Has "Marion" revealed what she earns and what she does to be "ethical"?

ouryve · 25/01/2015 22:23

And see - I'm not even reading right.

How does one be "ethnical"?

Hmm, let's see, among other charitable pursuits, paying a shitload of tax. That covers far more than I'll ever take out of the pot, multiple times over. You?

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 25/01/2015 22:25

We are not one unified state, and an ideal, a utopia cannot happen, in some countries it's ok to cut off a woman's labia, in some countries it's ok to chop of a felons hand, in this country it's ok to take 45% of what someone earns off them - and that's quite enough as far as I'm concerned, these people you hate who have wealth, they all employ people, thus recirculating the money, they all give to charity, but there will always be rich and poor, and arguing for a world where that doesn't happen is just an absolute waste of time

It's not right

It's been happening since the dawn of time

Even if P Diddy gave up his entire personal wealth it wouldn't save a starving child in Africa because we all know what happens in these situations, some fat general in charge of distribution of rice and water starts a lucrative racket

Where there's people there's wealth and poverty

antimatter · 25/01/2015 22:32

re:calculating wealth - I hope many remember when center of Tokyo was valued to be worth more than the entire country of Canada

I bet that valuation has changed

what I feel (have no knowledge of economics) is that the big boys, the wealthy lot has overvalued their assets
them crying their eyes that the distribution of the wealth is uneven is a story they are trying to spin up to cover something
I have no idea where this is leading
it shall be interesting because most of us are feeling the pinch, the cost of living raising etc

I'm not sure many people lock wealth away these days, there's nothing to be gained from it interest being what it is, what I see is re circulation albeit on a grander scale, but be under no illusion - they are contributing more than you ever will

Personally, I am all for wealth redistribution and would happily (well, not happily, but you get my drift Grin) pay more tax for better public services, but I have no clue how that might be achievable.
But, even as a dyed in the wool leftie, I find the OP goady

kim, I don't disagree with anything you're saying.

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 25/01/2015 22:42

Neither are real so no point even worrying about those examples

People on a million salary don't pay 10% tax in the uk, I don't care what happens in Calcutta, Timbuktu or Kansas - they can sort themselves out

GokTwo · 25/01/2015 22:49

If you feel you ought to do more OP then do more, no one is stopping you. DW and I do loads for others and are always seeking ways to help people. I'm not bragging about it, I never even mention it but don't hand wring that you ought to do more...get on and do it.

Chilicosrenegade · 25/01/2015 22:54

I look after those that love me and who I love

If we all just did that, just that, it would immediately be a better world

Peace guys

Kewcumber · 25/01/2015 22:54

Those tax rate as very misleading Kim it doesn;t for example take into account state taxes in the USA which vary enormously but I can assure you I doubt a single person on average wage in the US who pays 10% tax .

Someone on £30k in UK pays around 25% in total income taxes (income tax and social tax), in New York the tax take would be 23% ish. (Federal, state and City)

From a tax perspective you can't easily compare the tax take in federal/state et ups like the USA with those with only national systems like the UK. The USa isn;t really a country - its a pile of semi-independent states raising their own taxes.

Tinkerball · 25/01/2015 22:57

OP if you really wanted a debate then you would be here debating, rather than just a few posts.
