Yes. I admit it. My name is Humph and I am hooked on crap TV.

Anyway. I have a couple of questions about American weddings.

  1. Why do so many brides have 2 dresses? The ceremony dress and another one for the party.
  1. What is with the weird shape? Sort of tight fitted from boob to mid-thigh then poofy on the bottom.
  1. Does Randy have work done every week? His face is morphing into a Ken replica.

Oh my God, I thought I was the only one hooked on this show!

I had a baby 11 weeks ago......which means I've spent most of the past 11 weeks watching SYTTD and IFTG in my pyjamas. Blush

Does Pnina actually do anything other than waft around waiting to be asked for discounts? Does she live in the walls??

My absolute favourite brides are the Middle Eastern ones, who have 700 guests and spend $16,000 on the most enormous dress in the showroom.

I do have a soft spot for the Atlanta one, not because of Monty but because of Lori, who's all sassy. And there's always brides who are like, 19 and virgins and who say "Oh Mah Gosh" a lot. And they bring their MeeMaw who prides herself on "saying whuts whut" and basically insults the dresses up down and sideways.

Annarose2014 · 26/01/2015 23:47

That see-through bodice dress makes baby Jesus cry.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 26/01/2015 23:55

I grew up in Georgia. I do love Lori. She is a real steel magnolia.

mathanxiety · 27/01/2015 02:23

My hero is Vera, and I love some of the mothers and aunts, folding their arms and hoiking their bosoms..
'I think it's a sacred ceremony and 'sex kitten' isn't what fits that' Smile

The fried voices make my teeth itch though.

steff13 · 27/01/2015 02:57

Love the show, but I wish they would feature fewer of the Pnina "fairy stripper" dresses.

DeliciousIrony · 27/01/2015 11:19

I love Vera too Grin I was always a bit sad when certain staff members just seemed to disappear and you never found out why.

I've seen a bit of the Atlanta Bridesmaids versions...much less glamorous, I think their selection of BM dresses is pretty hideous. I remember seeing one where there were about 8 or so bridesmaids, and the bride was shouting at them that they had agreed to be BMs and as such would buy (themselves) any dress she wanted, and if she wanted $500 dresses then so be it. Imagine the MN thread about that...

Annarose2014 · 27/01/2015 11:21

There's always a bridesmaid who wants a hoochie dress.

To quote one of the brides "It ain't about you, bitch!"

Bue · 27/01/2015 12:02

Something Borrowed is brilliant! The new dresses are generally much nicer and more flattering than on the other shows. I also love the random nature of Kelly's borrowed designs. Sometimes she hits it out of the ballpark and sometimes I am left thinking WTF?

Agree Randy makes SYTTD. The thing I find boring about the show is that I feel an overwhelming sense of deja vu with every second gown. Like didn't they put the last bride in this?? They all look SO similar. Strapless, sweetheart neckline, shiny fabric, crystals, drop waist, pickups all over the skirt. Doesn't matter what size or shape you are, you all get the same dress. Ugh ugh ugh. The Pnina gowns in particular are just hysterical.

queenoftheknight · 27/01/2015 13:10

Oh thank heavens it isn't just me! My DD and I can watch these programmes, back to back, for hours. :) We LOVE Rairndy!

And I thought there was something wrong with me!

Go on, admit it, you'd like to at least TRY a Pnina?

MummyBeerest · 27/01/2015 13:23

I love this trashy show. I used to work in a banquet hall so served at many weddings, and I love the craziness of brides. Bridezillas are hilarious.

I think if you say "Pnina" 3 times she just appears, like Bloody Mary.

I don't think fiances should be there. At all. Say goodbye to making any decisions in your marriage if he's the one who picks your dress out.

bubalou · 27/01/2015 13:28

Completely addicted to this programme. Smile

Have no idea on any of the answers.

I don't get the 'sexy' ones.

They look FUCKING AWFUL!!!!!

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 27/01/2015 13:30

I bought my wedding dress at Kleinfeld's Grin

It is the most amazing shop in the world. Ever!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 27/01/2015 13:35

Annarose2014 - I think Monty had to step up a few years ago as Lori "I tell it as I see it" had to have time off for cancer treatment.
I'm laughing out loud (no really I am really laughing not just lol-ing) at your post of Mon 26-Jan-15 at 23:47:43!!!

This just looks like there was a lot of attention to the skirt and then they ran out of material for the bodice!

say yes to the dress.
DeliciousIrony · 27/01/2015 15:11

Ooh Rumpy - what was it like? Did you get one of the consultants who is featured on the show?
Was Pnina lurking around in the walls?
Did you end up picking the first dress you tried on?

Annarose2014 · 27/01/2015 15:25

Go on, admit it, you'd like to at least TRY a Pnina?

Blush I'd bloody give my right arm to try on a Pnina. The sluttier the better. Transparent mesh covered with crystals the size of your eye. With a 6 foot wide skirt made of FEATHERS!

queenoftheknight · 27/01/2015 16:13

Ha ha ha ha ha! ME TOO!

While Rairndy strokes his chin, deep in thought.

DeliciousIrony · 27/01/2015 16:28

They are certainly, er, eye-catching

boocha · 27/01/2015 16:37

Love SYTTD Atlanta. "Jack her up Monty"

queenoftheknight · 27/01/2015 16:38

I just looked on her website....Oh MY! She is getting worse! There will be NO frock left, just a naked bride for $30 000

Ha ha ha ha!

CameliousHumph · 27/01/2015 16:39

I'm so glad I'm not alone.

I'm planning a pnina for my second wedding.

Annarose2014 · 27/01/2015 16:43

Delicious Irony I think the sleeves on that one are actually a bolero.

Y'know....for modesty

Grin
SconeRhymesWithGone · 27/01/2015 16:49

Just to let y'all know, SYTTD Atlanta does go a bit OTT on the Southern aspect, but there is a definite core of authenticity about it. For just about every person on there, I can identify someone I have known who was just like that in personality and expression.

DeliciousIrony · 27/01/2015 16:52

Well, she'd be a bit chilly without sleeves Wink

MrsKranky · 27/01/2015 18:49

That's it, I'm going to have to book a day off for a full on trash TV day. Which is the best day for the most variety in wedding/dress/drama/pnina related programming? I will put my holiday request in at work tomorrow.

lauralouise8 · 27/01/2015 18:50

Love the show & live this thread. Before going on maternity leave, I thought I would be bored stiff. Then I discovered Randy & Lori.....
