I stubbed my foot on a really heavy wooden bench. I'm pretty sturdy, I was moving at speed and gave it a good hard smack. The pain felled me. Sad
And do you know what can be done for broken and stubbed toes?
Fuck all.

It is easily the most painful and shocking thing ever. Fact.
Agree?

I once mopped the kitchen floor, went off to watch TV, forgot about the wet floor, and pranced back in to get something. I slipped over backwards, my head hit the floor, and I skidded along the floor until I hit the first obstacle in my way, the nearest cupboard, stubbing my toe and thumping my entire instep on the side of it. Then I screamed.

I couldn't walk without delicately limping for weeks. Grin

Have given birth three times (twice on the same day, NOT sunroof, but who's counting WinkGrin), trodden on many a lego piece, and stubbed my toes many times. The worst one being when I was a teen, went to the toilet in the middle of the night a stubbed my little toe on the wooden duck board thingy that my brother had neglected to lean against the wall. Ripped a small bit of my toe off and bled a lot.

But kidney stones tops the pain stakes for me. Awful. I remember just sobbing in the walk in centre while the nurses talked about me - funny thing was though, about 2 hours later I was fine and went back to work!

Thumbwitch · 13/01/2015 02:53

I'd go with stepping on an upturned plug or piece of lego over stubbing toe as well; although I've never broken a toe by stubbing it.
Broken one by stepping on it with the other foot while wearing wooden clogs, mind - that bloody hurt too...
Actually the worst pain I ever experienced was a nerve twitch in my back while I was sleeping - I dreamt an alien was sticking all its claws into my spine and clenching its fist around my spinal column, the pain was UNBEARABLY awfully hideous and I couldn't move either. Not sure what was going on in my back but oh god it hurt. Got similar back pain when in labour with DS1, but not quite as bad.

I once dropped a heavy saucepan lid, side downwards, on my toe and I truly thought I'd cut it off. Nail came off and the bruising lasted for months. I actually cried with the pain and I couldn't walk. It's all those nerves that make it so excruciating.

Having said that, my dad once told me the worst pain he ever endured was when they removed his catheter at the hospital. It had been in place so long, the flesh had grown around it and they gave him no anaesthetic. We're talking about an ex-Army man with terminal cancer who was once crushed by a tank. It must have been really, really bad Sad

The stories on this thread Shock

I came on to say I stubbed my little toe on my left foot three times yesterday. The third time I crumpled into a ball on the floor and howled like a werewolf. It looks really weird and misshapen now.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 13/01/2015 08:16

As a fellow trigeminal neuralgia victim, I concur that the pain is out of this world. Oh, how we laugh at the times it has reduced me to a sobbing wreck of a person all curled up tight in a foetal ball.

I do, however, off to the thread, kneeling on a lego piece Grin

CaptainJamesTKirk · 13/01/2015 08:27

I haven't read the whole thread but you are wrong. The most painful thing ever is standing in a plug! .

CaptainJamesTKirk · 13/01/2015 08:28

On a plug, not in one obviously. And after a quick glance I see some other posters are with me.

crazykat · 13/01/2015 13:22

I dropped my two inch thick wooden chopping board, edge first, on my big toe the day before my wedding. Trying to wear my stupid high heels the next day was agony, I took them off after the ceremony and only put them back on for the photos and first dance.

Paper cuts are horrible enough but a 'paper' cut from tin foil is ten times worse, especially in the web of your thumb.

YouBetterWerk · 13/01/2015 13:56

I'm with PP's about Gallstones. And I have broken three toes. Gallstones are by far, the most horrific thing I've ever had to endure. I would wake up in the night, feel like I'm having a heart attack, go white as a ghost, throw up, then spit blood, then promptly pass out, hospitalised four times before I finally could get it removed. Also, with a stubbed toe, at least you know at some point it will end, with gallstones etc you never know when the next attack is coming.
But yes, agree stubbed toes are vastly underrated!

Cringing and giggling in horror at this thread.

Apart from childbirth (because that lasts so bloody long) the worst pain I've experienced has been toe-related. Rebreaking my recently healed little toe when someone came running through a door was almost as sore as dropping a car door on my toe when I was "helping" my Dad fix his car. I was 6 or so and 1960s Triumphs have ridiculously heavy doors.

Slamming my thumb in the same door another time was fecking awful too.

it's the toenail / toe combo that is particularly evil. My toe was run over by a fucking rickshaw which also ripped off the nail.

Still, I'd take that over the angry gallbladder I'm currently waiting to have whipped out.
