Not dirty but not clean - where do they go?

Mumsnetters - does anyone here have clothes that they don't wash every time they wear them? (jeans, dresses, jumpers)

If so, do they go back in the wardrobe or do you have a designated place for them?

DH has a chair in the bedroom and literally everything he wears seems to end up there. I get annoyed because it makes the place look untidy but he insists they're not ready to be washed (jeans and jumpers, not dresses!) and have a few more wears left in them. AIBU to think they should go back in the wardrobe??

(or even worse, are we scutters because we don't wash every single item after every single wear?)

Plateofcrumbs Yes indeed, there are more clothes on the floor rather than the wardrobe, so as well as being a good cleanliness knowing system, it also saves wear and tear on the wardrobe hinges.

Cant go in the wardrobe as that is for really clean stuff. Stuff you have already worn once needs to be seperated so you know it needs washing when you take it off that night, so the chair for me.

Nanny0gg · 11/01/2015 22:10

Air them in the airing cupboard and then put them away.

Chair! Only clean clothes go in wardrobes for fear of moths... Jackets can be hung on hangers outside wardrobes and occasionally flapped, but on no account can worn things go into wardrobe. If my husband didn't agree with this policy there's no way we could have stayed together...

Fleurchamp · 11/01/2015 22:13

My system is to return worn clothes to the wardrobe but hung inside out so I know it has been worn.

Generally I will wear things twice before washing (unless they fail the sniff test) jeans much longer, usually until they go out of shape.

Another with a chair in the bedroom for worn but not ready to wash yet clothes. I drape the clothes as tidy as I can over the back of the chair. Some jackets or dresses will go on hangers and hang outside wardrobes or chest of drawers. Both DCs have built 'cubby holes' in their bedrooms, thats were their already worn clothes go.

When picking clothes to wear, I will always look in those places first. And every so often I go through all the 'already worn' clothes and chuck them all in the wash.

I just couldn't return worn clothes to the wardrobes.

If you leave jeans or dry clean only dresses in the laundry basket for long enough they self clean. Grin

Hmm.. moths are no problem for me either, but it's feasible that they are for others..

Plateofcrumbs · 12/01/2015 03:08

I had absolutely no idea this was even 'A Thing'. And I pay quite a lot of attention to what people wear and I have never noticed people wearing the same jumper/dress etc more than once in quick succession which either means a) everyone is washing all their clothes after one wear b) they have massive floordrobes or c) they've never heard of this bizarre rule either.

I am enjoying this thread immensely! I am a clean, normal person but do all sorts of things that are unacceptable in 'ocd mumsnet land'. It's great to read a normal conversation about normal families. Hooray!
