He's been here 2 hours already and will be here til lunchtime. I fear he may ask at any minute ... is he middle class enough, or does he count as a 'tradesman'?? Confused

Top tip: don't click on them then. There is a useful little "hide" button you can have on Active Conversations for just this purpose.

JoanHickson · 19/01/2015 11:27

Maybe they could offer a bit of pie with their Brew

wanttosqueezeyou · 19/01/2015 11:28

Hope Muddha has reassured you OP (and long may he maintain good sphincter action Muddha)

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 19/01/2015 11:28

I suppose one way to help you decide OP would be, have you offered him a coffee and was it instant or real coffee? Wink.

kitnkaboodle · 19/01/2015 12:32

He had tea but refused sugar, so that probably makes him a B1 ... phew. Just come back from walking the dog, having left him to it with a gay 'feel free to use the bathroom'. I haven't yet dared to inspect.

Btw there's a new advert that is surely directed at the toilet-obsessed MNetters ... hunky fireman testing smoke alarm asks to use loo. 'Housewife' looks horrified ... why?Confused because she fancies him?? Because he's big n hunky so his shit will be too?? Can't remember the product

babbityann · 19/01/2015 12:39

I hope he is middle class!! Ask him did he go to a Russel Group uni.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 19/01/2015 12:42

It's probably the same product where friends go round to see someone's new baby and one of them asks to use the toilet.

The new mum is relieved and relaxed because, despite having just got home from hospital with a new born, she has thought on to use the magic toilet cleaning product, so the toilet is in a visitor ready state, or maybe she didn't and is horrified, or maybe there are two adverts I can't remember.

I don't think her DH and his equal responsibility for household cleanliness, features in the advert though, so it's obviously all down to her.

Millionsmom · 19/01/2015 12:48

Well, as I spent a few hours unblocking my loo after my RICS registered surveyor DH dropped a whole forest of logs there yesterday, I'd say don't let him.

If he's handy with a plunger now, that's different.

Millionsmom · 19/01/2015 12:50

Yes, he has a BSc and a masters in law from a real University!

Just shows you, 'logs' stink wherever your are educated.

Pipbin · 19/01/2015 12:55

Hopefully he will be educated enough to be trusted with a toilet. Not like a nasty builder or delivery person.

Aeroflotgirl · 19/01/2015 13:00

Why joke thread. I know, offer him your garden, they say male wee is good for fertilising plants Wink

Topseyt · 19/01/2015 13:05

Toilets are for use by authorised personnel only. Make sure he has the correct paperwork before you let him in there.

As a minimum, he should have a degree in what a toilet is for, how it works etc. As with everything else these days, he must be able to prove that he has had the right specific training to be allowed to use it, or you may get Elf'n Safety beating a path to your door. You wouldn't want that, would you? Wink

Puddingsandpiglets · 19/01/2015 13:18

You musn't let him use the loo if there are kids upstairs, god knows what might happen

notenoughwine · 19/01/2015 13:19

I'd let him use it or you might get a surprise like my friend did.

She had workmen doing her kitchen who were traipsing through her house to use the bathroom until she made it clear she wasn't happy about it. Then she walked out the back door to put something in the bin and caught one of the guys with the little fella in his hand peeing against her house.

Gruntfuttock · 19/01/2015 13:23

Puddingsandpiglets Oh yes, I remember that thread.

Damnautocorrect · 19/01/2015 13:24

I let one use mine once he did the stinkiest smelliest shit ever, it stank the house out and he didn't wash his hands

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 19/01/2015 13:36

Are these fears of 'tradespeople' using toilets limited to men? If the surveyor was a woman, would you (even lightheartedly) be questioning her ability to use a toilet in an appropriate manner?

And, would the thought cross your mind that she might be a Mumsnetter, and is the toilet clean enough for her? What if she judges you Wink.

Anyway, I'm sure a lot of the 'fear of strange man using my toilet' wouldn't exist if you all had toilet brushes like normal people Smile.

Oh dear, I really need a shit, I wonder if she'll mind if I go, or can I hold it until lunchtime when I can pop out to McDonalds.

Damn, I really need to go, I'll just ask Mrs Mumsnetter if she minds

Oh, yes Mr Surveyor, of course you can.

Oh that's better. Then Oh no, it hasn't flushed, quick, where's the bog brush!!!!! Shock

.

ChocLover2015 · 19/01/2015 13:39

unfunny thread

treaclesoda · 19/01/2015 13:42

OnIkley no need to fear a woman using your toilet! From what I read on mumnset, all women can hold on for a week if they need to use the toilet, because it is disgusting to use any toilet except your own and anyone who isn't fortunate enough to be able to do that should be ashamed of themselves. Or something.

noitsbecky · 19/01/2015 13:51

I fucking hate people that don't let others use their toilet. Haven't you ever been bursting? It is an act of simple kindness that doesn't out you out at all.

kitnkaboodle · 19/01/2015 14:33

Notenoughwine - what the heck was he supposed to do if she'd banned him from the toilet ?? Confused

OP posts:
Ohanarama · 19/01/2015 14:45

He'll be doing his job properly if he uses the bog - that way he can report that the water was connected, water pressure sufficient, cistern in good working order etc. Doing a number one or two must be on their RICS checklist surely?

notenoughwine · 19/01/2015 14:51

Kitnkaboodle - I agree with you. I was just sharing a funny story.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 19/01/2015 15:05

Grin at the thought of surveyors saving up their number twos to test the toilet efficiency in the houses they are surveying.

You're absolutely right Treacle, I don't know what I was thinking, and I feel suitably ashamed of my unthinking use of any available toilet as and when I need it

I know I have much lower hygiene standards than the average Mumsnetter, but I only remember one occasion when I have found a toilet too dirty to contemplate and that was what turned out to be an abandonded toilet block in a park in Madrid, that was being lived in by vagrants.

It was disgusting and I was so desperate I nearly considered using it, but instead snuck into a nearby cafe to use theirs.

Pipbin · 19/01/2015 17:24

And, would the thought cross your mind that she might be a Mumsnetter, and is the toilet clean enough for her? What if she judges you

She might also have an opinion on the ownership of a toilet brush.
Make sure you don't mention how often you wash your towels.
