a bit of bog standard Maldon is cheap enough.

I have 6 different salts in the house, and to me table salt is not for food, no depth of flavour or hints and tones, just pure sodium!

I wouldn't try eating pure sodium if I were you!

plummyjam · 05/02/2015 18:06

My Pakistani mother in law uses table salt in her curries all the time. Should I boycott them? Or do they cancel eachother out?

Focusfocus · 05/02/2015 18:06

I've for 112 different salts at mine. Come over here.

jackstini · 05/02/2015 18:07

YABU - everyone has a different preference for salt
However people who add it before tasting ABU1

TheHermitCrab · 05/02/2015 18:08

Plenty of things I consume probably do me no good. Oh Lord.

dexter73 · 05/02/2015 18:10

TheHermitCrab - you are better off eating table salt than the pure sodium the op claims to use. I'm surprised she is still alive to post about it tbh!

Notrevealingmyidentity · 05/02/2015 18:11

I make my own from my tears. Anyone who doesn't isn't worth knowing in my opinion.

bigbluestars · 05/02/2015 18:11

I love salt- my OH and DD love it even more. Salt lifts the flavours of other foods.

dhdjdbrjrkbr- why is that? THe body uses pure sodium and chorine performing major metabolic and physiological processes. I doubt your body cares of the source.

AwkwardSquad · 05/02/2015 18:12

I don't think there's any religious slaughter involved in the production of pink Himalayan salt. But hey, what do I know, I only have four types of salt in the house.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/02/2015 18:12

Bloody hell, you don't half post some daft threads.

Tinned tomatoes will kill us all.
Table salt is naff.
Your sister listens to a GP instead of you.

What next?

ToysRLuv · 05/02/2015 18:13

Lo salt is lower in sodium. Not fizzy either (at least I've never noticed!).

Personally I don't look to fill my nutritional requirements with salt, so that aspect I really don't give a monkey's about..

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 05/02/2015 18:13

I am almost wetting myself with laughter at the thought of the OP eating pure sodium. Grin

Still, it should leave a nice neat hole in her tongue. She could stick it out and use her tongue as a sort of organic salt cellar. It would be an interesting party trick.

adsy · 05/02/2015 18:13

just to leave you with pure sodium and nothing else
Christ. Better make sure I don't get water anywhere near it then!!

AwkwardSquad · 05/02/2015 18:13

And even if there is, how do you know they don't pre-stun the salt before they slaughter it?

sanfairyanne · 05/02/2015 18:14

whats wrong with tinned tomatoes?

i dont even add salt to foodBlush

scarletforya · 05/02/2015 18:14

You do realise everyone had different tastebuds?

You sound like a 'supertaster'. Not everyone experiences the intensities flavours the same.

MistressDeeCee · 05/02/2015 18:14

Where's the OP gone, has the pure sodium sizzled her liver....?
I NEED to know about the 6 types of salt so I can display on shelf & waffle on knowledgeably to anyone mug enough to listen

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 05/02/2015 18:15

Salt just tastes of salt. They've done a survey and everything. There's no difference between pink Himalayan mumbo salt and Saxa as far as your taste buds are concerned.

That's why I only use salt distilled from unicorn tears. Its subtle, briny tang of sadness adds a deeply savoury note to my dinner party fayre.

I was taking about table salt re sodium if you read it properly.

That's not what my threads were and you know it.

just to leave you with pure sodium and nothing else

Awesome. I'm off to add some water to my table salt. May be back later...

adsy · 05/02/2015 18:19

I don't get the link. Was the woman blaspheming pure Guerande salt?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/02/2015 18:19

Was just round a friends and she was seasoning a "home made" soup and poured a load in. I did my best not to raise my eyebrows

I bet that took some effort Grin so you came onto mn and frothed here instead

JennieR60 · 05/02/2015 18:20

6 different types of salt what's that all about then? I have table salt but only on chips or when boiling an egg to stop them cracking.

6 types of salt???? Shock

ToysRLuv · 05/02/2015 18:24

Have you tried those salt licks that are given to horses, OP? That could be nice ground up in a salt mill. Although, personally, I would use a mortar and pestle made of Sardinian marble, as that gives salt the best, most authentically rustic flavour and texture.

MinceSpy · 05/02/2015 18:28

Horse salt lick and Unicorn tears lol! Pink Himalayan in the mincehouse but only because it was a Christmas gift.
