to love showering before bed

As a dedicated morning showerer, I'm newly converted to the delights of a pre bedtime shower. Getting into bed all fresh and clean, it's a real revelation! So do you favour AM or PM?

I love both but especially like showering or bathing then getting into fresh pj's and fresh bedding

browneyedgirl86 · 22/01/2015 20:25

I shower in the morning and bath at night, I have horses and my DP hates the smell so I've spent a lot of time with them I will shower in the morning and night. I never feel as clean after a bath!

Vickisuli · 22/01/2015 20:49

I rarely bath or shower in the evening, partly cos mostly work from home in the evening and also because I never dry my hair, and it's a bit horrid going to bed with wet hair. Also my hair is curly and if I go to bed after washing it there's no way to make it look decent without washing it again.

I don't shower every morning though - does everyone???? It seems that way but I simply don't have time, inclination or need. I shower 2-3 times a week (mostly when my hair needs washing or when I've had sex!) I also don't use deodorant at all. I started using a 'natural' one years ago, then thought, I wonder why I am bothering as I don't get sweaty armpits. So haven't used one at all for years.

I'm pretty confident I don't smell though, so maybe lots of other people are a)daily showering and b)using deodorant, unnecessarily :-)

Vickisuli · 22/01/2015 20:51

Yes Peasandlove here I am, the great unwashed. And no I REALLY don't smell!!!!! btw my kids only bath a couple of times a week too, and THEY DON'T SMELL EITHER :-)

hotcupofjoe · 22/01/2015 20:56

I like both, but cannot be arsed to dry my hair just before bedtime if it's winter.

southbucks77 · 22/01/2015 21:19

Vickisuli - I'm the same. Only shower every other day and rarely wear deodorant - I don't smell. And I teach teenagers so I'm sure they'd let me know quite quickly if I smelt. The kids only have a bath 3x a week and they don't smell either.

I only shower/bath in the evening. I hate morning showers - not enough time and then I would have to go out with wet hair. Unacceptable in this weather.

southbucks77 · 22/01/2015 21:22

Exceptions = after exercise or on hot days. Then the water bill gets a hammering!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 22/01/2015 21:22

I shower in the morning and at night, and in the summer when it is very hot a third shower when I come in from work. Hair is washed every morning (dont' get it wet in the evening).

I change our bed twice a week and the towels every other day.

Kithulu · 22/01/2015 21:36

Er....am I the only one horrified at the amount of water and energy wasted by mumsneters showering twice a day every day!!?? Bonkers. No wonder our planets resources are so fucked up.

bigbluestars · 22/01/2015 21:52

I think it is unnecessary to wash that often, it dries the skin and can lead to poor absorbtion of vitamin D from the sun. A big problem in the UK.

meglet · 22/01/2015 21:53

yanbu. I always shower in the evening. Who wants to sleep with the days sweat and dirt on them

FixItUpChappie · 22/01/2015 21:56

PM definitely but early enough in the evening that my hair can more or less dry.

browneyedgirl86 · 22/01/2015 21:57

I don't think its a waste if I shower twice a day. If I go for a run in the morning before work, I'm going to want to shower likewise if I go to the yard before work and especially after work. I would not take the risk of smelling.

MsVestibule · 22/01/2015 22:06

I shower every other day, either during the day or in the evening, never first thing in the morning. I have enough honest people in my life who would tell me if I smelt. I do understand why some people couldn't leave the house without showering (I feel that way about brushing my teeth) but I just don't feel the need.

Jackieharris · 22/01/2015 22:10

When I see shower threads on mn (which seems to be all the time) it makes me feel like an alien!

I hate showers. I'd rather go to the dentist everyday!

I honestly just don't get the appeal. I feel traumatised if I have to have one.

Hopefully I can get though the rest of my life without ever having another.

I wish their was a way to hide these threads!

Pumpkinette · 22/01/2015 22:26

Well this is odd - I was just reading an old mumsnet thread (from a few years back) on this very topic last night. (Showering frequency etc)

Anyway, I shower pm. I am not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination. I just about get through the morning routine and out the door on time. The thought of getting up an hour earlier to fit in a shower is the equivalent of torture to me - I have long curly hair that takes an eternity wash to dry.

It will be interesting to see what happens when I start my new job next week. I will be doing a 12 hour night shift for 3 days a week. So if I have a shower in the morning when I get home it will be the equivalent of a PM shower. I don't see that happening though as I suspect I will just want to fall into my bed. If I have a shower when I get up in the afternoon it will be an like a morning shower. I should have more time and be in less of a rush than I would be of a 'normal' morning so in think that would be best. Not sure though - I will need to see how it goes.

Mariegamble · 22/01/2015 22:35

Definitely an evening shower. Love getting into bed all clean, plus that's an extra 20 minutes in bed in the morning.

SASASI · 22/01/2015 22:56

I'm both, although im on maternity leave.
When I go back to work it will prob just be night time showers before work to save time in mornings.

CheerfulYank · 23/01/2015 02:30

Evening. My hair takes forever to comb through and dry and if it's very newly washed it's flat, so it looks better if I do it the night before.

I don't really wash again in the morning...rinse my face to wake up, wipe the bits with a baby wipe if I feel it's necessary. I put on all fresh clothing and new deodorant.

CheerfulYank · 23/01/2015 02:31

And also because I am not a morning person in the slightest and cannot imagine getting up early enough to get everyone dressed and shooed out the door as well as showering.

bigbluestars · 23/01/2015 06:46

I shower 5 mornings a week or so. THe other couple of mornings I do a body wash in the sink.
A sinkful of warm soapy water does my face, armpits and groin with a flannel.
A body wash in the sink is quick and takes up little hot water. THere are parts of my body that really don't need showered twice a day- my elbows, calves, upper arms, knees- they don't get swweaty or smelly.
I grew up in the 60s where there was only enough resources to take a bath once a week. We learned at a young age how to do a body wash in the sink.

ThursdayLast · 23/01/2015 07:00

PM shower for me.

I used to work in kitchens, so would smell all chip fatty and sweaty when I got home. Its a habit that's stuck.

NorahBone · 23/01/2015 09:58

Controversially I used to love a morning bath (don't have a bath now). There's something amazing about slipping straight from a warm bed into a lovely hot bath. It's like a wet and bubbly lie-in and counteracts some of the trauma of getting up.
Still making up my mind about AM/PM though.

pilates · 23/01/2015 10:13

PM

smoothieooo · 23/01/2015 10:17

Evening. Purely because DS2 has a 30 minute shower in the morning and there is usually no hot water left!

Then I have a sink wash in the morning (face, neck, pits, undercarriage)
