To consider using raspberry ketones?

Anyone used them? I've seen a lot of propaganda saying they work but would like some 'real life' thoughts please!

I have around 5 stone to lose and its just not happening and something that supresses my appetite would be brilliant!

YABU.

they are bollocks. Seriously. I loved slimming world but my best friend has lost 6 stone the old fashioned boring way, diet and excersise. It's taken her 10 months.

Royalsighness · 12/01/2015 08:38

Well she has a PT and "eats clean" and does weights now. I can't afford a personal trainer.

thegreylady · 12/01/2015 08:42

Do not do raspberry ketones. It is an enormous scam. You sign up for a trial and they take hundreds of pounds from you. There is a fb group called Beware Nutriberry Slim or something dedicated to helping people get refunds ( I got most of my money back through cc company).

thegreylady · 12/01/2015 08:43

Oh and they dont work at all.

Ponyphysio · 12/01/2015 08:47

Have you tried 5:2 OP? It really helps you to learn what are "better value" calories, so you're not getting hungry in between meals. Also ask your GP for support, there are often weight loss support groups they can refer into.

SaucyJack · 12/01/2015 08:49

Are you on Groupon? They often have them on there for cheap. No harm in trying them.

Thing is, anything that does work tends to get banned eventually as it's usually a glorified form of speed.

CatThiefKeith · 12/01/2015 08:51

My next door neighbour lost £600 the week before Christmas by signing up to a 'free trial' and only paying for p&p.

It's bollocks, but if you must try it, get it from Holland and Barrett. It says 'can only help weight loss as part if a calorie controlled diet' which roughly translated means you do the hard work and we will take the credit.

lornathewizzard · 12/01/2015 09:00

I remember watching a BBC programme explaining it was all a scam, money gets taken after free trial etc so yes, there probably is harm in trying. There is no magic pill I'm afraid. And that's coming from someone who lost 5 and a half stone by calorie counting and exercise. It will (and should ) take time. But you can do it.

SaucyJack · 12/01/2015 09:03

If there's a particular company doing a free trial scam, then that's entirely separate to raspberry ketones in general.

You can buy them in Tesco.

fairyfuckwings · 12/01/2015 09:04

I got some from ebay (or perhaps it was amazon) so wasn't scammed. Didn't lose any weight either unfortunately! They gave me indigestion and raspberry flavoured burps.

Best weight loss for me has been the 5:2 coupled with regular swimming. I got down to my ideal weight over a year ago and it's been quite easy to maintain.

QueenofKelsingra · 12/01/2015 09:05

guess I expected that to be the answer. Sad

I know it requires hard work, I lost 3 stone for my wedding but 3 DC later and the weight has kept creeping and I now feel very unhealthy and unable to do the things I want so I know I have to change. I was just hoping for a little help to get the process going!

I'm starting 5:2 this week so will see how that goes. I like the idea of not having to count things on the normal days. last time I lost weight it was with WW but I hate the fact that 'counting' diets mean you spend all the day thinking about food - what can I eat/how many points have I got left/if I eat this can I still have that etc. which just made me more hungry!!

OP posts:
ChickenMe · 12/01/2015 09:19

No don't bother. Find something that you think you can stick to. Fasting has worked for me in the past as has low carb and genuinely listening to your stomach. The minute you are full, stop and throw the leftovers away (copyright)Grin

popcornpaws · 12/01/2015 09:20

YABU to waste money on a quick fix to boost weight loss.
You can only lose weight by eating less than you burn, if WW bores you,(and i wouldn't go to any diet clubs btw) then you need to make a decision about your lifestyle and either do it or don't.
Iam amazed at the amount of posts regarding losing weight where people expect some miracle result!
Food is fuel, don't make it into something its not, that is my mantra with exceptions of birthdays etc where i do enjoy a meal out, but i don't live for eating.

QueenofKelsingra · 12/01/2015 09:25

popcorn I don't expect 'some miracle result'. but I have battled my weight since I was a teen and have struggled to find anything that works long term that I can stick to without being depressed.

yes food is fuel, but breaking 15 years of food is comfort/food will cheer me up/food is reward/food is stress reliever is not easy.

its not about a 'quick fix' it was about a 'kick start'.

