Just doing the ironing and wondering if everyone irons boxers or I can get away with not ironing them hehe.

They are the loose fitting they do look slightly creased Confused

but I have to watch some paint dry instead

I once had a cat who was beautiful but very, very, stupid. If I was painting he would sit & watch with his little head following the brushstrokes.

He used to try to catch birds, but as he ran towards them he would meow with excitement....................... I miss him a lot.

"Why do so many of you regard people who like ironing/keeping a nice home/as somehow brain dead. "

Well, it is pretty brain dead as activities go.

Nothing wrong with enjoying a few brain dead activities (I'm currently making knitted leaves. DS thinks it's hilarious for me to spend hours doing something that a tree can do so much better).

But why would anyone think it was unreasonable not to do/enjoy a particular brain dead activity? "AIBU not to enjoy watching paint dry?" anyone?

I knew there would be people commenting on the op ironing her dhs clothes -only on mumsnet. I iron my dhs clothes, he irons mine. It just depends who has the free time. I don't feel oppressed if I happen to iron his stuff. I also do very little cleaning - he does most of that. I do the cooking.

Op yabu to iron underwear though!

duchesse · 25/01/2015 15:34

Iron boxer shorts? For someone else? Who is I presume perfectly capable of doing their own ironing (Ie no major disabilities)?

Are you entirely mad?

BitOutOfPractice · 25/01/2015 15:38

I've got a confession to make

I judge the arse off anyone who says "hubby"

KatoPotato · 25/01/2015 15:40

I think that's a fine judging criteria! BOKE

pinefruits · 25/01/2015 15:44

My dh sometimes fixes my car, now why can't I fix my own car.??

bozo14 · 25/01/2015 15:46

Im fairly new to mumsnet. What is the judgement of using hubby?

Just curious?

It's so nauseatingly twee. Like kiddies. Only hubster is worse. In the court of BOOP, hubster is a capital offence.

KatoPotato · 25/01/2015 15:52

Hubs and bubs!

BitOutOfPractice · 25/01/2015 15:54

KatoPotato (love the name) I shuddered to my core at that

Birdsgottafly · 25/01/2015 15:56

"Brain dead activity"

Keeping/maintaining a nice (whatever that is) home takes planning and work, unless you count being a housekeeper, cleaner, cook, etc a "brain dead" job?

It's one of those under appreciated tasks that was traditionally "Woman's Work", so therefor, you didn't need intelligence to do it, yet do many men fail to come close to doing a fraction of what it takes.

I recently ironed my Son In Laws boxers and clothes, to go on holiday. He does a lot in the family that I can't (even with a weightlifting/engineering course, I couldn't do what he does, practically speaking) so we help each other out, my DD is BF a newborn.

Birdsgottafly · 25/01/2015 15:59

""Im fairly new to mumsnet. What is the judgement of using hubby?""

You're not allowed to use your own terms of affection for the people that you are supposed to Love and Care for, nor can you share tasks equally around the family, so everyone is looked after and your whole family works as well as it can.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/01/2015 16:00

I didn't say it wasnt allowed. I said I judged.

Lweji · 25/01/2015 16:02

MN doesn't judge hubby. Some people do.
True that most people here don't use hubby, hun, bubs or hugs (well, not often). I don't, but feel free to use them and judge those who judge you for using them.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 25/01/2015 16:05

I love keeping a nice tidy and clean home. It makes me happy. I can easy go through a bottle of bleach a week.

I iron every evening to get everyone ready for the morning.

I even does DH clothes as otherwise he will just chuck his clothes on and I can stand seeing the creases.

KatoPotato · 25/01/2015 16:10

A bottle of bleach a week? Seriously? What do you even use it on? I've had the same bottle under my sink for about a year!

KatoPotato · 25/01/2015 16:12

Genuine question, maybe im using too many seperate products when bleach would do? But my house would stink like the swimming baths

Claybury · 25/01/2015 16:25

I'd rather go for a run than do ironing which is largely a waste of time and electricity unless you are really in the mood for it and have loads of spare time

dementedpixie · 25/01/2015 16:29

I only use bleach to squirt down the sink every so often so a bottle lasts ages

LuisSuarezTeeth · 25/01/2015 16:57

I had a cleaner years ago that would use a whole bottle of bleach in the 2 hours a week she cleaned. Never did work out what she did with it.

Iggi999 · 25/01/2015 18:32

Perfectly purple - you're describing a completely different situation though, with you and your dp sharing the ironing. The OP's dp has said he "can't" iron, and rather than offering to teach him this rather useful skill she is choosing to do all his ironing till the end of time.
