Fresh coriander . To me, when I eat it accidentally, it tastes like nasty bitter soap.

I've got a lovely spiced Indian chicken breast with KEENOWAH quinoa for lunch from the local deli and there is coriander chopped up into millions of little bits and I can't pick it out.

On second thoughts maybe this should go into the first world problems thread.

OP posts:
Fluffyears · 14/01/2015 15:22

I can eat celery disguised in soup or when I make cottae pie but on it's own, I don't like it.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 14/01/2015 15:24

Are you 100% sure she isn't an evil MIL Limted?
Are you sure she isn't subtly undermining your cooking there...

Interesting however that something as bland as celery can be called so reviled.

Op I adore coriander I love it and most 'erbs, save sage.

hiddenhome · 14/01/2015 15:27

It's lovely.

Poor coriander, so unpopular Sad

SteveBrucesNose · 14/01/2015 15:30

Hang on, are you seriously telling me that you will eat quinoa through choice but detest fresh coriander??

It should be the other way round, clearly.

Aghaidh · 14/01/2015 15:31

If you ever go to America, be warned: they call it cilantro over there (spits out foul soapy taste).

mausmaus · 14/01/2015 15:39

yanbu
especially if it is a dish that shouts 'parsley' ;like potato salad but the green stuff is coriander instead.

limitedperiodonly · 14/01/2015 15:42

Not 100 per cent WillBeatJanuaryBlues but I'll let it go because though MIL has her moments, she's been nice and has said many lovely things about me behind my back.

All those people have reported back to me though Hmm. So she might have known they'd do that and everything she says could be a double bluff, including her praise of my cooking skills.

Faez · 14/01/2015 15:44

BAN IT! along with Lemongrass and Cardamom

LongDistanceLove · 14/01/2015 15:48

YANBU at all, awful stuff. I ordered a chicken, garlic mushroom pasta dish at a restaurant (no mention of coriander) it was covered in it, but I didn't realise as it didn't look like coriander, took a bite and it look all my strength not to throw up, it has that effect on me.

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 14/01/2015 15:49

YY to lemongrass Envy (sick, not envy!)

LollyLondon · 14/01/2015 15:50

Love it!
Basil and tarragon are vile.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/01/2015 15:50

Coriander is the herb of Satan. Fact.

drbonnieblossman · 14/01/2015 15:50

Coriander, basil, tarragon all lovely to me. The rest, nope, not my thing.

ElphabaTheGreen · 14/01/2015 15:51

I used to hate coriander, but it grew on me (not literally, you understand) so I don't know about the genetic thing.

Fascinating thing to pick up on your point about whoever first discovered it, OP, and thought it would be nice to eat - they actually didn't! The word 'coriander' is derived from the ancient Greek word 'Koris' meaning 'stinking bug'. They didn't like it either! Grin

BuzzardBird · 14/01/2015 15:53

Coriander is the best 'erb ever. Parsley is rank.

You also can't ban coriander as it saves many a bunnies life.

Bunbaker · 14/01/2015 15:57

I didn't know it was a genetic thing, but have googled it and found loads of scientific explanations about why some people thin k it tastes like soap.

I adore the taste of coriander, but get that some odd people don't like it.

Parsnip, however, is a loathsome vegetable. Fortunately I don't tend to come across it much when eating out.

BroodySince22 · 14/01/2015 16:07

Nooo I love coriander!!!!! It's amazing in a sauce with lime juice, chiliand garlic for fish! yummmm

limitedperiodonly · 14/01/2015 16:07

Chicken never goes with pasta or pizza LongDistanceLove

Stick with that rule and all will be okay in your world.

BroodySince22 · 14/01/2015 16:09

FWIW I think parsley sauce for fish is gross, has a stagnant water taste in my strange opinion LOL

LongDistanceLove · 14/01/2015 16:10

Huh of course chicken goes with pasta Confused

Coriander on the other hand belongs on nothing Grin

Madamecastafiore · 14/01/2015 16:15

Bleugh. YANBU.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 14/01/2015 16:41

YADBU
Rockett should be banned. It tastes like the smell of fox piss.

formerbabe · 14/01/2015 16:44

Chicken does not go with pasta!!

Oh and I adore coriander, if I was ever on Saturday kitchen it would be my food heaven!

AllThePrettySeahorses · 14/01/2015 17:11

Nowt wrong with coriander, although I never used to like it much. I love celery as well; on its own or in a sandwich with very, very mature cheese is best.

Devil's foods are raw pears and melon though. Pears are okay poached or in tarts/pies/crumbles with other fruit but nasty when eaten like an apple and melons taste like cheap-perfumed nothing and leave a horrible aftertaste.

Buzzard I like your rabbit! So how does coriander save their lives then?

tidytidy · 14/01/2015 17:12

I LOVE coriander. I take it out of the fridge and eat it from the bunch lol
