Just doing the ironing and wondering if everyone irons boxers or I can get away with not ironing them hehe.

They are the loose fitting they do look slightly creased Confused

I bought a new lovely iron yesterday.
But it looks like it will mostly sit there on the ironing board until the cleaning lady comes in two weeks.
It's a nice shade of blue all over. There was another one in pink. I wonder if it's a boy's/girl's thing too.

Hatespiders · 25/01/2015 11:41

WorraLiberty sorry about that! I'll send you some brain bleach! Grin

PacificDogwood · 25/01/2015 11:41

RIP Billy Sad

Lweji · 25/01/2015 11:42

Worra, you should read the whole thread about Billy. It's in Classics

Koalafications · 25/01/2015 11:44

What RJ said.

Hehe and hubby?! What is happening to MN?

Hatespiders · 25/01/2015 11:46

We find in winter that putting clothes on our radiators quite carefully results in the creases falling out as they dry.
In summer, if you hang them in certain ways on the line outside, they also lose their creases.

And we do fold all our laundry. It really doesn't need ironing.

WorraLiberty · 25/01/2015 11:48

Don't make me read the Billy thread.

I think I'd rather iron my underwear while I'm wearing it!

meglet · 25/01/2015 11:49

I haven't turned my iron on in 3yrs.

PacificDogwood · 25/01/2015 11:49

Worra, the Billy thread is disgusting and heartwarming at the same time.
And we all love MrHatespiders now Grin
Hope you don't mind, Hatespiders - you did start the thread…. Wink

MiL irons my dh's boxers when he's home for a visit. Not sure whether she goes as far as ironing her husband's y fronts won't even get into how I know my FiL wears y fronts.

Boxers do not get ironed in this house.

Lweji · 25/01/2015 11:51

My new iron can steam iron vertically for clothes that are hanging.

I mostly iron (DS's t-shirts) for social purposes, because people frown at non-ironed clothes.
I am still to find out how my mother can spot an un-ironed t-shirt with no creases.

Hatespiders · 25/01/2015 11:56

PacificDogwood of course I don't mind. Dh's leg has now healed nicely. He may go back to Africa in August, with strict instructions to get the women in his village to iron everything with their charcoal irons (a man would rather be seen dead there than doing ironing!)
Our blasted cats weed up the ironing board propped against the wall, the buggers. I had to wash the cover. Yet another reason to avoid ironing!

bozo14 · 25/01/2015 11:57

Points all taken and mentally engraved.

My husband is very good around the house I dont mind doing it. Just one of them things that needs doing.

IABVU thank you all for your responses.

If that's how you want to spend your free time, go ahead.

I've got things I like doing more than make-work, to the extent that I can't actually remember the last time I got the iron out, but each to their own.

Skatingfastonthinice · 25/01/2015 12:04

I don't get the aggro about the OP doing the ironing?
'Why isn't he ironing them himself? '
'Doing another adults ironing for them'

Would you be as sneering to my OH who does all the ironing? Hmm
Or is it part of the stereotype of Downtrodden and Oppressed Womanhod?

As Worra points out:
To the people asking why she's doing his ironing, perhaps it's part of the chores they split down the middle?

In my home, yes. We split the chores amongst us, he irons and I garden, as an example. He always irons DS's boxers, apparently it's more comfortable for the wearer. He also irons tea towels, which I've never understood.

BlueBrightBlue · 25/01/2015 12:06

YANBU, why not?, they would drive me insane is they were crumpled.
Adults are free to iron other peoples clothes even if they are capable of doing it themselves, it's called caring and sharing.
I would feel very put out if my partner only ironed their own clothes.

Ifyourawizardwhydouwearglasses · 25/01/2015 12:07

Are you for fucking real?

actually, I doubt you are

bigbluestars · 25/01/2015 12:07

I don't iron- anything. I don't own an iron.

SnotandBothered · 25/01/2015 12:08

My DH grew up in a household with a European lazy and misogynistic father and very old fashioned British mum whose purpose in life seemed to be ironing anything and everything that belonged to her H and her three DS. 'Menfolk' weren't allowed near irons, cookers, washing machines or any other domestic appliance as this was 'woman's work' Hmm and besides they'd 'only muck it up'...

He can and does iron. Better than I can. Your DH can too.

BlueBrightBlue · 25/01/2015 12:14

Skatingfastonthinice put's it over better than I can.
I'm sure the OP's husband can iron. He most like does other chores such as cooking and possibly works long hours.
I personally love ironing; dislike all other household chores though.

pinefruits · 25/01/2015 12:16

Why isn't he ironing them himself?
Haha only on mumsnet.

Slothlorian · 25/01/2015 12:19

Life is too short to iron pants ffs. Unless ironing pants makes u happy/fulfilled, don't bother and do something that interests u.
Each to their own, but ironing does not need doing.

ilovesooty · 25/01/2015 12:26

I think there's a different between dividing tasks and ironing because the other person is apparently incapable of the task.

Lweji · 25/01/2015 12:29

Actually, one of the things that was putting off about exH is that he'd wash and iron his own clothes but not think of doing it for me or DS, while I'd wash and iron (if absolutely necessary) any clothes that were hanging around.

Lweji · 25/01/2015 12:31

And I was put off by a later partner who claimed he couldn't iron because he was left handed (!). Even his friends thought this was bullshit, of his own admission. And said that his mother ironed for him, but he'd now have someone else to iron for him. Guess what, he didn't get it.
