To be sick to death of being told to not confuse terrorists with Muslims on every social media/discussion site

Erm yes... I'm not thick, I do know this. It's condescending, patronising and presumptuous. I actually think based on the lives of my Muslim neighbours and friends that there hasn't been this presumed outpouring of islamophobia and Muslims are not suffering due to the attacks in Paris at all? We, most of society can be trusted to make the distinction between terrorists and Muslims. Just sick of being lectured everytime I log onto anything!

Yes almond dear I am well known for slagging off Catholics????

Good grief the ridiculousness of your comments actually make me laugh rather than report you as I couid.

On the IQ point my son who has been talking to muslim boys at school today about all these issues says it depends on the muslim boy's intelligence as to whether they just parrot out some party line but have no ability to argue the issue or if they are brighter then they tend to be less radical and able to argue their own case and of course there are a lot of valid points about Western intervention in the Middle East which intervention I have always opposed.

One of his friends did say if women showed their ear or leg then men would rape them. Well not most Western men. Is this boy suggesting that there is something particularly evil about middle eastern origin men that they cannot control their sexual urges if they see women's arms etc? If so then surely it is men from those cultures who should be confined to the house and only let out in restrictive clothing and covered up with women guarding them rather than the women who are restrained?

I have de friended family members on fb who don't appear to recognise the difference.

Ignorant twats.

Theboodythatrocked · 14/01/2015 18:12

I have to say that regards education and intelligence that some people I knows with degrees are very racist and others who would be regarded as of low intelligence are the nicest most tolerant lot.

Sweeping aside racists as simply those who are uneducated and thick twats is very very dangerous.

You don't have to be poorly educated and/or stupid (two different things) to be racist, but it helps.

After all if you actually think about what racism means it's complete nonsense. White people aren't born liking cricket and radio 4.

Of course it muddies the waters when people confuse race with culture. A group of people who live in an area are likely to broadly share views and customs.

BackOnlyBriefly · 14/01/2015 20:03

Intelligent people have a tool that could help them see that racism is stupid, but some don't use it.

Theboodythatrocked · 14/01/2015 20:50

Intelligent and or educated people who are cruel and racist are a scary bunch.

The mixing or race/culture/religion drives me dotty too.

Coyoacan · 15/01/2015 03:31

I think the argument about intelligence is a bit wrong. I consider myself intelligent but I am also interested in these matters. Some people use their intelligence in other ways and rely on the mainstream media for their opinions, as they are not really that interested.

Unfortunately mainstream media here (Mexico) and in the UK is guaranteed to lead them astray.

No one is saying that lower IQ people are all racist. That isn't the point. The POINT is that lower IQ people are less likely to be able to think around what they are being told, and if they are being told regularly that "all Muslims are terrorists" by their propagandist organ of choice, then they aren't necessarily going to have the analytical skills to critique that view and go against it.

SOME people don't even equate the Muslim-people-they-know-personally with actual "Muslims", you know, the ones in the press that are all in favour of terrorism. They just don't make the link, because they don't have the processing facilities to do it, or if they do, they were never taught to use them properly.

Of course there are also highly educated/intelligent people who are also racist bigots etc. - but I do question why they choose to be. :(
