I think, if I've nowhere to be, 3-4pm is ok to have a cheeky glass while doing tea for DD getting in from school (she's 15).
I have a 16 month old toddler who is fantastic, but sometimes, especially if I've been up since 5, the day seems soooooo long, so a nice glass of plonk just helps things along!!
My question is, how early is TOO early?!

I am a wreck if I drink anything earlier than about 6:30pm. Daytime drinking just leaves me feeling sick. So I have given it up, much to my chagrin.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 13/01/2015 18:48

Used to be 7pm for me or just after putting dd to bed so I could truly appreciate the crispness and to be able to sit in peace!

cogitosum · 13/01/2015 18:50

I went for brunch with friends on Saturday... We met in a bar at 11.45 and they refused to serve us wine til 12 Shock

We sat counting down the minutes Grin

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/01/2015 18:50

Up to you. I don't drink unless I'm out socially and don't drink at home unless we have guests. I couldn't imagine drinking every day. Even on holiday I don't drink every day.

Mintyy · 13/01/2015 18:52

It really doesn't matter what time of day you drink, but how much you drink overall that counts - as you well know.

If you are pouring yourself a glass of wine at 3pm more than once in a very rare blue moon, I would advise trying not to do that. Alcoholism is a slippery slope etc. I'm not lecturing or being catsbum, not at all, but I have witnessed how the odd glass of wine to get through trying days with children can go very badly wrong after a while.

SilentBob · 13/01/2015 18:52

Ach it's all fine. I have a glass whenever I want. I'm a grown up.

And I'm not even adding a caveat to that.

So there.

What mintyy said. That.

HappyAgainOneDay · 13/01/2015 18:58

My brother-in-law used to have whisky as with his breakfast to start the day off. He was 60 when ......

BathshebaDarkstone · 13/01/2015 18:58

After I've picked the kids up from school. I don't want the teachers to smell alcohol on my breath! Blush

QueenofKelsingra · 13/01/2015 19:00

I tend to wait til the kids are in bed, but that's mainly so the precious wine isn't spilt by rampaging pre-schoolers! if the kids aren't home anytime after breakfast is fine by me!!

KentonArcher · 13/01/2015 19:01

But surely having one glass at 3 is better than several a few hours later? All depends on whether you stop then, or carry on drinking until bedtime!?

Why did I click on this thread, it's killing me and weakening my Dry January resolve

hestialou · 13/01/2015 19:03

Perfectly acceptable whilst cooking, regardless of time, have never watched Floyd??

Iveabsolutelynofekkingideadoi · 13/01/2015 19:06

My grandmother always made it very clear, six o'clock was cocktail hour.

HTH

Iveabsolutelynofekkingideadoi · 13/01/2015 19:08

Hestialou

My favourite Floyd was him
pissed dropping the pudding at some boarding school! Disgraceful!

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/01/2015 19:08

Do most of you drink every day? I haven't drunk alcohol since 1st January. I'm not on a dry January or anything.

Mintyy · 13/01/2015 19:08

You mean Keith Floyd who died aged 65?

SaucyJack · 13/01/2015 19:10

I used

BathshebaDarkstone · 13/01/2015 19:13

But how would you drive to a&e if one has an accident...?

(I can't drive and don't have a car dipshit) Grin

SaucyJack · 13/01/2015 19:13

I used to take the "I'm a grown-up and I'll have a drink when I want one" approach.

It gradually crept up on me until I was drinking in the mornings and taking a can of Strongbow to sit in the park with after school.

Bad times. It's a slippery slope. Don't kid yourself that because it's naice wine it's any less problem forming than Special Brew.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 13/01/2015 19:13

I've never drunk daily but was drinking more than I should've so stopped. I do often crave an ice cold glass of wine but I'm sure I can wait 29 more weeks!

MidniteScribbler · 13/01/2015 19:14

I agree with SilentBob. I'm an adult, and if I feel like a drink when cooking dinner, then I'll have one. As long as you remain within the law (such as not drink driving), does it really make a difference whether you have a glass at 12, 3, 6 or 9?

JohnCusacksWife · 13/01/2015 19:16

*phaedra, not every day no...but more days than not. A glass of wine once the kids are in bed is one of (my) life's pleasures.

Bowlersarm · 13/01/2015 19:17

Wine o'clock any time after 6 on a weekday, doing school run until then. From early afternoon on a Saturday, and noon on a Sunday., depending what's going on. Not all the time though.

And anytime from 9.00am on Christmas day......

FrancesNiadova · 13/01/2015 19:18

Wine O'clock in the Niadova household is usually about 6pm, or a bit earlier if the occasion seems reasonable.
As long as I don't think, "Ooh, that's a nice breakfast wine," I'm fine! Grin
(I do have at least 4 dry days per week btw!)
