to think that stubbing your toe is the most painful thing EVER?

I stubbed my foot on a really heavy wooden bench. I'm pretty sturdy, I was moving at speed and gave it a good hard smack. The pain felled me. Sad
And do you know what can be done for broken and stubbed toes?
Fuck all.

It is easily the most painful and shocking thing ever. Fact.
Agree?

I disagree. The most painful thing ever is a paper cut. And the fucker stings/itches for weeks after.

CMOTDibbler · 12/01/2015 15:46

In the ranks of 'pain caused by not actual injuries' stubbing your toe does rank highly, as does standing on lego.

For actual pain, compartment syndrome followed by CRPS (your brain misinterprets nerve signals to have touch/temperature etc as pain) has no comparison. I was blacking out, and the CRPS meant I'd really, truly have cut my own arm off when it was at its worst.

BigRedBall · 12/01/2015 15:48

a paper cut

MrsKoala · 12/01/2015 15:49

It certainly is one of the more painful of the things i have done to myself. This is a picture of my second left toe at the moment. I do it frequently because my stupid fucking feet have longer second toes than the big ones - so they catch ALL.THE.TIME. [ANGRY] and i am a clumsy fucker

Other self inflicted injuries are accidentally snorting chilli seeds and an infected/swollen burser gland in my elbow after whacking it on the bedside table. There are many many others. (i once dislocated both knees while dancing and slipping on a rogue cd) I am a walking disaster.

Oh and i have had a 3 day labour, a drip to induce contractions and a 3rd degree tear with no pain relief and the MW said she had never seen anyone with such a high pain tolerance! But this was nothing compared to the pain from minor random clumsy shit.

to think that stubbing your toe is the most painful thing EVER?
DoJo · 12/01/2015 15:50

I dropped a bottle of wine on my foot once - my relief at the fact that bottle didn't smash was unbelievably short-lived as I realised the full extent of the pain!

squoosh · 12/01/2015 15:51

That toe looks like ET's finger. Does it have special powers?

ZingTheGreat · 12/01/2015 15:52

sewing through your finger with a sewing machine (inc needle breaking as it hits the bone) is fucking painful

wishmiplass · 12/01/2015 15:53

MrsKoala They're called Morton's/Royal toes. I have them too.

daddyorchipsdaddyorchips · 12/01/2015 15:54

I once stubbed my big toe so hard, wearing flip flops, that my toe nail came off. Well, it was flapping off right down to the cuticle but still attached underneath.

There was so much blood and I nearly passed out. It was also the first night of a much anticipated dream holiday.

How's that?

MrsKoala · 12/01/2015 15:55

Yes, the special power to make me trip over and most shoes rub and mean i need a bigger size and my feet slip all over the place. it's a great gift. i could save humanity if i could just harness it properly.

DH calls it a royal big toe. I call it a royal pain in the ring piece.

weeblueberry · 12/01/2015 15:57

I remember stubbing my toe on the coffee table after giving birth and actually using hypnobirthing breathing techniques to deal with the pain. No joke.

YANBU.

farewellfigure · 12/01/2015 15:57

I once went for a wee in the night at a friend's house... an unfamiliar house in the dark is a recipe for disaster. My big toe went one side of her old-fashioned sharp cooker foot, and the next toe went the other side. That was stubbing pain combined with the sharp cooker foot removing the skin from the insides of each toe. I had to sit on her cold dark kitchen floor and rock myself to stop waking the entire household. Then I had to stuff loo roll in between the purple swollen and lacerated toes so I didn't bleed all over her sheets.

Having said that, doing my back in was probably worse in all honestly.

EthelCardew · 12/01/2015 15:58

mrskoala Ouchy! That looks incredibly painful. But I have to ask - how do you "accidentally" snort chilli seeds?! And I'd LOVE to see the dance that dislocates both knees! Grin

I'm currently experiencing an amazing amount of pain from pulling/tearing intercostal muscles through violent coughing. I've broken bones that were less painful.

MrsKoala · 12/01/2015 16:09

Ethel - i was chopping chillis (those hot little red fuckers) and got the seeds under my finger nails. I then got an itch up my right nostril and without thinking put my little finger to my nostril and accidentally breathed in. oh. the. burning. My eyes watered for 4 days.

The dance was 'interesting' from the knees up i turned one way and me from the knees down went the other. I had to go to hospital. I also tore some ligaments and smashed the cartilage. I have had 3 surgeries and screws put in my left leg to remedy it.

I am a monumental twat.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 12/01/2015 16:38

Asking a friend what contractions really felt like she said - that sharp - deep pain when stub toe just over and over and over again...she was right Shock

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 12/01/2015 16:41

ouch mrs K ouch. ( pretty toe nail though)

Sistedtwister · 12/01/2015 16:42

Your Leg Falling out of bed when you've just had a hip replacement is quite painful.... I slept on the sofa for a while after that.

I once dropped the vac on my toe and broke it. I was speechless with the pain. Then a few years later I ran over my own foot with a toilet door simultaneously removing the skin, the nail and breaking the same toe again, I was pissed though so just wrapped it in loo paper to stem the blood and had another gin Hmm

I've also dislocated my little toes so many times walloping them on random objects it no longer really phases me once the initial pain and shock has passed, I can usually relocate them myself

TagineKaput · 12/01/2015 16:48

I stubbed my toe about a year ago, it was agony. After three weeks of hobbling around I finally decided perhaps I should go to the dr, who sent me for an x-Ray and it turned out it was broken. It stopped hurting after about 6 weeks, but I still can't bend it. Hope yours isn't broken and stops hurting soon, you certainly have my sympathy as it can be very painful!

GlitzAndGigglesx · 12/01/2015 17:07

farewell my toes curled reading that! Shock

notagainffffffffs · 12/01/2015 17:12

Naaaah man. Most painful thing is having your baby 'look up' when you are 42 hours into labour, the doctor telling you you dont weigh enough for the good stuff (drugs wise) then proceedings to push the baby BACK UP so that you can have a c section.

Jackiemagazine · 12/01/2015 18:06

Ughhh I'm wincing and laughing at the same time at some of these!

But please tell me before I explode, what is a bollicle???

I googled it and found a picture of Nana Mouskouri.

No, you're all wrong. It's having a butchers block dropped on your toe VERTICALLY (narrow side down. Onto toe. From height.)

I just laid down and pressed my face into the carpet and let me body go limp. It was a near death experience.

Although ouryve's weird fingernail has made me feel horrible.

mineofuselessinformation · 12/01/2015 18:16

Having seen it for myself, I have to say the most painful thing IME has to be a doctor shoving the (very large) needle into an unanaesthetised area of a kidney....

Boysclothes · 12/01/2015 18:19

Does anyone else actually sort of like pain though?

I don't mean chronic nagging pain which is awful. But sudden, unexpected acute agony?

It sort of makes me feel a bit ecstatic in a way. But not sexual. But sort of amazing.
