Or possibly an ASBO?

The fucker keeps coming into our garden and beating up our cat. She's small and adorable and he's a big black and white thug. Last time was before Christmas and she had a few scratches but was okay; this time there's a massive bloody gash on her ear, so vet tomorrow. Poor little thing! She's our baby and we are v v protective of her.

It wouldn't be unreasonable to send the boys round, would it?

(To be fair, I suspect she does the cat equivalent of, "Get out of my garden! Get the fuck out right now or I'll... Oh, wait.")

YANBU - poor baby!

Pipbin · 31/01/2015 20:45

We had the exact same problem. The bastard cat put ours in the vets twice!
He also picks on next door's cat. We bought a very serious water pistol which is always loaded. Every time we saw him in the garden he got a soaking. He's not been back for a good few months now.

Amethyst24 · 31/01/2015 20:48

Water pistol is a good idea. We don't actually see him that often; he sneaks up on her at night. Pellet gun an even better idea.

Poor thing, he's obviously the local thug. We have one that picks on my cats, the bastard.

Charlotte3333 · 31/01/2015 20:49

Water pistol! Nerf do a really good super soaker that our cats hate. And I speak as the owner of 4 cats, so I'm not a hater by any means. Ours were fond of shitting in the neighbours drain, neighbour very politely asked what he could do about it, lent him the gun, cats moved 3 houses down and now shit in the drains of a horrible woman who once called my ES a prick because she nearly ran him over. Serves her right.

wintersdawn · 31/01/2015 20:50

Water gun with ribena works, they hate the sticky on them.

Amethyst24 · 31/01/2015 20:52

Ribena Grin Would that be terribly cruel? Love the idea of him going home with his white bits all stained and the owners going, "OMFG, he's BLEEDING!" Not, but our poor little cat is.

DP is extremely soft-hearted and is convinced the black and white cat just wants to make friends. Like hell - he is a cat victim-blamer.

Caronaim · 31/01/2015 20:55

He's only doing what comes naturally. I love cats, so do many people on my estate, and many of us own one, at least, but they are a bit overcrowded, by their terms. You can't get angry with them for responding to the situation human cat lovers put them in. I know it is upsetting

bonzo77 · 31/01/2015 20:56

My cat was your cat. Ended up with a big smelly abscess that needed to be drained under general anaesthetic and a drain left in for several days. After that we've locked her in during hours of darkness. No injuries since. Nor expensive or traumatic trips to the vet. She's so used to it now after over 4 years that she comes home at dusk. Any crosses her legs till the morning (no litter tray).

bonzo77 · 31/01/2015 20:56

Pellet gun an even better idea

I know this is in jest but my moggie had a pellet from an airgun in her rump (just at the top of her tail) possibly more inside. A couple of millimetres would've shattered her spine.

Water. Cold. Icy cold. Best way forward.
Horrible when they're bullied in their own garden Sad

SaucyJack · 31/01/2015 20:58

Do you know anyone who has a terrier you can borrow for a couple of weeks?

rinabean · 31/01/2015 21:00

My inlaws have a coward cat (she's massive and a good fighter - just a total coward) who got bullied so they keep her in at night. She's much happier like that, even though she whinges to go out sometimes

velocityofbeans · 31/01/2015 21:05

We had one that used to come inside to beat our cat up!! A jug of water over him every time we saw him by the back door taught him the error of his ways. We've told our ndns to spray ours with water too, especially if they catch them using their garden as a toilet. Seems to have worked so far.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/01/2015 21:06

when our cat got older (she was 17 when she died) there were loads of bully cats moving in.
One was trying to get in the cat door,, I kicked the door back to make a noise. The bugger attacked me through the cat flap Shock. His front half shot through the door and he went for me.

I was too shocked to react .

echt · 31/01/2015 21:07

OP are you me? Next door's big bruiser of black and white cat picks on our little cat, but actual damage yet. We hear the yowls and come running with the dog in tow (he's very protective of his best girl). Black and white git scarpers when he even sees me.

When is the fighting happening? It all happens in the evening or early morning for us, but she comes in at night. Just as well, as you can get fined where I live for letting your cat out after 9.00. at night and before 6.00 a.m. Worth keeping your little cat in at night.

lollygagger · 31/01/2015 21:14

Poor wee thing! our cat is a tiny, timid thing and the black and white cat with no tail across the back is always terrorising her. He will come in the cat flap and eat all her food (expensive prescription hills brandAngry ) We now keep the cat flap closed and let her out through the door only when we're home.
The last straw was when she came home with a massive gash on her back leg after high tailing it into the house with the fucker in hot pursuit. DS and I have named him scarface claw.
The downside is having to clean the litter tray constantly but it's worth it to save on vet's bills... and to keep her safe of course Grin.
I'm liking the ribena in the water pistol idea. Must try it!

hamptoncourt · 31/01/2015 21:15

I have had to shell out nearly £1000 on vets bills because HamptonCat gets duffed up by NDN cat.

I have sprayed it with a water pistol but it still gets him Sad

It seems to happen day or night and my cat would rather be dead than be a housecat. He nearly went insane when he had to stay in after the last operation he had after being attacked. He honestly became depressed it was awful.

If anyone knows how to stop NDN cat beating up mine please let me know!!

lollygagger · 31/01/2015 21:16

What is it with big black and white cats?!?

There was a gigantic old ginger tom that hung around (we named him elvis) but he was lovely and they seemed to get on.

Amethyst24 · 31/01/2015 21:17

Thanks everyone. I was obviously totally joking about the pellet gun - I'd never hurt an animal.

The timing is completely random. He twatted her into a big pile of fox poo once in the middle of the morning Sad

She is a timid little soul and doesn't venture out much, so we try and encourage her to go out whenever she fancies - which is a lot less often in winter. She has a litter tray so no need to go out at night unless she wants to.

Hassled · 31/01/2015 21:22

We have a black and white cat who is too young and thick to be the neighbourhood thug just yet, but is psycho enough that I know he will end up being the cat other cat owners hate. He already picks on his housemates. I struggle to like him.

So if anyone has a top tip for making a cat become nice, please share - otherwise I'm going to have to work out some sort of CBT programme for him myself.

Amethyst24 · 31/01/2015 21:24

Feliway, Feliway and a bit more Feliway, Hassled. And one litter tray per cat, plus one extra, and separate food, water, sleeping places etc. Key is for them not to have to compete for resources.

OP posts:
Hassled · 31/01/2015 21:26

I used Feliway to calm down one of the other put-upon cats :o. Will try it again though if it helps Psycho Cat not grow up into a felon - thanks.

Amethyst24 · 31/01/2015 21:29

Plug-in diffusers are the way forward, Hassled - they cost a fortune but they do work, I'm told.

Black and white cats are bastards.

OP posts:
whothehellknows · 31/01/2015 21:36

Hassled-- Neutering at the right time helps keep the aggression down, Feliway can help keep them chilled. (and I'm not above a water pistol to be used during aggressive episodes.)

I would definitely invest in a water pistol (or more than one) to use for aggressive neighbor cats. Also, (although it may sound gross) sprinkle your cat's used litter around the perimeter of the garden to reinforce that it's her territory.

If it's stray and an intact tom, then I'd trap, neuter and release. (Actually, I'd probably do that even if it had an owner-I don't have a lot of patience for people who let unneutered cats roam about causing chaos and damage to other people's pets)

If it looks like a pet that would have owners, you can try to track them down and ask them to keep ASBO cat indoors- but you can never tell how effective that will be.
