Or possibly an ASBO?

The fucker keeps coming into our garden and beating up our cat. She's small and adorable and he's a big black and white thug. Last time was before Christmas and she had a few scratches but was okay; this time there's a massive bloody gash on her ear, so vet tomorrow. Poor little thing! She's our baby and we are v v protective of her.

It wouldn't be unreasonable to send the boys round, would it?

(To be fair, I suspect she does the cat equivalent of, "Get out of my garden! Get the fuck out right now or I'll... Oh, wait.")

Sprinkling litter is a great idea - I guess because she has a litter tray in the first place her territorial scent isn't as strong as it might be.

B&W cat is deffo not a stray - he is glossy and bursting with health, the fucker.

Never mind a waterpistol - get a supersoaker. Use it every time you see the other cat in your garden, whether yours is getting attacked or not.

CeCeLaine · 01/02/2015 08:23

We had a cat turn up here a couple of years ago and terrorised all the local neighbourhood cats. He claimed my garden as his own, constantly tried to get in my house for food and would just have to glimpse another cat and he would fly straight at them. It turned out he had been doing the same to several of the neighbours. Nobody knew who he belonged to or where he'd come from.
I tried the water pistol but he would always dodge it and kept coming back.
I then resorted to keeping a huge jug of water by the door and as soon as I saw him in my garden I soaked the bugger. It took 3 soakings and I never saw him again.

Also did this in my old house where I had 2 tom cats trying to take over my garden and house. I used the hose on those two.

you have to soak them to have any effect.

There's a nasty black-and-white cat lives at the end of our street and picks on Redheadcat2 all the time. I would cheerfully put my boot up its bum and send it into orbit! It is a nasty piece of work. There is another ginormously fat long-haired tabby that needs sorting out as well! Redheadcat1 doesn't really roam very much and is bigger than cat2, so he is less bothered, but poor little cat2 is a very unassuming moggy and bears the brunt as he wanders more.

Whippet81 · 01/02/2015 09:52

We have a big bully cat over the road - my poor dog (all 6 stone of him) looked under my car the other morning (on my drive) and it came at him and scratched him around the face - it could have had his eye. I was furious and have said any vets bills and I'm going over to the neighbours.

I have never quite understood all the laws on dogs and keeping them under control and picking up after them but you can have a cat - turf it out all day and it can terrorise anyone and anything and shit anywhere it likes!

I don't dislike them at all but I'm getting really annoyed at having to scout out the neighbourhood before taking my well behaved dog out on his lead to avoid attack!

DisappointedOne · 01/02/2015 10:02

I fucking hate cats.

WeirdCatLady · 01/02/2015 10:03

2 doors up lives our neighbourhood bastard bully cat, he's black and white too. He has cornered poor little WeirdCat several times now. I've chased him off before but it didn't stop him, so the last time I heard her screaming (poor baby), I went out with weirddog in tow (I held his collar so bully cat was perfectly safe). Bully cat wasn't so keen on attacking poor weirdcat while her seven stone big brother was there. Haven't had any problems since.

KahloSherman · 01/02/2015 10:05

Do you know who the thug belongs to? In dog-world etiquette dictates that you pay for the damage if your dog attacks another and it needs treatment. In fact, if you have decent pet insurance it will cover damages if someone syes you, for example. Does the same not apply in cat-world? The owner may sort the problem if they keep having to pay your vet bills.

kwerty · 01/02/2015 10:20

Local Thug-cat (black and white) used to come in at night, through the cat flap, eat its fill and spray liberally round the kitchen and living room. My two - docile neutered ginger tom and his pretty tabby half-sister - nervously stood by and let him do it.
Intruder-cat sort of belonged to neighbours who fed it, but it was quite feral and they couldn't handle it as it was so fierce. We eventually trapped it in our shed and called cat's protection who took it away to be neutered.

HighwayDragon · 01/02/2015 10:26

My normally lovely black and white cat is a bit of a thug Sad

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/02/2015 10:36

My friends B&W cat used to be a bit of prick, he used to bully her other cats if he didnt get what he wanted.

He's mellowed now he's getting older, but he's still a grumpy prick though.

Theres a tabby bogbrush that comes into my garden like he owns it, fucking scarpers when I open the door though, coward.

GertyD · 01/02/2015 14:24

I have a big massive black and white cat. He beats up everything - other cats, dogs, foxes and anything else that dares cross his path. but he is lovely with people.

WitchWay · 01/02/2015 20:17

My NDN has a black & white cat which likes to beat up one of mine Sad Angry

There's a big thug of a tabby along the road that goes for the there - we call it "The Tailbiter" after a nasty incident Hmm

Marylou2 · 01/02/2015 20:27

YANBU.I feel your pain.DH got the horror of a cat next door to us with the jet washer! It had bullied our cats for years. We don't see it much any more.Funny that....Grin

HarrietSchulenberg · 01/02/2015 20:35

Having been the owner of a thug cat (v handsome silver tabby) I can recommend depositing large receptacles of water over them as a good deterrent. Mine used to sneak back soaked from 3 doors down, where his victims lived, and would stay indoors for the rest of the night. Took a while but eventually he gave up on his territorial expansion plan and took to just defending his own garden.

I wouldn't recommend the terrier that someone upthread suggested. TheCatOfTheSchulenbergs terrified MIL's West Highland terrier to the point that he wouldn't come in the house.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/02/2015 20:41

Cats are like furry dictators trying to conquer other territories, tis a shame they have such an obvious weakness.

Amethyst24 · 01/02/2015 20:47

I am ordering a supersoaker as we speak. Cat is sleeping on her favourite cushion, having demanded we spend most of the day in bed cuddling her. Vet says she will live but she says it's touch and go.

I scare other cats from our garden whenever I can.It makes me feel mean, but its my cats territory.
He's old and timid, and deserves me to watch his back, after years of loyal companionship.

cate16 · 01/02/2015 20:55

My cats become a house cat due to the black and white thug next door but one :(

WowWowSauce · 01/02/2015 21:28

My big fat black and white cat is a softy. The kitten has been able to beat him up since she was two months old.
We used to get a huge sleekit black tom climbing through the windows to beat him up and steal his food. It wasn't so keen after a soaking though.

Nicola19 · 01/02/2015 21:46

I really think you should keep yours in at night by locking the flap
If the flap is open they just have such an instinct for going out and checking their territory.

We put up newspaper on our basement windows because nasty cat kept prowling around close to the glass. If my boy saw it he would be so anxious.
