To just want a good cup of tea?

I love a good cuppa. Good strong tea (think builders tea), brewed and not much milk. Bliss.

I get so disappointed when other people make me tea and I get given some watered down milk. I like strong tea and I think friends interpret this as not much milk, when actually I like the tea bag to sit for a bit first. Obviously I drink it anyway, I'm not that rude!

Worse is in any coffee shop and the rare occasions I get a tea to take out and it's like cat's piss (probably).

So aibu to just want a nice cup of tea?

Before anyone tells me I'm way over thinking this, I'm bf DS2 and so I'm not drinking much caffeine. A nice, mug of tea is a lovely treat. And helps me get through the day with a 2 year and a 5 month old.

Any tea sympathisers out there?

Tea is the drink of gods

..... I feel your pain

museumum · 17/01/2015 11:22

Just ask to have the bag left in.

merrychristmasyafilthyanimal · 17/01/2015 11:22

YADNBU! I love a builders brew but I am rubbish at making tea. I hate it when dp is working abroad, he makes a lovely brew.

Eminybob · 17/01/2015 11:23

I totally agree! I love a good strong brew and get very disappointed when I get a watery milky cup of nothingness.
However, my brother leaves the teabag in his as he likes it mega strong, but he does it for guests and you don't realise until you get to the soggy dead mouse at the bottom. That's even worse than weak tea imo!

merrychristmasyafilthyanimal · 17/01/2015 11:23

Obviously thats not the only reason I miss dp when he is away Grin

iklboo · 17/01/2015 11:24

My friend's grandad used to make me a cup of tea that was over half milk. Even when I told him I liked it really brewed with a tiny splash of milk he did the same, just left the teabag in.

Tea for me has to be brewed, then a small amount of skimmed milk. Really deep orange, no sugar. Even DH gets it wrong sometimes & puts too much milk in. I can smell the bloody milk before I even get it to my lips for a sip. Eurgh.

mawbroon · 17/01/2015 11:25

I love tea as well, but mine is the opposite to yours.

I drink it black so it mustn't be too strong. I hate stewed tea!

Just ask your friend/coffee shop etc to leave the bag in so you can decide for yourself!

PhaedraIsMyName · 17/01/2015 11:25

Depends what you mean by "a nice cup of tea"

We are polar opposites on this. I think milk in tea is revolting and at home I only use leaf tea made in a tea pot. I don't buy tea bags so you'd be disappointed with mine- although I could add extra leaves to the pot. Don't get the issue over milk. Don't you add that yourself? You'd get a separate jug from me.

It's very disappointing in supposedly up market joints if they use tea bags.

lalamumto3 · 17/01/2015 11:27

Definitely YNBU, however you like your tea, it is one of the fine things in life.

skolastica · 17/01/2015 11:31

I'm a leaf tea and teapot kind of girl - not fancy tea, just a robust supermarket blend. I can never bring myself to drink tea when I'm out - what do they do to it? It's disgusting. I don't like coffee at all - so I never go into coffee shops or tea shops.

fruitpastille · 17/01/2015 11:36

My perfect cuppa is medium strong with generous milk and just less than half a sugar. Dh is the only other person that gets it just right. I hate tea with only a little milk.

Phaedra I was outraged to get a teabag in my pot at Betty's recently!

BTW, waitrose takeaway machine tea is absolutely revolting. First world problem!

BigcatLittlecat · 17/01/2015 11:45

Tea has to brew for at least 2 minutes WITHOUT milk in! I then throw a generous dash of milk in. I cannot cope with watery tea! When I go out to Costa etc I'm always saying milk on the side! Milk first is just wrong unless made in a teapot! I'm passionate about my tea as you can tell!

AlleyCat11 · 17/01/2015 12:13

We use a tin pot for two when brewing tea at home. Perfect every time! Except when he doesn't leave it long enough...
I absolutely hate take away tea. Always in a giant cup filled to the top with scalding water & an el cheapo tea bag.

Morloth · 17/01/2015 12:13

My DH makes the best tea. He has his own special blend and ratios and everything.

It can stand by itself and is scalding hot.

I have been know to trade see for tea. Wink

itsnotmeitsyou1 · 17/01/2015 12:17

I used to love tea, a good one needs a minimum 7 min standing time in my opinion. Since starting very early morning shifts though, coffee is my nectar. My sister is totally opposite though, I think she just shows the mug a teabag, looks like hot, watery milk. Yuk!

Beachcomber · 17/01/2015 12:21

I drink it black and find the idea of milk in tea quite repulsive. There is something about the mixture of hot and cold, milky and watery that really doesn't work for me. Does anyone know why we do it, and is it a British thing? I live in France and don't know anyone who puts milk in tea.

YANU to want a good cuppa though.

eddiemairswife · 17/01/2015 12:35

Another one here with tea leaves in a (warmed) teapot and a tea-cosy. Always have coffee when out. I can drink poor coffee but not weak tea.

CaptainAnkles · 17/01/2015 12:37

Have a lovely latte instead. Tea is the devil's own wee.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 17/01/2015 12:41

My dh makes the best cup of tea ever.

Teabag [Yorkshire] in a mug and left to brew for about three minutes then a drop of milk, a nice tanned looking colour, nothing wishy washy.

ISolemnlySwearImUptoNoGood · 17/01/2015 12:46

Shock wash your mouth out captain !!

OnlyLovers · 17/01/2015 12:52

It's SO disappointing when you look forward to a cup of tea and get given piss-water.

I only mind in cafes, when I'm paying for it, though. At work or with friends I think it's the thought that counts.

Actually, come to think of it all my colleagues and friends make a lovely cup; none of them are afraid to leave the bag in a bit.

Writerwannabe83 · 17/01/2015 12:58

I love a good strong cup of tea. My heart sinks if someone makes me one which looks like a mug of milk with a slight brown tinge but I drink it to be polite.

I like to ferociously stir the tea bag round in the water before leaving it to sit in the water for a good 2-3 minutes and then I give the tea bag a good squeeze before taking it out Smile

meglet · 17/01/2015 13:00

yanbu. I leave the teabag in for a while then I add a good slosh of milk. can't stand 'strong' tea that is actually weak tea with hardly any milk.

QuickSilverFairy · 17/01/2015 13:01

Tea is Holy and good.

meglet · 17/01/2015 13:03

I've also kept my eyes peeled at work so I know who commits the sin of milk first, then teabag and water. TBH I figured it out by taste but at least I know who to refuse tea from know.
