Think I might have had the most ridiculous delivery just happen. Ordered kitchen worktops from a well known kitchen company. Driver came to the door and asked if it was just me, yeah me and my children.
He said I wouldn't be able to lift a worktop would i ? Well no, surely that's what I've paid delivery for ?
He told me he was on his own and can't get the worktop out of the van alone and into the house so needs someone to help him !
Explained that at no point was I told someone would have to help their drivers get the items out of their van.
He hummed and hawed then told me he'd come back this afternoon with another guy to deliver it.

I really couldn't believe it, just hope they do come back later. The place is only at the bottom of the road and it was a standard delivery fee regardless of the distance from the showroom/warehouse so not like it was a fiver to deliver !
Anyone else had this, expected to go into a delivery van and deliver your own goods to your house ?

My DD ordered wet wall , guy arrived , couldn't carry on his own.

She lives on the top floor of an old warehouse, if wouldn't fit in the lift so she had to help carry it up 4 flights of stairs . ( two trips! ) . That, or the day of work would have been wasted and the plumber delayed in starting the bathroom.

Guy said they won't put more than I person on the van.
She emailed and phoned both the supplier and the delivery company more than once , neither got back to her !!!!

This happened to me when I got all my Mothercare furniture delivered. Delivery man looked at my 37 week pregnant belly and said 'oh you're probably not going to be able to help me are you'? Eh, no genius. What are the odds you're going to be delivering baby furniture to a (SHOCK HORROR) pregnant woman...?

Came back later with another guy but it meant they didn't hit the preorganised delivery slot meaning I had to stay in all afternoon too. Grr...

It seems to vary from company to company. I had a worktop delivered a few years back and it was only the driver. It was so heavy and I'm not the biggest or strongest woman around, so I couldn't help him. When I ordered it there was no mention that he'd be alone and would need help and I thought it was bad of the company not to stipulate this. They just assumed there would be someone strong to help I suppose Hmm. Thankfully I managed to rope in a couple of neighbours, but it was annoying.

More recently I had a fridge-freezer delivered and the company sent 2 men, who brought it into the house (on a trolley) and even unpacked it for me.

Totally bizarre! There must be plenty of homes which can't rustle up someone to lug heavy items up the road and act as a second delivery person! Wouldn't work here either where DH is under medical orders not to lift stuff and I have osteo-arthritis in my spine.

We've never had a problem like this though. Every item that's been too heavy for one person to carry to the house has been sent out with two delivery people. That's standard practice for John Lewis but the same happened when we bought a new bed from Argos.

Absolutely ridiculous that the company you bought this worktop from didn't take the weight of it into account. Apart from anything else, you don't have the insurance to cover yourself if anything went wrong.

Presumably it took two people to get it into the van so logic dictates they should have sent two people to get it out.
