Keep hearing it more and more. Where did it come from and is it not really 'my mistake'!?
I hate it , feel angry even just writing this. It's horrible.

It's a dreadful saying. I did hear it used on an older American film the other day though, Clueless (mid 90s) so it's not as new as I thought it was.

EBearhug · 29/01/2015 02:11

minginjean, it makes much more sense to eat his phone than yours.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 29/01/2015 02:29

Don't even know what it means.

I don't mind American's using it but "awesome" in an English accent really boils my piss..It just doesn't work!

I've never heard anyone say your reaction to "awesome" but I hope I never do. It's far worse than the innocuous awesome.

MyGastIsTinselled · 29/01/2015 07:30

I came on this thread to add 'cray cray' but was beaten to it. May I add inbox as in 'I'll inbox you' and 'totes amazeballs' (either individually or together)

BreeVDKamp · 29/01/2015 07:41

People still say this??? It's what all the cool kids said when I was doing my A Levels (8-ish years ago!!!). Drove me mad even back then!!

Stinkle · 29/01/2015 08:33

I don't mind K for OK, but I really don't get KK

Cornedbeefpie · 29/01/2015 08:41

Aargh "to die for". Like the PP it drives me mad. I agree with DH on this - your family and your country are possibly the only things to die for, not cake or wine!

bigbluestars · 29/01/2015 08:47

"Any way, shape or form" I cringe when I hear that.

"Can I get"? Is so annoying. Ally McBeal is someone I always wanted to shoulder barge over a low wall.

airforsharon · 29/01/2015 10:35

'Re-gifting' and 'going forward' are two that make me steam. AND I really dislike the constant use of 'like', which (mainly under 18s) have been doing for ages and show no signs of stopping....My 8 yo dd has just started doing it....'so I was like, I hate that and she was like, really? etc...' I correct her every single time Grin

And yes Ally McBeal is someone I always wanted to shoulder barge over a low wall. Well put.

airforsharon · 29/01/2015 10:36

stray brackets there, my bad

squoosh · 29/01/2015 10:37

'i don't mind "my bad" but I loathe "Can I get a...." When asking for complex coffee orders in Starbucks/Costa.'

That doesn't even make sense. How can 'can I get' be too American but 'my bad' isn't?

Micah · 29/01/2015 11:09

"Can I get" was in common use in Scotland 20 odd years ago -"can I get a tin of coke?"

"Swear down" is northeastern, again common over 20 years ago.

"My bad" was buffy, again 15+ years ago.

Oh these modern young things with their hip terminology ;)

"Gifted" though, as in "I gifted her those earrings" makes me wanti strangle the "gifter"

helpmekeepstrong · 29/01/2015 13:12

When we lived in a small, sleepy provincial town in the UK, a teenage boy told my DSS 'I cut you blud'. It had to be explained to me and I do not condone that my DSS smartly punched him. No cutting needed though.

TurquoiseDress · 29/01/2015 13:22

YANBU!

I have really grown to hate the expression "my bad"!
It's like someone saying an insincere apology.

Also hate "step up to the plate"- my evil bitch of a manager in an old job used to say this all the time to our team. I

MyGastIsTinselled · 29/01/2015 13:27

What's 'I cut you blud'?

Ainmnua · 29/01/2015 13:31

I know someone who says "my bag" instead of "my bad" and she's not trying to be ironic. Grin

netty7070 · 29/01/2015 13:31

I don't like 'oftentimes' instead of often. I've heard that recently. Splee.

sourdrawers · 29/01/2015 14:08

"I gifted her those earrings" aaahhh that's really awful. I'm off to punch the next person I see...
