We keep our litter tray in our utility where the cats sleep at night.

TychosNose · 17/01/2015 12:30

In the bathroom. We have an 11 m o who likes to fish around in the loo as well as eat cat litter so kills two birds to shut the litter tray in there during the day since the cat only really uses it at night.

isseywithcats · 17/01/2015 12:54

i have two foster kittens at the moment so one litter tray in their night pen and one in the hall but i dont have any crawling babies in the house the bathroom is a good place but remember to keep the toilet lid down as one of my little darlings ended up in the loo the other day and emerged rather wet

MyAcheybreakyBones · 17/01/2015 12:58

Mine is at my front door which is accessible by another door so out of the way.
We use our kitchen door instead.

You could try an enclosed litter box, think they double as carriers but may be wrong about that.

What about a kitchen cuoboard or in the bathroom if you like but they are unsightly.

Floundering · 17/01/2015 12:59

In the porch during day where it gets used even with the fecking door wide open stinky mogs! & in the hall at night so they can get to it.

However I have to wedge the kitchen door open just a bit or the dogs will go & investigate & have a midnight snack

Mammanat222 · 17/01/2015 13:06

Bathroom. Although we've had it in kitchen whilst bathroom is being done.

DS has never had any interest in litter tray (he is older now - 26 months) but even when he started crawling and we were in old place litter tray much more accessible to him he never went near it.

thegreylady · 17/01/2015 13:24

We have a biggish sun porch down one side of the house and the litter trays live there. There is a catflap from the kitchen to the porch and one from the porch to ouside. One cat will come in to use the tray the other only uses it at night when the access to outside is blocked.

Hatespiders · 17/01/2015 14:41

Ours is in the utility room. Cat flap from kitchen (where they sleep in the warm) and cat flap to outside. Outside cat flap shut at night to stop strange marauding moggies coming in.

Fatalatomo · 17/01/2015 14:53

Bathroom.

I have one with a hood and swingdoor so it's not just an open tray.

JsOtherHalf · 17/01/2015 14:56

Combined litter tray and carrier:

In the downstairs look but I put a stair gate on the door. Stair gate came off at some point when I though DD was old enough to understand and this happened!!

emmelinelucas · 17/01/2015 15:25

Melawen - oh no Grin
I keep the tray in the downstairs loo. No children here, though

TheGMF · 17/01/2015 15:36

Cupboard under the stairs. We have a cat flap in the cupboard door for access.

DanyStormborn · 17/01/2015 15:37

One in each bathroom, when baby is crawling might fit stair gate to downstairs bathroom door-way till they learn not to eat the cat litter!

hiddenhome · 17/01/2015 15:40

Buy a covered in litter tray so that the littleun isn't so inclined to play with the litter.

We keep ours in the dining area by the back door, but it's cleaned out twice a day.

GemmaTeller · 17/01/2015 15:40

Cats have their own room the spare bedroom away from the dogs and the litter tray is in there.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 17/01/2015 15:46

Same as Gemma, spare room, although we went for years without a litter tray (big garden and lots of waste ground that the cats patrol). We have one now as an indulgence to an elderly cat that doesn't go out so much any more.

No room in tiny bathroom or kitchen for one there.

Stratter5 · 17/01/2015 15:50

Litter trays live in the top floor bathroom, with a stairgate across the doorway to stop any dogs getting in there, as the cats are also fed in there.

FrancesNiadova · 17/01/2015 15:51

By the boot rack!

Pipbin · 17/01/2015 17:12

........our utility where the cats sleep at night........

Is there something wrong with your bed? In the middle of the bed is where cats sleep at night as I understand it. That's what mine tells me anyway.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 17/01/2015 17:19

Ours was in the downstairs loo (uncovered tray) but we had a stair gate leaving the lounge so DD couldn't get to downstairs loo, kitchen or stairs.

Now we've moved and we have a covered tray in the utility area. I will put a gate on the kitchen so block access to kitchen, utility, downstairs bathroom and back door. As we will have gates on the stairs too, we'll have to train 5yo DD how to open them so she can go to the loo unassisted when the new baby arrives!

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 17/01/2015 17:40

We've got a covered one (with a catflap) and we keep it in the kitchen next to the recycling bins.

jeanswithatwist · 17/01/2015 17:46

in the bathroom opposite the loo. i keep hearing how cats are very private when it comes to 'going'. ours isn't, infact she often likes to join me and go when i am going. quite cute really :0)

Flomple · 17/01/2015 17:49

Completely depends on your house. Covered litter tray is a good idea - we take the catflap off ours so it's not hard for the cat to get in, but it's still well contained. I think I'd have left it in a room that was stairgated, eg the kitchen.

tomandizzymum · 17/01/2015 17:50

We've just got two kittens and I kept it in the utility room. But then the dog stated eating the contents Shock so I just did away with it (three weeks) and let them have free outside access. Seems to work.
