AIBU to want to throw my stupid hoover to the other side of the universe and tell it to stay there

I have hoover rage. Stupid plastic pile of electrical rubbish. I can't think of a single nice thing to say about it.

It hurts to hoover. I mean what kind of idiot designs a hoover that actually HURTS your hand? It is the opposite of ergonomic. My hand is throbbing.

It is so heavy you have to stop to pull it otherwise it just refuses to budge. And this is supposed to be a light model. It's like a tank.

The cord is so tight that if you reach the end of however much you've pulled out, it pulls the plug out of the wall. Before you hoover you have to pull the WHOLE DAMN FLEX out of the hoover otherwise it just unplugs itself. Which means you're trying to hoover a carpet covered in tangled flex.

The hoover jams on everything. It doesn't slip round the sofa or the door or the oven... no it just stops dead and glares at me. And if you pull it because you're so ANGRY at it jamming, it flips itself over and makes an 'I'm dying' noise.

The sucky tube is so short it makes my back ache. And I'm only 5'3". Which also means that it's too short to reach cobwebs.

And don't even get me started on how hard it it to pull the stupid plasticky tools off the end. People actually gave this hoover nice reviews on Amazon. They were all liars.

I gave it a good kicking before throwing it back in the cupboard.

Our builder (who is currently building us a nice new kitchen... lovely man) has a Henry. I might go and try it.

Buy a neato! It's a robot hoover that does it all for you. I haven't had to hoover since Christmas it's amazing !

Get a Miele, it's bloomin' marvellous, mine has different suction levels for different surfaces, a solid floor option and all sorts of different attachments, one of which is really good for skirting boards. As vacuuming goes, it's great.

I've heard cylinders are more ergonomic for short people while tall people will prefer uprights.

Wonder if there's any truth to that? I'm 5'2" and prefer cylinders...

I HATED our Hoover, and replaced it with a Henry.

the Henry picks up dirt and fluff...the Hoover failed to do this effectively...

I thought Henrys were hellish expensive, but I've just googled and they're nowhere near as much as I thought. Ooh I'm excited now. I can buy one as a kitchen-warming present. Oh hang on... we've spent all our money on the kitchen. I'll have to save up.

I used to work in a tile shop and once we had finished with the displays we would smash them off, pick up the larger bits and Henry took care of the rest. Shock
All of it! Without complaint! Builders won't use anything else.
I hope you love your Henry as much as I love mine. Grin

Will the household Henry do or it best to spend the extra £20 and get a commercial one? I guess they're much bigger (and won't fit in the cupboard).

My then 2 year old DD once chucked a pacifier at our vacuum cleaner before running away from it. She's afraid of it, I wonder if she was trying to attack it.

I use a Henry for work- brilliant, seemingly indestructible, work without a bag of you need it to and will pretty much eat anything you put in its path, but it's so heavy!

If you have carpeted stairs I don't recommend it at all, it's bulky so won't sit on one step while you Hoover another (or will, but precariously) and unless you empty it weekly it's just horrible to lug up and down.

I bought a dyson Dc35 handheld thing for home as it was a great purchase for me. Can just whip it out as and when needed, easy to store and empty and no where near as heavy and bulky as Henry.

I feel your pain OP-you could almost be describing my old hoover. It also hurt my hand and was so heavy I virtually gave up hoovering (any excuse) but my mum and dad bought me a beautiful new Dyson for Christmas and I luffs it-I even enjoy the hoovering! It's lightweight and nifty and pretty and purple! I couldn't have justified spending that much on a hoover though so am very grateful to ma and pa!

We have a dyson. Pisses me right off. Especially when it comes to hoovering the stairs.. It's hose is meant to reach the top step but as the suction is so strong all it wants to do is keep the hose tight and pull the Hoover up the stairs with me. Annoying.

I bought a Dyson DC59 Pet cordless doofer.

Best thing I've bought. Ever. Seriously. I have hoover love and hoover at least twice a week now compared to once every blue moon when I couldn't see the tv through the cat hair.......... Grin

I understood that you should always pull all of the flex out of a vacuum cleaner before you use it anyway, so that you don't end up with a hot coil of wire inside it that might eventually catch fire?

I used to have a Dyson. Hated it: all its brightly coloured plastic bits were cheap and nasty and either cracked or kept on falling off when they were meant to slot on. I also seemed to spend half my life coughing as I emptied it in the unavoidable clouds of dust.

I now have a Sebo. I love it, but since it was serviced it does tend to think its jammed itself and turn off. I just turn it straight back on again so its not a big problem. Also the bag is huge and takes WEEKS to fill, unlike the blasted Dyson. And the flex is looooooooong: I can do all the downstairs from ONE plug socket.
