To just want a good cup of tea?

I love a good cuppa. Good strong tea (think builders tea), brewed and not much milk. Bliss.

I get so disappointed when other people make me tea and I get given some watered down milk. I like strong tea and I think friends interpret this as not much milk, when actually I like the tea bag to sit for a bit first. Obviously I drink it anyway, I'm not that rude!

Worse is in any coffee shop and the rare occasions I get a tea to take out and it's like cat's piss (probably).

So aibu to just want a nice cup of tea?

Before anyone tells me I'm way over thinking this, I'm bf DS2 and so I'm not drinking much caffeine. A nice, mug of tea is a lovely treat. And helps me get through the day with a 2 year and a 5 month old.

Any tea sympathisers out there?

Yes it's a British thing Beaches. I lived in Spain for a while and (it was a while ago, pre Starbucks) and they're just into coffee. We take tea bags abroad-a cuppa is so comforting.
Yes yes to chain coffee shop tea being like piss. And only offering skimmed milk. Yuck-double piss. I only buy full fat personally.

I live in Germany and live a strong cup of builder's tea, but I learnt early on to drink coffee when out as if people here offer you tea and you accept you will as often as not be offered 14 different fruit/ herb teas but no real tea - and where they do have "black" tea it's not "right" and somehow not strong enough even if you leave the bag in til it's lukewarm Sad Coffee is always good here though, so I have coffee out and about and tea is only drunk in my own home (tea bags ordered in bulk online).

It is uniquely comforting to have a good hot cup of tea in your hand - but that makes it disproportionately disappointing to get a rubbish cup of fragrant water.

Twinings/Aldi English Breakfast in a very large mug, left for 15 mins, no milk, with a very small small sugar. Just having one now with a piece of Christmas cake. Perfect.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 17/01/2015 15:38

Tea has to be hot though - isn't it getting lukewarm after 15 mins. I need to drink mine properly hot.

Salmotrutta · 17/01/2015 15:50

I love the idea of fruit teas but they never live up to expectations and I add a bit of sugar to give them some taste

ExitPursuedByABear · 17/01/2015 15:54

This is why I rarely drink tea anywhere but at home.

Although I did have a lovely pot of tea in the cafe of the Royal Geographic Society in Regent Street about 5 years ago.

dontcallnotdating · 17/01/2015 15:54

Fruit teas always smell divine, but they are always a terrible disappointment.

farmlass · 17/01/2015 15:58

The owner of the cafe we go to every week (after healthy dog walk)now puts 3 bags in my wee pot of tea cos they are not very strong!!

Salmotrutta · 17/01/2015 15:59

Maybe the BBC could do The Great British Tea Shop.

And the panel of judges could be MNers and builders

vienna1981 · 17/01/2015 16:21

OP. If you can find it I recommend Williamson's Lifeboat Tea. Otherwise Marks and Spencer Extra Strong teabags (not the one-cup - they're no good ) or the Waitrose Gold Extra Strong.

Madamecastafiore · 17/01/2015 16:24

I also feel your pain.

Lovely play place near us but they use some tea pig shit. Seriously looks and tastes like someone picked loads of leaves off of the park floor and chucked them in the pot. £3.95 a cup too!!

M&S do an extra strong teabag that is bloody lovely!

LottieMumofWilfJenkins · 17/01/2015 16:34

I used to buy Nilgiri teabags regularly from Suma. I absolutely loved it. After the tsunami they didnt sell it any more and now when i find the loose stuff it is exhorbitantly expensive! Sad

I had this in hospital last year.
I was in for a month!

I make a good lemon drizzle.

My best friend adds cold water after making a cup of tea. Cold water! It is so it is cool enough to drink. I like tea so hot it strips the lining of my throat.

Innocuoususername · 17/01/2015 16:48

Sauvignon Shock that is cause CQC investigation surely?!?

Innocuoususername · 17/01/2015 16:48

for an Investigation, doh

thegreylady · 17/01/2015 16:51

Yorkshire tea produces exactly what you want. One bag per cup, brew two minutes then squeeze and add a little milk. It is perfect.

Theveryhungrycaterpillar123 · 17/01/2015 16:55

NHS tea bags are vile, which is why we all bring our own or have a tea fund.

The older I get the more am hankering after Granny Tea

Am coming to realise (after trying EVERY so called strong tea bag on the market) that I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do loose leaf/pot/strainer

Gah

Such a FAFF

SauvignonBlanche · 17/01/2015 17:07

I should have sent it to them shouldn't I VertDeTerre? Smile
I did have my own tea bags caterpillar but the domestics, who made the tea, nearly all put the milk in, then added the tea bag! There was one who didn't, I loved it when she was on.

blackheartsgirl · 17/01/2015 17:07

My ds 15, dd1 12 and dsd 12 are excellent tea makers, shame their dad isnt though, he just wafts the tea bag through the mug and is so heavy handed with the milk bleurgh. Ive known him 10 years amd he still makes me a shit cuppa

ToysRLuv · 17/01/2015 17:10

DH is lost without "proper" tea bags. Only Twinnings will do from the limited range they have in my home country. Lipton is a swearword to him boggles

Tobyjugg · 17/01/2015 17:18

God how I agree with you. It's always better made with loose tea in a teapot - it can be left to brew for longer.

SauvignonBlanche · 17/01/2015 17:20

Some people shouldn't be allowed to make tea.
