Keep hearing it more and more. Where did it come from and is it not really 'my mistake'!?
I hate it , feel angry even just writing this. It's horrible.

muffins, isn't it still slang, though? In press conferences, White House spokespeople don't say it.

squoosh · 28/01/2015 15:33

Oh yes, a friend of mine has started referring to things as 'cray cray'. I give her stern look.

shovetheholly · 28/01/2015 15:33

small voice I really like it! But only in the right context

It sort of allows an apology to be made for something minor in a way that's not grovelling, and that lets things move on really quickly.

It's not appropriate for big stuff, though!

Wailywailywaily · 28/01/2015 15:37

I've heard it a few times recently, it is just so lacking in sincerity. My bad = but I'm so cute you'll forgive me

Stinkle · 28/01/2015 15:38

Oh god, yes to 'cray cray'

And DD has started up with 'swear down'

Basically, every other word that comes out of her mouth makes me want to poke her in the eye Grin. 5 minutes on her Facebook page makes me want to stab my own eyes out

squoosh · 28/01/2015 15:40

I've never heard 'swear down' before. With the risk of sounding like a primary school teacher how would you use that phrase in a sentence?

What on earth does "cray cray" mean?

I hate "my bad" as well. Your bad what? It makes no sense. Is it short for something? DH says it just to annoy me.

squoosh · 28/01/2015 15:41

'cray cray' means 'crazy'.

Fairylea · 28/01/2015 15:43

I absolutely hate it. Along with "smashed it" and "nailed it" and all those other Americanisms. And I'm half American!

Stinkle · 28/01/2015 15:44

Swear down means I promise as far as I can make out.

As in "I'm never going to speak to her again, swear down"

LinghamStyle · 28/01/2015 15:45

I haven't heard of "the ask" but I was once told by my boss that something I requested was "a big ask" and I slightly misheard him, resulting in this face Angry

OnlyLovers · 28/01/2015 15:45

I LOATHE IT!

I hate 'I'm good' instead of 'I'm well' and 'You did good' for 'You did well' etc you illiterate fuckers.

Don't mind 'epic' or 'legend' but am heartily sick of anything that's a bit good being described as 'extraordinary'.

dotty2 · 28/01/2015 15:45

I was walking through Dalston last year when a hipster with a beard said 'my bad' to me when we did one of those little pavement dances where you don't know whether to move to the left or right to let someone past. I wanted to run after him and get him to clarify whether he was genuinely sorry or being ironic, I couldn't quite believe I'd heard someone say it for real! (And especially someone conforming so dramatically to stereotype!)

bumbleymummy · 28/01/2015 15:45

I hate 'touch base' as in "Let's touch base on that next week".

flowery · 28/01/2015 15:48

DH works for an American firm so he comes out with some corkers. He talks about "reaching out" to people rather than emailing them/ringing them/giving them a shout/getting in touch, like normal people do.

sourdrawers · 28/01/2015 15:49

I've never heard it, but I'm quite prepared to hate it.

I don't mind American's using it but "awesome" in an English accent really boils my piss..It just doesn't work!

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 28/01/2015 15:49

My bad is just the modern version of mea culpa surely? I will reserve my fury for the business jargon that seems to infiltrate everywhere.
"Oh I sourced the best avocados the other day" No, you bloody found avocados in Sainsburys and bought them - you did NOT source them Angry

squoosh · 28/01/2015 15:49

"I'm never going to speak to her again, swear down"

Thanks Stinkle, can absolutely imagine a 14 year old stating that! Grin

LongWayRound · 28/01/2015 15:53

Not sure if this belongs here as well (because it's written not spoken) but I hate it when people sign off emails with "Best".

FrankelandFilly · 28/01/2015 15:55

"My bad" is not a new thing though, I remember it being used a lot on Buffy 15/20 years ago

OnlyLovers · 28/01/2015 15:56

'reaching out' is so stupid. Angry

I say 'awesome' a fair bit. Blush In my defence I like to think I use it knowingly.

sourdrawers · 28/01/2015 15:57

I'm sooooo with OnlyLovers there. I truly hate "I'm good" with a passion too. .......You see what I did there?

bumbleymummy · 28/01/2015 15:57

I think it was in Clueless too Frankel. (I may have watched it on Netflix the other night Blush )

natwebb79 · 28/01/2015 16:01

YANBU. My nearly 40 year old DSS says it. Mind you she also thinks her DS' teen friends fancy her because she plays Radio 1 in the car. Grin
