To dislike the warburtons thins advert

Aibu to feel that there really was no reason to take the piss out of the "fat" woman in the office who the man in the advert no longer has to speak to now he is slim and surrounded by the slim office hotties? I know it's just an ad but it's so unnecessarily unpleasant.

They are selling it as a lower calorie alternative to normal bread sandwiches so imo yes there is a diet/weight loss message to their product.

Twinkle - I said I dislike the advert - not really indignation just feel it's unnecessarily unpleasant.

You're right maddening they do appear to be marketing this as a lower calorie bread product on their website, but the adverts don't seem to mention this at all.

I can't stand Warburtons bread so wouldn't be buying anyway. Strangely their crumpets are lovely, so I'm a bit reluctant to totally boycott them.

TwinkieTwinkle · 02/02/2015 09:24

Comparing it to Page 3? Wow...

Pipbin · 02/02/2015 09:33

Not understanding how this advert is insulting? Wow.......

Just a warning - I bought these when they first came out a couple of years ago and gave them to DS in his packed lunch on the last day of term. We forgot to bring his lunch box home with us so it stayed at school for two weeks over Easter - it was quite a warm Easter too. When I took it home two weeks later expecting whatever was left in it to have grown legs and walk out of the door I found that ds hadn't eaten any of the thins and the only bit that was mouldy was the cheese, the 'bread' was perfectly fine and actually looked exactly the same as when it had come out of the packaging when I made it. God knows what they must put in it to preserve the bread and I'm never buying it again!

Oh good I'm glad I found this thread.

I thought it might only be me.

The pretty women only wanted his sandwich. When they had their own sandwiches they didn't want him, but the larger frumpy lonely woman did. He was disgusted.

That's pretty much what the advert was saying to me.

Pipbin · 02/02/2015 12:35

I'm not comparing it to page 3 as such but it is this low level stuff that undermines how people see themselves and others, especially women.

King1982 · 02/02/2015 13:14

Ian Beale looking motherfucker, flouncing about with his sandwich. It's enough to make you want to kick the TV in.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 02/02/2015 13:21

It's crap. It's also part of a bit of a trend for adverts where men can't really 'do' most food, so they use shepherd's pie mix/branston pickle/warbutons bread, which I don't like.

I see it as all the office hotties love him because of his trendy bread, and he's embarrassed that the older, plainer woman wants him to sit with her. Didn't one of their other ads end 'there's no doubt about it, Mr W.... I've still got it!'? It's horrid, really.

Love the argument that 'it's not because she's fat it's because she's old and not as pretty'! Er, sort of the same issue, no?

drudgetrudy · 02/02/2015 13:24

Warburtons have a facebook page and you can send in comments if you want to.

The advert is a bit insulting to the bloke too-but more so to the woman -and very old fashioned.

firesidechat · 02/02/2015 14:02

The student advert is also cringeworthy.
