to think that it is not possible for someone (well, something) to disappear without a trace??

Posting here as I have no idea where else I could?? Maybe one of you can help?!

Desperately trying to find a Mr D replacement. Without him nothing is well, life cannot go on and the hell breaks loose.

It is a large jellycat puddle monkey, given to DS by daddy when born in early 2013. They have been inseparable ever since and Mr D is now in advance state of decomposition. I'm putting off washing him, as I strongly suspect that this time he will not come out of the washing machine in one piece (as a result, he is in such state that even the dog leaves the room when Mr D enters).

I cleverly bought 2 replacements at the time, but MIL managed to loose both on two separate occasions during one visit (when asked if she looked for Mr D when she realised that she lost him, she said that she could not be bothered walking all the way back to where she lost him! I searched later but he was gone:().

We tried everywhere. Jellycat, amazon, ebay, gumtree, all listed UK jellycat stockist (from the list a wonderful lady at jellycat emailed us). Gap (hubby bought him at Gap). USA- apparently there was one in a small shop in LA, but by the time I phoned them (time difference) he was gone. HK. France. We also tried to introduce other jellycat monkeys to DS, but although they all look similar, there is something about Mr D (or rather about his tail- DS uses the tail as a pacifier).

Maybe one of you has seen Mr D in a shop somewhere where we didn't manage to check, somewhere else abroad, in charity shop window or has a spare one and would be willing to sell it (or swap for one of the new bashful monkeys that sleep in the drawer). We would be forever grateful :)

PrincessofTONGA - Haha, love the name! That thread disappeared sadly, would have loved to have known the outcome Grin

OP - have just looked on Ebay. Nothing there at the moment, but worth watching, and keep your eyes peeled in charity shops, or car-boot sales if you go.

Best of luck, my sister had a similar thing with her daughter's Winnie the Pooh toy. It came from M&S, and she used the label as a comforter. Sister had to keep cutting labels out of other M&S clothes to sew on to the Pooh toy as they wore out.

Hamper · 23/01/2015 16:43

Oh no!
I sympathise! I have a thread at the moment where a truly lovely mn'er managed to source our long lost toy and send it from the states to us so I hope the same can be done for your Mr D.

I think my son has one of these sitting in his bedroom. He is not remotely attached to it so you are welcome to it if indeed it is the right size etc....

LowLevelBlinging · 23/01/2015 17:30

I do sympathise...we lost a beloved cow thing on holiday in Spain. DS (20mth at the time) was distraught for a day or two, but he quickly replaced the object of his affections with a wolf thing.

So, I do hope you find a replacement, but also, the distress does pass if the worst happens!

Crazylady22 · 23/01/2015 17:32

Here's a picture, not sure of size??

Crazylady22 · 23/01/2015 18:16

Just measured him and he's only 14/15 inches, does this mean he's medium? Although I have to say I've never seen a bigger one and my son has ALOT of jellycats Confused

DoJo · 23/01/2015 18:39

As an alternative - could Mr D have a baby? Introduce a smaller version as Mr D's baby monkey and see if he would be content to 'look after' the baby while Mr D goes on holiday/hospital/defumigation tent? You never know what will suddenly grasp a child's imagination, so perhaps there's a sneaky way out of this. Good luck!

Suefla62 · 23/01/2015 20:48

My grandson, he 11, has a bear? (We think it was a bear, now he's a bit worse for wear), that he's had since he was a baby. It sits on his bed. For the last few years he's only been washed inside a pillowcase that's tied very tightly, so there's no other space, and on a delicate wash. As yet "George" is in one piece.

OohLaLaa · 23/01/2015 21:05

Waterstones have started stocking some jellycat toys, they might be worth a shot?

HouseAtreides · 23/01/2015 22:03

He's an old model OohLaLaa... Jellycat are annoying in that they constantly retire their toys, even the very popular ones. (I stock Jellycat in my shop).

Hedgehogs- I only saw your post some time after i posted the response- so sorry! Phoned the company which is registered in Atlanta and now emailed them about the size and whether they can ship to CA- visitors coming next week so if we could have it sent to their home address we could have new Mr D soon?!

Tyzer & wishmiplass, I just measured him and he is 13" from top of the head to the heal- so it means he is a medium monkey and DH was wrong saying he is large (I should have checked tbh). Redcrayons and Allstoppedup- great ideas, pillowcase sounds like a better way to was him that the protective bag I use for my bras. DH checking out the teddy hospital on another device. Princess- I'm hoping DS will accept a new one, he did like all of them equally (mind you, they were mot as stinky as now at the beginning). Jack- thank you for the link but sadly they are out of stock...

HedgehogsDontBite · 23/01/2015 22:19

That's fantastic. I hope it's sorted. DS has an IgglePiggle which he adores. I'd be gutted if I couldn't replace it for him (I have a secret stash).

desperatelysearchingMrD · 23/01/2015 22:22

OmG so many new posts just came up (after I posted the first response) Thank you everyone! Yes it is an older model and jellycat gets a lot of complains from parents calling and asking what happened to their DC toy!

Crazylady 22 yes it is him!!! Would you consider swapping it for another toy?? We are in London but I could easily drive anywhere or arrange a courier both ways?!

DoJo we tried that- all other monkey relatives are forgotten either in a drawer or in DS toy box- he gets really angry when we try to put anything else in his bed and he actually trows the other toys out of his cot. Only Mr D and an Ikea sausage dog are allowed in.

Iveabsolutelynofekkingideadoi · 23/01/2015 22:30

Are they the same??

desperatelysearchingMrD · 23/01/2015 22:30

LowLevel- thank you for the encouragement, I know the distress would pass eventually, but I would like to avoid it-DS had a difficult first year and although we are finally under care of fab health professionals, I feel like doing anything to make him happy.

Sue- I still have my doggy which was given to me by my father when i was 3. 30 + years later he now sits in DS room (sadly is not allowed into his bed) :)

Iveabsolutelynofekkingideadoi · 23/01/2015 22:32

Oh the link is for bashful not puddle :(

desperatelysearchingMrD · 23/01/2015 22:32

Ive- no its the newer version, we have it too but DS could not be tricked into thinking it is his Mr D.

wakeywakeyteaandcakey · 23/01/2015 22:34

I think I have the one you want sat here. I'm also in London. Pm me and I will send a photo and you can have it. I bought it for dd, but she stole my other two and has never had an interest in this. I'm rather fond of it, but if your child is distraught then they can have it.

wakeywakeyteaandcakey · 23/01/2015 22:38

Don't mind the photo, but is this it?!

steppeinginto2015 · 23/01/2015 22:39

OP - did you see saucy Jacks post? he looks identical to yours.

Iveabsolutelynofekkingideadoi · 23/01/2015 22:41

Ohhhh no :(

chaosagain · 23/01/2015 22:57

Desperately - I have a 13" one spare. It was dd's replacement one (purchased 2010 or 11)and she now barely bothers with the original. I'm in London. PM me if you'd like it or want more details ..

Crazylady22 · 24/01/2015 07:18

You are more than welcome to have it. I don't want anything for it. If you want to PM me your address I can package it up and send it to you or I can drop it at a courier collection point. Let me know.
