to think that it is not possible for someone (well, something) to disappear without a trace??

Posting here as I have no idea where else I could?? Maybe one of you can help?!

Desperately trying to find a Mr D replacement. Without him nothing is well, life cannot go on and the hell breaks loose.

It is a large jellycat puddle monkey, given to DS by daddy when born in early 2013. They have been inseparable ever since and Mr D is now in advance state of decomposition. I'm putting off washing him, as I strongly suspect that this time he will not come out of the washing machine in one piece (as a result, he is in such state that even the dog leaves the room when Mr D enters).

I cleverly bought 2 replacements at the time, but MIL managed to loose both on two separate occasions during one visit (when asked if she looked for Mr D when she realised that she lost him, she said that she could not be bothered walking all the way back to where she lost him! I searched later but he was gone:().

We tried everywhere. Jellycat, amazon, ebay, gumtree, all listed UK jellycat stockist (from the list a wonderful lady at jellycat emailed us). Gap (hubby bought him at Gap). USA- apparently there was one in a small shop in LA, but by the time I phoned them (time difference) he was gone. HK. France. We also tried to introduce other jellycat monkeys to DS, but although they all look similar, there is something about Mr D (or rather about his tail- DS uses the tail as a pacifier).

Maybe one of you has seen Mr D in a shop somewhere where we didn't manage to check, somewhere else abroad, in charity shop window or has a spare one and would be willing to sell it (or swap for one of the new bashful monkeys that sleep in the drawer). We would be forever grateful :)

I love mumsnet

Thumbwitch · 24/01/2015 09:22

I do love when things come together like this! GrinThanks

I have nothing useful on the jellycat puddle monkey, but think that's been covered anyway - just wanted to say that I bought DS1 a Hallowe'en toy cat when he was about 2, from a dollar shop. He loved it far more than any other toy, and I was so worried about him losing it that I too bought another one and stashed it away, just in case. Never needed to use it - then when I was clearing out the big cupboard, I found it - and gave it to DS2, who is now 2 as well. He also adores it! Calls it "teddycat" and takes it everywhere. It's in a plusher condition than Ds1's, but at least we have two in the house (although I fear there would be trouble if I had to ask Ds1 to give his up...)

desperatelysearchingMrD · 24/01/2015 14:13

Birnamwood- thats what I told my DH when I saw the responses from so many people- I love mumsnet too! I thought we will never find the replacement and now thanks to wonderful mumsnetters we are saved!

A big thank you to everyone and in particular to Crazylady and Chaosagain who offered a Mr D replacement for DS- words cannot express how grateful we are :)

How lovely! I hope he accepts a replacement!

Ds1 has a doudou (still goes to bed with his every night and he is 8). When he was a baby we had 2 identical ones and he used both equally happily. One was lost so we got another and again it was fine. Then suddenly one day he started rejecting one! He started calling them "right doudou" and "the other doudou" and he was completely consistent with which one he rejected so he knew something. Right Doudou got more and more tatty while Other Doudou remained in almost mint condition.

Fast forward a few years and ds2 who rejected all comforters other than boobs for the first couple of years of his life even though grandparents lavished him with wonderful choices one day picked up Other Doudou and began to take him to bed. He is now almost as tatty as Right Doudou.

Dd is an altogether more sensible child, has 2 lions, has always known there were 2 lions and takes whichever one she can find to bed with her though there was a scary period when she insisted on having both which I felt rather defeated the point of having a spare and was very unfair of he especially during those scary few days we thought we had lost it and I scoured the internet looking for a replacement.

I think you need to come back OP and let us know the outcome way over invested

desperatelysearchingMrD · 26/01/2015 15:17

Of course I will! DS sick with bacterial tonsillitis atm and I'm paranoid it is because of the smelly Mr D who is a germ factory!

Oh, poor your DS. Hope he gets better soon. Naughty, nasty, stinky Mr D! x

This looks very similar?:

longtallsally2 · 26/01/2015 16:16

Glad you have it sorted OP. You do know that you can just put the new one in the bath, or squish it about in the sink, with soap powder don't you, to get them clean. It doesn't have to have 45 minutes or whatever in a washing machine to get clean . . .!

myotherusernameisbetter · 26/01/2015 16:38

.....and if you just want to kill the germs, put it in a plastic bag in the freezer for a few hours.

myotherusernameisbetter · 26/01/2015 16:40

you can also just sponge bath them with two clothes - one soapy using plain bath soap and the other just dipped in warm water and well rung out - you rub gently with one and then rub off with the other - a small patch at a time and when he's clean and dry - freeze him - kills of dust mites etc too.

Crazylady22 · 26/01/2015 17:42

I've sent you a message OP, he's on his way Smile

desperatelysearchingMrD · 28/01/2015 21:38

New Mr D arrived with us safely and is currently being hugged tightly by DS, while the smelly one is spinning in the washing machine (in a pillow case). DS looked puzzled for a split of a second by the magical transformation of his beloved Mr D but the tail was of the exact shape and length to trick him :) I will remember the sponge bath and freezer idea for the future.

I just wanted to say that I am left absolutely speechless by everyone's response and in particular Crazylady and her DC's kindness, who simply saved us!! Thank you so much and if you are in the area, please please let me know- I owe you loads of Cake Cake Cake Cake

I so love this thread! I wish I had an appropriate monkey to send but in the absence of my own monkey.....Yay!!

Khugbug · 29/01/2015 20:53

Sos plea from me also about puddle monkey, I lost all hope then stumbled across this post, all is not lost I hope !!!
I have a 17 month old son and his comforter is ( you guessed it) puddle monkey. We know him as Charlie. Long story short he has been destroyed in a fire at grandparents house and I have been searching ever since for a replacement. He is distraught at bedtime without him and it breaks my heart. I have purchased other toys to no avail, he wants Charlie ( puddle monkey back). Is there anyone else out there that has one just sitting about, I will pay for it ???? and my son and I will be eternally grateful ??????.

momb · 29/01/2015 20:59

Khugplug: if it's a medium size that you are after have a look at the amazon france link on p1 of the thread. They still have them in stock!

Khugbug · 29/01/2015 21:13

Momb, thank you I will do that now. What a coincidence. Feeling hopeful now :)

PassTheGinBottle · 29/01/2015 21:16

What a great thread.

Khugbug · 29/01/2015 21:18

Just checked Amazon France and it works out over £30, not including delivery to uk and to top it I can't read or speak a word French!!! Thanks for link though but it's a non starter :(

Hermia103 · 05/04/2015 09:13

Just curious to see if you found one? I'm looking for a medium sized puddle monkey if anyone can help!