OP posts:
RojaGato · 12/01/2015 09:45

You sound more desperate than unreasonable to be honest.

If you need a kickstart, how about doing a Whole30?

guidelines here

Basically 30 days of fresh, unprocessed whole foods, no sugars/fizzy drinks/processed foods. If you don't like it, it's jsut a 30 day trial of a new way of eating. If you do like it, just keep going. Should also help with comfort eating/psychological dependence issues too, by breaking some patterns and habits.

chocoluvva · 12/01/2015 09:53

Take a supplement to help with sugar cravings - containing chromium. Cinnamon and gymnema sylvestre help with blood-sugar control. Take twenty minutes before eating a meal.

Drink green tea.

Fill up on soup and salad. Don't blend the soup - the combination of liquid and 'lumps' keeps you feeling full for longer. Barley and lentils have a low glycaemic index factor.

Swap milk chocolate for dark chocolate - I defy anyone to eat too much dark chocolate.

Try to eat slowly and you'll feel full more quickly.

Swap mayo for nice vinegar eg fruit-flavoured balsamic vinegar, cider vinegar mixed with a tiny amount of olive oil and lightly drizzle over salad leaves.

tabulahrasa · 12/01/2015 09:57

"I hate the fact that 'counting' diets mean you spend all the day thinking about food - what can I eat/how many points have I got left/if I eat this can I still have that etc. which just made me more hungry!!"

I find that too, but Slimming world works much better for me as it's mostly just eat healthy food and you're only having to weigh or count certain things.

CaptainAnkles · 12/01/2015 10:00

I bought some for a couple of pounds off ebay, they do absolutely bog all except give you raspberry flavoured burps like another poster said, but it wasn't remotely surprising and I wasn't that bothered seeing as how it didn't cost that much.

MagicMojito · 12/01/2015 10:06

Ywbvu to use them, there is a campaign to ban them after another woman died after using them. The amount of caffine they have in them is truly dangerous.I can't link but just do a quick google. There are much safer ways of loading weight. Good luck Flowers

Aherdofmims · 12/01/2015 10:06

Producing ketones when pregnant made me very ill so sounds a bad idea to me.

I have little diet advice but I tend to lose weight when v busy - ie unintentionally exercising alot and having less time to snack!

MagicMojito · 12/01/2015 10:14

Losing weight obviously Blush

PulpsNotFiction · 12/01/2015 10:37

Well good luck with 5:2. It works, it's easy and it's free. There's loads of support out there, your first fast will be hard, but just keep going and drink plenty. Don't buy calorie counted ready meals, they don't fill you up anywhere near as much as a piece of fresh chicken/fish with a mountain of veg or salad.

Make your new mantra 'I can eat it tomorrow' for whatever it is you're desperately craving on a fast day. I tend to find by the following day I'm not bothered about it anyway.

I've been doing it for 3 years and have been maintaining now for 2 of them.

Good luck.

thegreylady · 12/01/2015 10:56

I went to Slimming World and lost 2 stones up to now. It took me 6 months but it is staying off, the extra easy plan is very satisfying and not like a diet. You have rice, pasta, potatoes, lots of protein and unlimited fruit and veg. Bread and dairy are limited and you have to syn stuff like choc, wine and cake but nothing is forbidden. That works.

MarjorieMelon · 12/01/2015 11:01

I find 5:2 excellentfor maintaining a weight but not so good for losing weight. I think it makes my metabolism go into starvation mode and I plateau quite quickly. For losing weight it has to be the old fashioned way of a calorie controlled diet and there are no quick fixes.

CatThiefKeith · 12/01/2015 11:39

WW has just had a bit of an over haul. You can still follow the pro points plan if you want to, but there is another approach that they are pushing where you don't count points.

I lost 50lb, but had started to pile put some back on (bored of counting) and lost 5lb last week. Smile

Low carb works well for me, but dh is a pasta monster so I end up caving in. Sad
