to keep using vests with poo stains for DD?

DD (17 months) had a poo explosion this morning. Couldn't face dealing with the tights so they've gone in the bin. The vest has been washed but still has unattractive brown stains around the legs. So AIBU to keep dressing her in this vest. No-one can see the stains when she's dressed. Feels wrong but surely it's okay if it's been washed.

I would still use it

HoraceCope · 28/01/2015 10:55

if you have plenty of others, then no, you never know when you might have to undress her in public Blush

MrsPeterQuill · 28/01/2015 10:56

Yes YABU

stargirl1701 · 28/01/2015 10:56

Hang it on the line. I use cloth nappies. No poo stain can withstand the sun - even in the winter!

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 28/01/2015 10:56

I'd say as long as it's totally clean (as in, nothing there that will irritate her legs) there shouldn't be too much of an issue, but is using something like Vanish an option? Just to try and shift the stains?

Aeroflotgirl · 28/01/2015 10:56

No you can get cheapies from Asda or Tesco. I would not personally.

Seeline · 28/01/2015 10:57

I used to soak mine in Milton - that got rid of the worst of the stains. Any that were obviously marked I kept as spares - always useful Grin

Artandco · 28/01/2015 10:57

Use vanish and hang in the sun in future. No stains.

HoraceCope · 28/01/2015 10:57

the tights I would have saved personally, if they are not stained. but not a white vest,
wash it and then see?

SoupDragon · 28/01/2015 10:58

As others have said, sunlight works wonders! However, looking out of my window right now you may have to wait. :)

havemercy · 28/01/2015 10:59

Ewwww. I agree with Aeroflotgirl, put her in cheapies rather than poo stained.

Awakeagain · 28/01/2015 11:00

Depends really how bad it is but I would probably use or have it as a spare in my bag

LovesBooks · 28/01/2015 11:02

I wouldn't. I would try my best to get the stains out or buy new ones. They are not expensive to replace

wishmiplass · 28/01/2015 11:07

They are expensive if you have fuck all and a frequently exploding baby.

I would continue to use. As you said, they're not on show.

Agree Milton sterilising fluid very good for stains, particularly if you don't have access to outside drying facilities.

wishmiplass · 28/01/2015 11:08

... and all that lovely sunshine we get so much of.

AnythingNotEverything · 28/01/2015 11:11

It's discoloured, not dirty. YANBU.

SoupDragon · 28/01/2015 11:12

Even hanging them inside by a window on an ordinary day helps get rid of stains.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 28/01/2015 11:14

I used to use these vest for days in or for messy play.

Pointlessfan · 28/01/2015 11:17

I find that soaking them in cold water before washing them seems to stop staining. I would use it, it will be under clothes anyway and I couldn't be so wasteful as to chuck it.

ZebraLovesKnitting · 28/01/2015 11:17

I'd still use it. DD had explosive poos pretty much every day, if I threw away every stained vest I'd spend a small fortune.

Next time you have a poo-stained vest try soaking it in some Napisan straight away, it's great stuff. For a vest that is stained, in the past I've used a bleach kitchen spray or Cillit Bang (was an act of desperation but it worked!) sprayed on, left for a few mins, then rinsed & washed.

ByTheWishingWell · 28/01/2015 11:18

I kept stained ones and just used them for messy play and dinners.

fluffymouse · 28/01/2015 11:22

Have you got a bucket with napisan for soaking? I found that would stop most stains.

I would still use a stained vest though, babies don't care, and don't most of their clothes get stained in some way?

yanbu. They might still come out. We rub fairy liquid on the stains and leave it to soak in hot water for a few hours and they usually come out again in another wash anyway!

Metalguru · 28/01/2015 11:25

Keep them for days when you have run out, or know they won't be seen like period pants
