Not a stealth boast but ds is quite able in one subject. Just ordinary in the rest. Anyway the school is running extra lessons to get people up to level 4 or 5. However, they are not doing anything to prepare students to sit a level 6 paper. He is already bored in class as they sre rightly covering level 5 work.
Aibu to be disappointed

Knitted that grammar school report depresses me beyond words. I disagree so fundamentally with the concept of the 11+ that the Sutton Trust, who I normally respect, trying to find ways to make it work instead of just abolishing the whole thing is just grim.

With the parents, I think 'aim and purpose' should be replaced with 'resources'. Rich parents have more resources to support their children's education.

KnittedJimmyChoos · 30/01/2015 14:10

Ahhh I see Noble....I understand context of your other comments now. well as report says grammars are here to stay and state primaries must make sure pupils with parents who do not support them are disadvantaged.

noblegiraffe · 30/01/2015 14:20

knitted look up the King Solomon Academy in London. 95% A*-C inc English and Maths, 75% Ebacc, 58% free school meals.

That's how you create social mobility, not bullshit selection procedures that are notoriously inaccurate.

Mumtotherescueagain · 30/01/2015 14:24

YABU. Level 4 is where they should be, Level 5 is above average. DO NOT put pressure on your able child by demanding he is 'stretched'. Boredom can be alleviated by other means.

That's how you create social mobility thats one way you create social mobilty and primary schools being forced to give support and encouragement to pupils with access to gramma is another

Level 6 for genuinely gifted? I would expect a genuinely gifted 10/11 year old to be well past level 6........

Hakluyt · 30/01/2015 15:24

Nobody genuinely the grammar school system is a driver of social mobility, do they?

No I dont think they do Hack that would be very narrow minded and blinkered.

However primary schools with no support for potential grammar candidates are not supporting social mobility either. They are stopping children who have no parental support from even entering. Thats holding them back.

angeleyes72 · 30/01/2015 18:34

well according to him he is able to complete all the work in class and still have time to chat. Not the best use of his time and
probably disruptive to rest of class. I have asked him to ask for more work but sometimes he finishes that too. Incidently this is a big 5 form middle school so teaching level 6 shouldn't be a problem.
